Discussion on faces, hair and costumes for women in Darktide

Stature is not the same as clothing fit? Obviously females are smaller stature, but that’s no different than what Darktide does, where women are smaller in stature but a scaled down men. It makes sense that military uniforms are not form-fitting they are mass-produced to fit as many sizes as possible.

Yea, I also don’t understand what people like Nayl are talking about. Like they are spinning narrative just so THEY can bring politics in, where nobody is talking about them.

“I want better female cosmetics cause I like looking baddass and pretty as same time in video game”

“So what you want is insert political BS straight out from Twitter mob IQ50 club!!!”

“… dude, I just want pretty video game pixels to look at…”

Seriously, people seeking problems where there are no problems just so they can have problems.

It’s classic attention seeking behavior, they have nothing to add to the conversation so they just take an opposed stance to everything so “senpai, notice me”

shrugs

As someone who engages in Politics Stuff a lot, and does believe there’s a grain of truth to some of this stuff…yeah no, the people complaining about female character models aren’t doing it because they’re GAmeRs, they’re doing it because a lot of the model work is lazy and offputting.

There is kinda a double standard in that what’s ‘rugged’ on a dude is offputting on a woman but even so…the female faces are weird. And the model stuff is practically inexcusable, it’s just transparently lazy. People aren’t asking for fanservice (except for the ones who want the Repentia models but they’re not here lol), they’re really just asking that if you get to pick out your reject/acolyte’s attributes, that they actually be supported by the rest of the game.

Maybe a language problem as English is not my mothertongue but I meant not only size but also hips, butt, thighs the seeming absence of shoulders. And especially the way they moved. (And I’m not talking about girlie cliches - they were physically fit warriors moving efficiently just like the men did - it just looked differently) I obviously can only speak of back when I served in a Gernan Panzergrenadier company - I could tell our women apart from the men even in full combat gear.

Female bodies are not just smaller male bodies.

I’m not saying they are, im saying they look like that in military uniforms by design. While there may be some hints here and there, the modern uniforms we have are supposed to be as unflattering/unisex as possible, unless you have superior proportions.

Yeah, but I don’t play fantasy game about people running in plate armors into combat with demons, tanks, mechs and lasers and plasma weapons with chain swords to simulate reality of military, cloth design etc. We have Space Marines and Ogryns so I don’t think we should worry about whats “realistic” for females/males and whats not. This is not GTA.

Let video games be video games. And let females be females, males be males. We look for idealistic avatars (at least most) in video games or for totally fictional over the top designs (Space Marines anyone? Ogryns? Mutants?). I think we have enough “average reality” outside of our windows… or basements.

Oh, sorry i wasn’t defending the obvious scaled down models, i was merely paralleling non-form fitting clothing with what military does. I think as far as neutering your character, the prison outfits hit that well, but i think once you start getting penance gear it should be more “built for you”

I’m also guilty of the dreaded political talk and very much on the side of “complaining about women not being hot enough in video games is loser behavior” but yeah it’s pretty clear that that isn’t really the discussion happening in this thread (unlike the cheesecake repentia guys, just lmao at that old thread. Horny gamers, man…)

I don’t really care about the faces looking weird, I usually actively try to make my characters look different from what I often see other people doing and I’ve found combinations of face/hair/clothes that look cool regardless of how ugly the character is, but all the points about lack of options and general laziness in implementing the character creator are valid. The more options we have, the better, pretty or not.

Something I noticed when I started playing the new Rogue Trader CRPG (good game btw) is that they give you not only a good amount of tattoos and facial augments (metal plates, wires, the iconic 40k forehead stud, etc) to choose from, you have a couple of slots available so you can combine sets of tattoos and augments to make your character look even more unique. And that’s in a CRPG where you almost never see your character close up enough to notice that kind of detail.

Oh the repenta types are here alright and I wouldn’t mind it one bit. It’s badass. I want to see some skin for both sexes if I want to be an almost butt naked priest or priestess that has absolute confidence in the emperor’s protection than I should have that option.

all current women faces are a hard smash for me

on a more serious note, we need you to buy head cosmetics
(maybe not so serious after all)

I actually like how everyone in this game looks tired and sad. Some of the faces look atractive to me even though they are considered conventinally “weird”, but that comes down to personal taste. I enjoy that some faces look bad, not in a lack of quality sort way, but in a "this person looks like they are neither morally good nor feeling good.

More conventionally atractive faces should be added to the game, as long as they were added to both genders. I think it’s cool that this game has so many “unattractive” people in it. We joke about 40k being “grimdark” to the max, and while I agree that the community sometimes goes overboard on the “everything sucks” aspect, everything in this universe does suck and I don’t think even hot looking people would stay hot for long given how grueling general life is, let alone the life our characters live.

I would like if there was more variety between body models, maybe two or three per gender. For example athletic, jacked and heavyset. But that would demand more time for modelling cosmetics and more time for making sure the rigging works with every piece of equipment and we all know how fatshark already has their hands full making sure this game doesn’t collapse in on itself.

This would be nice, but, as you say, it would be a resource drain when they’re trying to run this game as a live service thing. To add a but to that ‘but’, it would be really good for those Catachans amongst us who want to run around with rippling abdominals and buldging biceps.

you have my support, I’m all for more body types, faces, hair and more cosmetics.
I don’t get why they gender locked the facial hair to be fair, quite common on girls where I’m from.

I want players to make all sorts of wonderful freaks, abhumans and unusual creatures you’d find in the underhive or on frindge worlds.
void born, beastmen, the weird mutations navigators get like gills or claws. stuff to make some interesting rejects that exist in the deep lore.

And kark it I’ll bring it up again, seeing how the skaven brains ruined the last post.
some female ogryn options so the big brutes can extra voice and face options.

finally, cybernetic prosthetics and grisly disfigurments.

cybernetics are cosmetic skin options. all of them are paid so far though. so you have that option. sorta.

I’ll say what others don’t dare.

aye, but ones you can apply at the barber surgeon, that can appear UNDER your cosmetics.

I want people to look under my helmet and see me wearing that false skin mask over my robotic face implants like that catachan sniper in the colonal iron hand straken novel.

or cool robot hands.
