Level 30 runs: Cicatrix Maledictum, bog standard complaining, second hive city, blah blah blah
Just this Monday, helping someone at level 2 get their feet wet in Sedition: extended conversations and banter between my vet and hers, lots of grumbling about being convicts, tons of backstory
This might be influenced by less enemy spam meaning for opportunities for conversations to trigger but I heard a massive amount of unique voice lines in the space of two missions, which makes me think a lot of dialogue is locked to earlier levels or otherwise not appearing for level capped characters. Which is a shame.
100%, I’ve noticed this when playing with friends and helping them level. There’s dialogue that’s really interesting but just stops playing after leaving uprising/leveling up/having heard it once or whatever the trigger may be. It’s kinda sad.
Less downtime from constant PING - TRAPPER! - PING - SNIPER! - PING - HOUND! surely also helps kill off interesting dialogue on high difficulties though
A lot of it comes down to ability spam, any active ability triggers a voice line, which in turn interrupts any conversations that would otherwise be happenings. Can see that a lot in said high level play, even just in the standard back and forth dialogue (character says ‘Ohhh someone made X character Angry’ but said character is busy screaming ‘BEAT THEM DOWN’ so the next voice line gets interrupted, and thusly never finishes even the simple ‘acknowledgment response’ that’s supposed to happen).
This doesn’t happen in lower tier games, as your combat ability is very lightly used, on top of there being no enemies so there’s no ‘ping’ audio either. So dialgue strings tend to not get interrupted when you’re just bonking a few poxes over and over, leading to some actually interesting back and forths.
I only tend to get these in high level play in the rarefied few sections where we are in between waves but the entire team hasn’t bolted forward to the next combat zone yet, where in the characters can actually initiate and conclude these conversations, but you’re lucky if you get these like, once to maybe twice a match if it’s really slow, but more often than not something like an arrant trapper spawn or a dog running in etc etc will ‘ruin it’.
tbh, no wonder the characters don’t get to having a conversation while fighting for their lives. if you want to gaze at the architecture, or listen to banter, just play a round of sedition. it sounds rather odd anyway when my “madame protocol” psyker waffles about saint messelina’s breathtaking festivals while being shot at.
