Post-Penance patch and there's a clear Alt-F4 culture

I’m not one to be overly dramatic on the forums. I’ve weathered a lot, as many have, and I’ve stuck by. Truly, I waited out this last patch (playing Horizon) and haven’t played in a month as I didn’t fancy it.

I came back for a first game today, tier 4 pub game … ease myself back in. It was the outdoor train yard mission - surely one of the easiest - with levels 34, 74, 94, and me, and it was like playing with a KPop group (or the Sugababes if you’re British).

Every time one of these players even hit the ground, they left. And a player in the group hit the ground frequently it turns out… then quit. “Bot” could well have 2nd scored, it they too didn’t get swapped out.

I don’t want to sound like an old grump, but when chasing (let’s face it, clearly undeserved) achievements just gimps the game, you’ve gotta look at what you’ve done and revise it. @ Fat Shark, the alt-f4 thing has to be resolved. There’s posts for having it (I’ve made some), and against it, but you gotta get that 20 year old “bot take over” function in, and kill off Alt-F4 as a universal medkit.

People have always been doing this.

People are more likely to die, if the group is bad.
People who have died, are more likely to quitor alt+f4, if the group is bad.

A new update brings a lot of more casual players back to the game, so it is to be expected, that there is a temporary increase in low skill players after the update.

More bad players means more bad teams, and more players who die.

People quitting out a lot, or abusing alt+f4, can be explained by that.

Alt+f4 has a butterfly effect of just making lobbies worse in the game. Players are unable to overcome (or even identify) situations they find themselves in, for the sake of finishing the mission! They say… I’ve had a few unpopular takes on solutions so I won’t offer any. (Aside from my friends and I won’t play until this is addressed ((along with the long laundry list of other issues)) and will actively tell people to not buy)

I agree.

sorry, fatshark can’t give the players any sense of fair play. parenting issue, to be honest. it’s the way it is to not punish people who have unrelated connection issues (because certainly the problem’s totally unrelated and not the matchmaking system pissing itself again) or make the team suddenly be short a body for someone ragequitting.

This has been happening since way before the penances.

And the only penances that “benefit” from alt-F4ing are the 5 Auric-level penances that require not going down at all (2 of them) or no one on the team dying (the other 3).

Why would someone abandon a warmed-up mission where they’re trying to do any of the other penances – like blowing up barrels or throwing smoke grenades or proc’ing Lucky Bullet or whatever – when getting another mission requires several steps and at least a couple of wasted minutes?

EDIT: the other side of the alt-F4’ing situation is the players who abuse it to insta-res, and I do agree that that is a problem that requires a Fatshark fix, although it doesn’t seem any more prevalent post-penances.

I get it, but I honestly couldn’t care less. It’s an in-game achievement, not a PhD. If someone wants to cheese it, then well we aren’t the same for sure, but its on Fatshark that this is possible in the first place.

Worse than ragequitters is the fact that the penances encourage highly selfish, game-throwing play for optimal progression. I was wondering how my friend managed to do a couple of the most difficult penances so quickly a few days ago and the answer was actually really simple. They simply ceased to care whether games were won or lost, left people to die, ran off solo while everyone else was fighting hordes, etc.

Yeah there’s been some debate over whether or not the “Loner” talent actively encourages players to abandon their team, but a penance that tells you to get an enormous amount of kills while out of coherency definitely does.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, make Loner not an Aura. Give the Deathcultist side of the Zealot an aura that does literally anything else, please. +10% Faster Dodge Recovery. +10% Dodge Distance. +10% Faster Stamina Recover. +25% Faster Stun Recovery. 10% Faster Sprint Speed. ANYTHING.

Yes, that’s a good point. After a longer period of reflection, the issue is likely an influx of returning players rather than the penances per se.

I don’t feel I saw people tapping out when playing T5+ and Aurics very often at all prior to this last patch. I’m sure it happened some times, but many a time someone would be getting picked up, or be patient enough to be rescued.

That game yesterday though; just no continuity to it. One second an Ogryn, the next a shield Psyker, then a 2nd zealot. Admittedly just one game, so I’ll have to try another. It’s just… stuck with me how bitty it was.
