Dear FatShark ! PLS fix alt + F4 exploit

You can be sarcastic as much as you want but although it’s not a must for a stealth zealot to be an ass, it’s the build that most enables that behavior.

The Alt+F4 is not class specific, it’s just how run-alone zealots pick themselves up and it’s mire noticeable because they make everybody mad at them.

Maybe I don’t play enough, but I have not run into more than one of those “speedrunner zealots” since coming back. The one I did run into was using an eviscerator for some reason, and got caught out by a hound that he blamed us for not marking despite being massively ahead of the group then said GG and left.

Was nothing more than blip. An idiot to be sure, but a mild inconvenience at best.

Every other knife zealot has been a joy to play with. We get minimum 680+ plasteel with one around as they grab all of the side zones that can be inconvenient to get, and half the horde is usually held off by them at some random location getting rapidly shanked when they aren’t orbiting the group.

The ones who aren’t great at it are simply mid, and we need to pick them up a few times. W/e. Never really a huge issue.

Maybe its a server region thing, or time of day.

The only complaint I’ve had about ‘knife zealots’ is that their existence seems to annoy the director and cause more jacked-up spawns.

Definitely agree. I think these issues should be fixed about joining / rejoining matches in general:

  • Bots always share the same state with leaving players and re-joiners. If the player left when down / dead, the bot will likewise spawn down / dead. If the player re-joins the game when the bot is either down / dead, that re-joiner will likewise be down / dead.
  • As long as there is no choice over joining ongoing missions, those who join an ongoing game for the first time should be given a minimum of 25% hp, full toughness, a fully loaded magazine in their weapon, and a grace period of 5 seconds of total immunity and being able to pass through enemies. Any action other than moving would cancel this effect. This is to avoid scenarios where you spend minutes loading in only to spawn in with 1hp the middle of flames or 0.01s away from being mauled by 5 crushers around you where you just instantly die when you did nothing wrong and would never ever have positioned yourself so horribly. 5s would be enough to get your bearings, reposition, and actually get a fair chance.

Some people have requested a toggle to not join ongoing missions at all. While I understand that, I think it’s problematic because it’s for the benefit of everyone that leavers and bots are replaced asap. So if this toggle should ever be added, they should at least provide meaningful rewards to those who do join ongoing games regardless of the outcome.

And for that matter, joining a game to be met with a defeat screen seriously needs to go. If the game was lost before you loaded in, then at least give us an option between instantly requeueing for a similar mission (QP or that specific mission respectively), or returning and loading in directly to the Mission board in Mourningstar. Wasting our time with 2 extra reload screens with the added 1 minute pointless delay of that defeat screen is completely uncalled for and extremely annoying.

Can agree.

Another suggestion has been to try an implement what L4D did to new players joining an ongoing mission, which is to allow spectating of the bot to get a grasp of where the mission is and how everything stands. This way the player can “find their bearings” before having to act.

Well, consider yourself lucky and statistical anomaly.
The stealth+knife+loner+dagger zealot is a meme for a reason, there’s a big chance they will run off and not be helpful, all the while trigger stuff far ahead and causing cascade failures.
For some reason it attracts a certain type of player, and ALT-F4 is just another tool in the box that some of them use for some good ol’ fashioned LEEEROOOOY JEEENKINSing.
Fun for them, a real drag for the rest of the team.

Yep, they trip the anti-speedrunning/anti-alone spawns.

I believe I’ve jinxed myself. I’ve run into a couple since making the post now.

I can see the annoyance. They’re essentially a stim pack to the AI director’s spawn rate. Worse than a bot.

To be fair though it is pretty fun.

It’s fun when your entire team is doing it, like working together for the speedrun penance that is now (rightfully) redacted and restricted.

“It’s fun when everyone is on the same page” describes every coop game ever. I do wish games had ways to let like-minded people to play together instead of mashing everyone into the same place so they can see eachother’s store cosmetics.

I worded my most previous post poorly. Meant it’s fun to fight the additional spawns.

But yes there is in my mind an unspoken social contract to not purposefully make things more difficult for other people (especially strangers) just for your own gain, or enjoyment.

Not necessarily just in game either. Not everyone bothers to give a sh*t or have learned how, but I’d like to think most do.

Happens a lot when one of the teammembers strays too far while collecting Plasteel, too.

Essentially, the moment you get the “Come back here” dialogue, the AI director starts spawning disablers like crazy.

Payday 2 had an elegant solution to this. You could mark a lobby as loud silent and players could filter by it.
Same could be applied here with “rush” and “thorough” playthroughs.
Maybe have two different queing lines for it when Matchmaking

Put it is feedback, they don’t read the discussions nearly as much as feedback and bug reports.

I’m torn on this issue cause like DC/crash protection is great and I’d rather it was there for legitimate uses and has some abuse cases than not existing.

On the other hand using it to cheat death absolutely is scummy and one of the lamest ways I can think of to play the game. I don’t care how unfair you think your death was your team clutches it or you lose, that’s half the thrill of these games, coming back from the brink of a wipe. This exploit really kneecaps the possibility for those moments.

Here’s the thing, if Fatshark tries to enforce a way to prevent it it will for sure be a monkey’s paw and we’ll likely end up with worse crash/DC prevention.

Like QQ abuse I think this is a case where we really just need to be better as a community and exert pressure on players that abuse things like this ourselves. If somebody DCs and reconnects suspiciously after getting downed we kick them. Announce at the start of the game alt F4ers get kicked. I doubt it will actually happen but I do think it’s possible to create a strong enough culture in game that we don’t need FS putting in counter measures.

I agree with this. However in my experience it has been used to “fix” a run either through a crash or geometry bs far more often than abusing it. I think I’ve only seen it happen once or twice so at least in my region it doesn’t appear to be a big issue.

I am dumb what is QQ abuse

It can definitely happen, but I’m not sure if Darktide is capable of it. If I see it happen in game I’ll try to call them out and kick them however.

I’m with you…but but “BUt I’tS a PVe GaME !!111” is what you’ll hear, here and more on Reddit ofc…
I JUST had someone do this again, and he denied it when he rejoined a couple of mins later, the irony is the bot was better. I’ve asked numerous times and half the time they don’t reply, usually it’s “I crashed”. Funny how ALL the crashes coincide with going down now.

Macros to spam light 1 then double weapon swap (hence “QQ”) to basically loop light 1 at light speeds. Effectiveness is weapon dependent but it can be pretty dumb while also looking immersion breakingly stupid.

You see the first attack only mod controversy a while back?

Ah yup I remember. Illisi lawnmower has to be to date one of the stupidest, worst looking things I’ve seen happen in this game.

In terms of weapon exploits does it look as silly as Chivalry’s winding twirling weapon exploit?

I don’t know what that looks like but in the Illisi it was basically looked like a robot rapidly flailing their arm up and down and enemies would just be eviscerated.
