Darktide constantly crashes my discord as soon as I launch and will continue to restart and crash endlessly. I have narrowed it down to the game being the actual problem since there is no other game I own that causes this issue. This is becoming a major issue since I cannot speak to my friends unless I use in game chat or steam voice chat. Already was told by darktide devs to speak to discord so I have and discord stated to bring this up to the darktide devs so now im stuck in a loop. Clearly I will not be able to get help on this so if anyone is having this problem as well feel free to comment below if you have any possible ideas to fix this issue. I have already tried anything and everything you find for troubleshooting discord and the game on google. This has been going on since day 1 of the beta so im hoping it either resolves itself or an update fixes it.
Same exact issue, only work around I have so far is just using the browser version of discord. Not a fix but at least you can play and talk to your friends on there without it restarting. Question tho, I never had this issue back when I installed the beta on my HDD. I bought an ssd and installed the base game on there, and that’s when my discord started to restart. I wonder if that might be the case?
Weird - I use discord all the time, and never had this issue at all with the game. A couple of things you could try, if you haven’t already:
- Discord offers hardware acceleration by default, which is where the client uses your graphics card’s power to make Discord smoother. In some instances, hardware acceleration can lead to crashing and freezing, so it’s worth turning it off to see if this resolves the issue:
To do so:
- Click the cog icon in the bottom-left.
- Select Advanced from the left-hand menu.
- Toggle Hardware Acceleration off.
-
Find the .exe file for discord - called “update.exe” > right click and choose “Properties”, go to the tab “Compatibility” and check “Run this program as an administrator”.
-
Go into settings Turn off the Game Overlay
-
After using Discord for a while, its temporary data and caches may accumulate over time, making it harder for your system to access. It’s also possible that Discord’s cache got corrupted, which caused the app to crash.
To fix this, delete Discord’s cache to eliminate corrupted files:
- On your computer, open the Run Command by pressing the windows key + R.
- Search for: %APPDATA%/Discord/Cache and hit Enter to open the folder path.
- Press CTRL + A to select all the files and delete them from your system.
- It could also conflict with other software, this is especially likely if the software communicates with your microphone or camera, or if it provides an overlay.
For example, programs that have caused an issue with Discord include Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner, Steam, and Google Meet. Ordinarily, these types of programs shouldn’t cause an issue with Discord, but it’s worth closing them to test.
To do this quickly, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and highlight any program you wish to close, then click End task. Repeat this until you’re satisfied, then close Discord and relaunch it.
- Enable Legacy Mode in Discord
If Discord crashes or freezes while you’re in a voice channel, the problem could be that your hardware is incompatible with Discord’s audio subsystem. This often happens if you have an older headset or microphone. If this is the case, you should change to a different audio subsystem. To do this:
- Click the cog icon in the bottom-left.
- Select Voice & Video from the left-hand menu.
- Use the Audio Subsystem dropdown and select Legacy.
- Click Okay to quit and relaunch Discord to apply the setting.
If this makes no difference, revert to the Standard audio subsystem.
- Final solution is to completely re-install discord
Sorry for the long post, but a lot of the above have solved many issues for me personally over the time, so hope it can help you too!
Cheers!
Ahh so I found a fix. Just uninstall and reinstall the game. The steam transfer messes up a discord file for whatever reason.
I’m going to try this, having this same issue
Doesn’t the game already have built in voice chat? Why does discord have to be compatible with every game in existence? And why is it fatsharks business if discord crashes while their game is running or not?
If your app is crashing other apps, your app is f*cked and needs fixing, I don’t care if it’s a game, a voice chat or an accounting app.
I’m a developer (nothing related to gaming), if we were all to work with your mentality, the world would crash within a month.
lolol okay mr exterium… im not asking devs to work around my thinking. Ive already deleted and reinstalled discord to no difference. So thanks for providing the forum with nothing useful.
THIS WORKED! It didnt work for any previous update until I updated today but it actually worked this time. This was a big headache fixed. Thank you because I literally had given up.
You didn’t understand a single word of my post, nor who I was answering to.
