Disappointed Whale

I spent 1,622 hours and $494.59 on Darktide (including gifting it to friends). I completed 100% of the Penances. I made a popular mod for it, and taught myself video editing so I could make YouTube content for Darktide. I even bought the Wrath & Glory Darktide book, and I don’t even play that game - I just wanted more Darktide in my life. I was a dedicated fan and advocate for the game, and you managed to lose me.
Darktide was part of my daily evening ritual, and now for the first time in years it’ll drop out of my “Played in the last 2 weeks“ section on Steam.

Dear Fatshark, I understand that you want to evolve creatively and not keep making the same thing over and over again, but why are you trying to make knock-off versions of current trends (roguelikes, Helldivers) instead of playing to your strengths?
If I want something different, I’ll play a different game.
There is so much you could’ve done with the core gameplay. Make more interesting maps, add vehicle/valkyrie rides, turrets, bombardments, all kinds of interactive elements, add a daemon faction, make the adventure maps slightly randomized, better Havoc modifier (!!!), ….
You could’ve made the perfect Tide game, but instead you made Temu Helldivers, where the smart play is to avoid fights as much as possible.

I’m so disappointed with the last update, and your fanatical commitment to be as uncommunicative as possible has killed all goodwill (seriously how hard is it to post “We’re currently not working on Hive Scum cosmetics, we’ll let you know when that changes!”, but instead I get to be disappointed every store rotation again).

I’m not sure if the upcoming mechanicus class is enough to get me back. And given the pace of new content, I might not open Darktide again until 2027 if ever.

It was nice while it lasted though, I genuinely had great time, so thanks for that.

Either you’re spending your money willingly, or you’ve made a bad decision.
This is a game, not an investment; there’s ZERO guarantee that any money you put in will be “worth it.”

As a content whale, cool beans man, you do you. I’ve taken a break from this game a bunch of times for a bunch of reasons. Go relax! If the mood strikes, the game will be here.

:sob:

Ever since expeditions dropped I’ve already beaten 3 games from my steam backlog. I understand your point of view, darktide has a lot of potential because the core design is genius.

However, currently designers don’t design around what makes darktide fun for ppl who seek challenge and self improvement, they design around hype moments, aura and potential new customers, which results in power creep / feature creep so I simply have taken a break to enjoy something else and I feel so much better now.

I’m so happy devs motivated me to play something else, cruelty squad is a sacred experience and chants of sennaar is an inspired game.

Thanks for your mod.
Thanks for your post. This is exactly what I feel.

I believe that they think we play this game for the warhammer label. This is true for a part of the darktide players… and yes these guys will welcome an extraction shooter with warhammer elements, because they would not play such game without wh40k elements.
But I don’t think this is the major part of the players… and this part, doesn’t care…
I prefer playing a true extraction shooter… so I play Arc Raiders. If I was looking for a more action and less infiltration, I would play Gray zone warfare. But Arc Raiders is great as solo…
Played lot of excellent runs… like one where someone tried to kill me with a rifle… I succeeded to extract, but on floor…
Like the run where at 2 we destroyed a leaper… or the run where I have met a player that was hunt by an other one… that I surprised and killed…
Honestly, the game is great if you like action, being under pressure all the time, stressful extractions, pvp, pve and… infiltration (at higher difficulty, you should play infiltration…).

Video games as an industry have gotten too big, so now every company has “market analysts” and other pointless garbage parasites like that. They determined this is what’s popular right now, and for a live service game to remain popular it’s got to follow the trends! (It doesn’t, but the analyst is well paid so his words carry weight in the corporate structure)

As for why video games have gotten such an insanely big industry, I’m sorry to say it but

It’s exactly this kind of thing that makes the industry so bloated and huge. Not meant to be an accusation but that’s an amount of profitability you can’t get out of any other media right now, other than gambling websites which are subject to harsher laws.

Look up history of DICE. Another well known Swedish gaming studio. One can only hope Fatshark isn’t going to make DICEs mistake, and lose Tide games identity in a self-destructive chase after trends, favoured by some MBA “educated” clowns. It really didn’t work out that well for Battlefield franchise.

Laying down the truth

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

DICE, Arrowhead, FatShark, and Overkill have done irreparable damage to Swedish video game exports for my wallet.

There’s something in the sustromming.

I have almost 4 times your playtime and a fourth of the amount spent :sob:

This right here… All anybody wants is more Darktide. Less arbitrary restrictions like random modifiers and quickplay, and more agency like lobby browser and map/modifier selection.

And while novelty and meta-progression is important, there are ways to do it that don’t further compromise and divide the playerbase over modes literally no player asked for.

Want to make nightreindivers2? Publish it as a separate game at least.

Anyone remembers Creative Assembly making hero shooter named Hyenas, while the company’s whole niche was making strategy games? Everyone dunked on this terrible “edgy and punk” modern market slop with drag queens and dudes in clown masks, except for the loud minority who parroted about “da experts know better than you”. The game was cancelled after the beta, but honestly it’s gotta be money laundering at this point. Just take the money from investors and gov’t grants and make DOA game.

Been a while since I thought of this game but it’s always funny. They were ahead of their time. Truly we live in a world now where every game studio eventually just streamlines its titles to eventually become Concord

Surely one is gonna get it all right one day and just take the market by storm for years Sweden’s own Fortnite pve game

What am i thinking that will never happen
Hell helldivers was literally on track for that and they can’t help but self sabotage for an absolute insane vision of how dare casuals like the game we made.

Whoever decide to launch V2 pvp mode is definitely a genius

most ppl here wont listen, they r only interested in posts that about nerfing. u will probably be mocked for spending so much time n money on a game

Guilty as charged. I play Darktide first and foremost because it is one of, if not the most beautiful and immersive Warhammer 40K game.

However, I would not have played Darktide for 1500 hours if it wasn’t also an extremely fun co-op game.

I have about 2k hours, a 1k xp Ogryn, and have probably (somewhat ashamedly) spent a similar amount over the years as DT, like you, has been a part of my ritual. That perfect mix of incredibly fun combat, excellent gameplay loop and 40k hit a bullseye in my AuDHD dopamine receptors!

That said, I don’t feel it gives me any sort of VIP status on opinion but I do appreciate your sentiment.

I have been extremely vocal about just wanting new and interesting full sized mission maps on the main mission board for a LOOOOOOONG TIME. IMO it has been number 1 priority for well over a year but it’s been completely ignored.

I can only assume that they have had these modes in their master plan for a long time and wanted to get it all out before making new content for all the modes. The layout of the hub suggests this might be the case (IMO) So I can only pray that they now focus on new missions. Of course the absolute void of communication just frustrates and means we have to speculate.

I too have been playing less. Expeditions has been a pretty fantastic body of work they dropped out of nowhere and on paper it’s great but it needs some serious tweaks before I enjoy it again. Releasing it with those hounds has made me rage quit the entire game every game session and I am just too bored of the other missions at this stage. It’s worked wonders for my miniature painting though!

I will probably pop in less and less and see if they finally drop some new main missions. The current ones are beyond stale for those of us with thousands of hours. Tinged with irony as their last 2 full sized missions were awesome and have become some of my favs. Their mission ‘game’ was getting better then they just dropped it. I don’t count those little half (operations) missions as I just don’t find the shorter format interesting.

It’s all very frustrating and it’s beyond bizarre that they seem totally uninterested in our feedback.
