Demotion system is the worst thing I've seen in DT

My hatred for the demotion system has reached critical mass as I turn from h40 to h19 (yeah because that makes sense!?) after failing try after try after try for 4 days due to the condition/teammate RNG.

It’s demoralising, demotivating and straight up mean.

Whatever happened to just losing a single rank? Nope…you get demoted to the highest tier you won that week regardless of your previous tier (yeah because that makes total sense).

I HATE IT.

I quit the game the millisecond I saw that I got demoted to rank 19 from 40. No urge to play whatsoever. Just feel rotten for 4 days of failed games then that. Failing the missions wouldn’t usually bother me but since it’s LITERALLY TIED TO THE SYSTEM THAT LETS YOU HOST/PLAY HIGHER TIERS (YEAH BECAUSE THAT MAKES TOTAL SENSE) then it puts way too much pressure on having to complete them.

Argh. This is probably a giant word salad and I apologise for that but I’m just so goddamn stressed and annoyed at this utter BS system that I had to come and vent.

So many of the games we got to the final area then died, so getting demoted so brutally for that is such a kick in the nuts.

EDIT: Link to a previous proposal that I believe would fix it with very little work. Proposal for a more engaging havoc advancement system

I am here also.
And I see that this game mode is toxic. Guys are angry when we loose.

Also, anyways, this is not a game mode for me. I love to play with randoms and this mode is really the contrary of this.

Usually, I also don’t care to loose. But here we have a lot of players not ready for this that play it. With the demotion system, this make every loose a frustration.
But, I guess the solution is to not play this game mode.

It creates a toxic atmosphere where no one wants to risk anything and everyone wants to point at the others for failure.

It is a sneaky engagement method.

If it was simply progress only forward, once you’re done with 40 that’s it. Get the badge.

But now they know you’re going to invest more time being pushed backwards to get over that same hill again.

Very similar to RNG crafting back in the day where you have ideal stat weapon, then you’re going backwards after bricking it with unwanted blessings/perks, then grinding mission to repeat crafting attempt. It is because you want it so much you’ll go through pains to get ideal weapon. So you’re not enjoying the journey itself. This game mode has increased tension as the stakes are higher than just a normal mission.

Forward and backwards - Forces over commitment of time and increases engagement, more time to the game and therefore more cosmetics exposure.

i.e. Extraction shooters where you can lose all your loot, MMOs where you lose XP gain on death. Mechanics that take you backwards so you pursue it all the more intensively because you’re very close to next milestone than quitting to square 1.

It starts to sound like gambling again - Only this time the gamble is what human players you’re paired with, which is outside of your control. Unless you use friends list/discord.

It’s like someone at fatshark can’t let go of this weird idea of adding barriers to actually playing the game, as if said barriers were a part of the game’s difficulty.

First not letting players craft what they want (it has been only 3 months and it seems unreal, right?), now this rolling down the hill you just came up.

It might engage people a number of times, but
it can’t do that forever. People grow tired of being fooled and just leave. It happened with RNG crafting, and it’s happening here again.

Demoting with failed attempts should be only one rank at a time, that’s the logical way of going about it.
Fatshark once more reveal how little they really care for players.

Demoting by not actually playing Havoc for weeks should be done in halves, though.

Yeah, this sucks ass, especially the demotion to the highest completed level disregarding your previous Havoc level part.

Havoc and Party Finder needs a lot of QoL and general fixes, for now it’s just a mess

It also further discourages straying from the rigid havoc meta and attempting challenge runs like duos, awful system by Fatshark

They did like always.
They want to force us to play the mode.
That’s why you get demoted if you don’t play. Why they replaced the level by the havoc rank displayed in Morningstar, why they have put penances that requires so many weeks at playing this mode to unlock them.

And that’s what I hate… I take no pleasure in this game mode, and they want to force me to play it. And the worst, for me, is the announcement that they have plans for Havoc. This game mode is obviously not for me, too much toxicity spread from the demotion system, the ranking system etc. and too much features of this mode doesn’t fit my expectations (as an example: too many builds invalidated by the conditions and the fact that the modifiers amplify that).
I just want to play… I don’t want a new job.

