I have approximately more than 500 hours of play, I usually play a lot of auritic maelstrom, at such high levels, things get complicated very quickly, I can deal with all types of enemies being at the limit.
And I can say with certainty that as the “Dreg Tox Bomber” currently stands, it overcomplicates situations to a completely impossible level.
Not only is it very difficult to locate in the middle of a horde to kill them since they are very inconspicuous, many times you can’t even see them, because they are 10 kilometers behind an object on the stage, throwing parabola grenades.
Their current grenades are completely OP, they cloud the field of vision, they take away your hardness too quickly, they force you to stop defending yourself and leave the place quickly if you don’t want to die, the gas lasts a long time in the place and on top of that it buffs the enemies.
If you are in a closed place, the gas spreads throughout all the rooms and takes up even more space, making it very difficult to get out since many times the enemies simply block the exit path.
There are already many enemies that restrict the areas through which you can move, but “Dreg Tox Bomber” seems to me to be far more OP and without a counter.
The “Scab Bomber” is currently well balanced, they should do something similar with the Dreg Tox Bomber, reducing the damage, time, space occupied and distance of its absurd grenades.
Of all the enemies in the game, the “Dreg Tox Bomber” at maximum levels and complicated situations, are simply completely unbeatable.
Logging in for the first time since 2018 just to comment my total disagreement here. I think the tox bomber is great. Like all specials, it is best dealt with using a pair of headphones, your ping button, and being able to left click. Seriously, anyone can write up paragraphs on why they don’t like a certain special but at the end of the day they all die the same way. I personally find the gas less annoying than fire any day of the week.
It seems that you don’t play auritic maelstrom, my complaint goes specifically to this situation, in normal game situations like condemnation the “Dreg Tox Bomber” fulfills its function correctly, the extra added difficulty of its bombs is not noticeable, I notice it.
However, in “auritic maelstrom” games, in extreme situations, I emphasize again, a “Dreg Tox Bomber” complicates situations to impossible levels. I say this from my experience, I emphasize again, in normal games that are the ones you will play, they do not represent a significant change when appearing.
I think seeing/hearing them comes with time and they are still new. For me it was like being new to the game when all dregs looked the same but now I recognise the bomber shouts and their shape.
If I could change anything I would make the gas duration shorter. The threat/difficulty is fine, the standing there waiting for gas to clear so I can move on is boring.
I pretty much exclusively play auric missions, and very frequently the auric maelstrom. I’m going to be honest- accusing me of not playing the most difficult missions when you are the one seeking to make them more forgiving by nerfing an enemy type is uniquely funny to me. If you are really struggling against tox bombers in auric maelstroms, I’m guessing you will still have major difficulty beating those missions without them.
auric maelstrom is the “normal” mode, to the point i pass on penances for there are no books to collect i.e
i sincerely couldnt remember a match that went south specifically cause of dreg bombers.
sure,i got ogryn bias, can basically bathe in the stuff, but even taking my vet for a spin they aint that high a priority say if 6 different enemy types are on the screen.
trapper>hound>bomber(scab)>flamer>mutant and then maybe the green nuisance.
everything before is a serious thread to team mobility, from disabling to area denial.
gas i thus far went through willy nilly and maybe its my good memory for maps 99%of the time i know my way through the green soup.
i wont deny people struggling with it, but honestly i never gave much thought about em. 2 beast of nurgle on screen and a third one immediately taking the place of the first one down, now THAT salts me rashuns
For me it’s not so much that it’s a super difficult enemy, it is that it’s an actively unfun enemy. Both the gas bomber and the gas condition should never have been added to the game, and have actively made the game less fun and less enjoyable.
I play Auric Maelstrom Monstrous Specialists true duos as my favored game mode (as in two slots are reserved for bots and the bots are left to die).
This is simply is not the case. Sometimes they do make things hard even nearly impossible. That’s a good thing. But if you die to them and their consequences its because you misplayed in some way, as is always the case in a tide game.
Personally, I think Tox Bombers are easier to deal with compared to normal Bombers (only if you act fast). Tox Bombers give you more time to stop them and it is easier to stop them from throwing. However, if they successfully throw a nade, it’s more annoying than fire nade for sure.
The real problem is players don’t know how to use enemies’ sight to their advantage. They always fight wherever they see enemies. If they just pull back behind a corner (out of the bomber sight), it will force the bomber to come to the to the corner to look at you and you can easier kill it at close range. Of course, it doesn’t work in all situations but it helps in many cases.
All the time people stay in front of a door and the bombers keep throwing grenades nonstop from miles away because they can see you. It’s quite annoying but I’m kinda used to it. People don’t really think.
I think it’s a pretty fair criticism to say that the tox bombers are a bit drab and don’t really stand out from the background as well as the other long range specials. Putting some glowy crap on them or their bombs could be nice.
Personally, I’m still disappointed that they don’t throw out gas mines like what happens in the twins encounter.
