Deed rework concept

Damn. This is the most rude I’ve been towards Fatshark, but having portraits, weapon schematics, deeds and skins count towards a limited inventory space is just a dumb system…

If you do challenges, including Weaves, and buy DLCs with new Weapons and Portraits, or pay for hats, you’re basically screwing yourself over.

That’s actually so ridiculous. wth

To tap in to that quote, It isn’t possible for us to boost inventories much, if at all, but what might be possible is converting items that aren’t customisable (such as hats, frames, skins) in to different buckets in the backend service, like we did for illusions.

Sure, deeds aren’t customisable from the front end, but they are “custom” items, which is why those will likely remain unchanged until a time comes where we look at the system as a whole.

When I imagine crafting deeds, I imagine it like making a sandwich. You choose your toppings, sauces, meats, and bread. Maybe you could get increased rewards for how hard the deed is. That would make me so happy.

Well I guess that’s what THIS thread is about  The only thing that makes me a little nervous is the fact that this sounds like you haven’t reviewed the mechanics yet? What makes me suspect that you use the same systems for Darktide until this point…? Don’t get me wrong, but copy pasting buggy/questionable systems and mechanics was already critizised with the release of V2 and is maybe not such a great idea with an eye on early game reviews :grimacing: and if I’m honest, i haven’t bought V1 back in the days for exactly those reviews…

One question off-topic: Does this mean the “color-picker”-project, you were talking about a while ago, is discarded? Or will it work without “customizing” a specific item?

Ohhh yes, that’s how I make my sandwiches too, a few razor blades, old socks, maybe some old dripping grease from the extractor hood and all that garnished with a few balls of drain cleaner. A good old deed-sandwish after my taste. :smirk: #umgak

Look at the system of inventory spots?
Or look at the system of deeds?

I assume inventory spots, but there can be confusion.

I’m not sure the mechanics you speak of, in terms of copy pasta between V1 and 2, but we have looked a great deal at feedback for both V1, and V2 (and played a whole bunch of other games of course) when it comes to putting together our plans down for Darktide. But that’s a whole set of dev blogs and more info to come on the way to release. :stuck_out_tongue: Windows on that side remain closed, for now!

It’s not off the table, but it’s not in main-stream development (read: it’s a hackweek project). It would be easier to implement a colour picker as the items are now, but I don’t think it would be impossible to add them to “buckets” either.

I realise I’m kind of not even on-topic, and just want to say thanks @Incandescent for the thread. I’m not sure what more I can say. I hear you. I suppose it’s close to the 10,000th thread on the subject of deed overhauls. That’s not shade on you, but on us.

No worries, just another day in the life of an unpaid amateur

that’s my line of thinking when it comes to this yeah

That’s good to hear. With “mechanics” I was just talking about the whole crafting/deeds/loot/progression stuff that is discussed in the forums all day long and is recently pretty dominant again. Regarding the bug copy pasta, i just heard that e.g. the clunky assassin movement was already persistent in V1, just things like that (as I said, I was not much into V1, because of named reasons). Anyways, I don’t want to take this thread even further off-topic aswell

Ok so here’s another thing I’ve been wondering:

should deeds have the ability to scale up to Cata 3? Currently Cata 3 in official realm is just a weave thing but I find it’s pretty neat for adding some extra spice to the regular maps for those who have premade groups and may not want to go ham on modifiers or twitch mode

I had to create an account and give this a +1 overall. Great post as always Incan. I think the improvements that would most immediately lead to new customers and retaining current ones, are in the realm of -
1. Allowing people to join from the lobby browser if they want to.
I would think normal Quickplay should only feed into normal games, but a Deed Quickplay button could be added. Or, just have the players choose from the lobby browser, like they must already do for other game types.
2. Incorporating small elements from the Weaves.
I don’t have the raw numbers and I’m not a marketing expert for long-term DLC adoption rates…however I personally feel like more copies of Winds of Magic could be sold and encourage community growth if a deed rework incorporated some of the Weave “magic.” I imagine members of the community joining or Deed Quickplay-ing into a deed where they see lightning strikes, tangling thorns, etc. and they feel motivated to giving the Winds of Magic DLC another chance/purchase. Even if people start recruiting others to join the game because of the deed rework and the DLC doesn’t end up selling more, I would think the result is a win-win for Fatshark.
3. Allowing deed customization/augmentation.
As a player and a spectator on Twitch and Youtube, this right here would be massive. I could make bite-size deeds to enjoy the game and meet new people through Quickplay, and I could also make absolutely insane deeds to play that would make for great viewing/promotion material for the game.

How I see this, is that its just other potential modifier or maybe the deeds rarity itself can affect that.
For example only red deeds can roll modifiers such as Cata 2-3.
This is also why i love the crafting as an idea because if you do not like cata 2-3 but still want to keep the red base for something else its possible to just roll something else.

Cata 3 with Harder Better Faster Stronger and The More The Merrier :ok_hand: and if you really hate yourself add some Tzeentchian Twins and most likely crash after half an hour and 3m progress :stuck_out_tongue: Ok, real talk, I like challenges, I would like to see a deed rework, but (atleast thats what I feel like) you want to make Deeds an extended version of Weaves in the “regular game” (in terms of maps and itemization). I’m not a big fan tbh. even if it sounds great first, I think it is still important not to blur the characteristics of the game modes too much. If it’s that what the majority likes, make it one mode but not 2 with 75% overlapping mechanics.

Why not givin us what we want then?. If it is close to 10000 posts about this, then working on it even if it is just a simple crafting system instead of a complete overhaul would make a lot of people happy. Darktide is around the corner and we still are without a favorable reply from the dev team. Probably a lot of players are going to switch to darktide and as a small community that would mean the death of the game, just like VT1 that is completely barren from player activity. If you’re going to kill the game why not give us a couple of months of happy memories instead of salty ones?.
To me this sounds like company bureocracy “Never adress the comunity and move onto a new game, because those poor players are going to buy them anyway”, I can almost hear a fat “shark” laughing on his chair (does EA ring any bell?)

my point of view is that Weaves should still be unique enough in terms of mechanics and playstyle that deeds shouldn’t feel anywhere close to the same even if a couple mechanics are borrowed. Cata 3 in weaves feels very different to Cata 3 in standard maps for example, just like how the lightning mechanic in twitch mode feels pretty different than the mechanic in weaves.

I respect the wish to keep weave modifiers separate, I get it. Fatshark may feel the same way about it too, who knows. My logic here though is that if there are any modifiers that any one person might dislike they can also reroll out of them so it shouldn’t be too big a deal I’d think? Obviously this would all require play testing to know for sure

Matchmaking for deeds

However, it should be possible for the host to make the game private in any time. Not like this with Quickplay Weaves, where the party is always open and the checkbox is broken. (I would play Quickplay Weaves, constantly and with pleasure with my bots, but because of this bug I suffer terribly). :broken_heart:

What we need is a lobby.
There’s nothing in the game which helps people find or orginise a deed game.

Ah yes, this forum never gives up. You never let me down. Continuously pushing for the same good ideas since launch only to watch them unload another mag into their feet.

@Fatshark
Your games are great over all but please… They don’t need that sledgehammer at the end trust me it’s ok.

You got a like just for that.