Last week, I have not completed an havoc mission I started. Got demoted from 31 to 20. Yesterday I tried to do one mission. Not completed any of the ones I launched. I am ill (my son have given me this as a Christmas present), but still, I was not the worst in the team. However, I have met someone upset cause we had lost (close to the end). He started to be rude toward the entire team.
I don’t like when a game pushes for this… I want a game, not a competition.

I let others have fun in this badly designed “competition”. You can be proud of your titles, but I won’t participe. I don’t say that I will never do havoc, I just say that, as it is now, this game mode is just not fun for me.

ogryn recipe to keep walloping despite having snot everywhere:

°12 hours empty stomach
°1 ibuprofen
°2 cans of energy of your chosing (monster assault doenst give me any more headache)

blends that “build in latency” feeling with “holy fkk i´m actually in the game” quite well

It feels like a half-cooked player engagement system now that grinding for RNG weapon stats and logging in hourly to check the store is a thing of the past.

Newsflash Fatshark: the hard-core players play your game because they like the your combat system and not because number go up.

The cruel irony is that havoc (the actual missions gameplay) is pretty damn fun!

But they wrapped it in this weird turd blanket of demoralising punishment that means you don’t get to enjoy the mission for fear of losing it.

As per my previous suggestion, if they make promotion instant but only ever by 1 rank at a time, and make demotion only ever 1 rank at a time and only once per week, and abolish the 3 strikes system entirely (infinite tries per week) then problem solved and we all get to have fun.

My opinion is that you should “unlock” havoc level.
Once you reached level 30, you should be able to launch any havoc mission from level 1 to 30.
If you’re achieved the level 40 havoc, then you should be able to launch a mission of any havoc level.

I don’t understand what they have against freedom. What do they fear in allowing their players some freedom in how they play their game?

If you didn’t play a demotion of 1 rank only made sense to me.

My assumption is they will have “seasons” of Havoc new modifiers and such that will make it potentially harder and so if you haven’t played darktide for a few months they want your clearance level to match it.

Well, I hope that it won’t be new conditions limited to only havoc cause I guess a lot of players won’t see that as new content…
If they think that havoc is the future of Darktide, they should tell it to us… like that I can start searching a new game.

honestly, i don´t get that rank bullsht anyways.

even as a one off, having completed “true survivor” or havoc 40, its a “life-long” bragging right anyways.

not that i have to climb the everest every week to deem myself on top of the world, so to speak.

as an gameplay incentive, why should i´ve been barred from accessing content i “unlocked” once and maybe return from a 2 week holiday trip ?

my skill didn´t atrophy while getting sunburned, why the additional hassle while still eligible to flash my “havoc forged” badge ?!?

combined with the shtshow that is party finder right now, not many 40s gonna take place out of premades in fear of demotion anyways so in terms of the up until then “random experience” :

*i grind myself to havoc 40
*enjoy a match or two with folks willing to team up
*unlock my bling bling and get a taste of the modifiers
*only to be locked out if i didnt get to play a havoc 40 last week successfully
*which is a chore in itself for they rarely pop up and even if there wasnt “rejection”
there´s only 3 places for all those applying…
(already considering making a lobby as ogryn with havoc 40 isnt a guarantee people will join
anytime soon, just so much for the “then open one team yourself”)

i´d play havocs daily if there werent this many hoops to jump through, my energy is going to get invested into gaming performance, not socialising skills.

Just to inject a counter-experience to this, so far Iv been playing only with friends and Iv gotta say, Iv been enjoying playing some Havocs. I seem to have lucked in to this as the planets aligned and my main friendgroup I play online games with have graced me, I have utterly avoided, 100%, the Havoc QP feature.

iirc FS intended this mode predominantly for pre-made teams? It seems to have missed the mark and the system that seems designed, to me, specifically to hinder QP queing, has failed. Along with being a bit of a mess its also buggy (right when FS go on hols )

It might not be intended so maybe not mean, but completely agree that its demorilising and demotivating and for me that would straight up stop me playing the gamemode AT ALL.

Once my friends move on to another game and with Havoc in its current state, I dont see me continuing to play the gamemode.
