Crafting Rework

i know its a topic many are exited about, and indeed it can’t be much worse
but lets be real here, it wouldn’t surprise me if its gonna be a train-wreck at first

every time FS has done anything similar (V2 release talents/weapons, V2 re-balance, chaoswastes, Darktide weapons/talents,)
it ended up utterly unpolished.

what i mean with that, if the crafting overhaul adresses anything more than acquisition of gear, we should probably expect large parts of new features:

  • not doing anything
  • do different things than described
  • cause old bugs to reappear
  • be poorly balanced

and mostly likely take many months afterwards to even implement everything correctly

im not saying its bad and they shouldn’t do it, but people get exited about it like if the day comes everything will suddenly be sunshine…

Ah, I see you are familiar with the Fatshark way of doing things

My expectations are already rock bottom. I will be pleasantly surprised if every feature actually works and doesn’t introduce obscene bugs or somehow obliterate the inventories of everyone involved.

All they have to do to win over the vast majority of us (in regards to Crafting) would be to simply remove the locks. I’m seldom happy to continue farming Blessings as long as I can pair them with the Perks that I want.

If they REALLY want my approval? I would tell them to go for Red Weapons, base Weapon Stats (increasing per Character Level, reaching all 80% by Level 30) and lower Plasteel prices. I would never complain again.

Edit: I forgot to mention one of my pet peeves, but I added it in!

TBH I think we might get both.

There’s no reason the maximum stat for a weapon is 80% unless they havent yet implememted a system by which we obtain the other 20%. On top of that, Arrowhead’s relative generosity and value by comparison is currently making FS look like they’re all wearing clown shoes.

They’re gonna break locks and implement the unfinished part of the crafting system, or at least what parts of them they’ll be allowed to implement considering they likely had to scrap monetization plans (like the datamined boosts) which were tied to it.

If they DO NOT do those things, we will know for a fact that they are fools. Those changes would be so simple to make…

The problem with going over that 80% at this point is that the weapons are balanced around that 80%, so i kinda doubt they will introduce weapons with the remaining extra 20% as it would most likely require re-balancing a ton of different aspects of the game.

It just does not seem logical to create another problem that needs time and resources to be re-balanced when the game has more pressing issues

Also, why in the world spend more time trying to create another work around for an RNG system the devs themselves added to the game when just removing the locks would be the most straight forward and easiest way to deal with the issue?
Player retention? Stubborn design intent?

I dont know, they have kept dragging their feet on this issue to a point where it feels like its gonna be to little to late.

they’ve introduced a new highest difficulty to V2, doesn’t seem impossible in DT to have a new benchmark for gear accompanied by a new difficulty

I was gonna write this whole thing about how they could implement red weapons by adding new aspects to the game and what not in my last post, but i cant be bothered putting in the effort at this point.

Level 6… “Exterminatus” difficulty or something.

I was excited at first when the announcement came. Now, I’m trying to temper expectations. Any change to the crafting and other parts of the game, is probably going to be for the better.

Though my heart yearns for perfect items (AKA Reds). But, I don’t think we’re getting reds. At best, they’re removing the locks. Catfish even indicated “save your broken items”. Which is fine and all, but it ain’t red. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Haven’t been to VT2 in years but I hardly think that’s a fair assessment of Darktide at least.

All major patches have brought their problems yes, and some of those took way too long to fix. But even despite that, they added & fixed way more than they broke. I haven’t seen a single even close to net negative content & rework update for Darktide thus far.

Even the Oct 3:rd rework & console release with all its broken OP Void, infinite smite, EP surge etc. issues still added so much that it was worth it overall. Most of those problems were fixed within a few weeks each. The only critical issue so far were the broken specialists introduced on the same patch. While the “spawns out of thin air on top of you” bs was fixed within a month or so, the soundless specialists took 4-5 months to address at all, and still haven’t been completely fixed. That I admit very nearly made me quit.

But overall I have little doubt the new stuff will be any different. We’ll get new issues, some of them will take too long to fix, but overall it will be worth it and breathe some much needed fresh air and new ways to have fun into the game.

Me too, but let’s see. At the very least, i’m hoping “better”.

That said, if all they do is remove the locks I think they’ll get a lot of positive lip service and then we’re all gonna leave again. Lock removal would have been good enough after the first “The itemization is totally finished this time, you guys!” after the first Christmas break, nevermind the 2nd time when they were like “We’ve listened to community feedback! Itemization is totally finished this time, you guys!” and allowed us to choose what color of handcuffs we’re allowed to use to gimp our own itemization.

if they want something successful:

  1. Crafting has to permit us to CUSTOMIZE our weapon… craft means “exercise skill in making (an object), typically by hand.” Why can’t we change anything on it???
FS you’re lucky… someone started the job… you can pick the weapon customisation mod
  2. Fix the problem with finding a good base weapon.
FS, Brunt is a good feature ruined by its impementation (RNG ftl)… Melk and Brunt are not the answer to permit us to find good base weapons
My suggestion would be a shop where you can ask to ameliorate a weapon…
  3. Implement red weapons. Something that would permit to change 1 more locked slot (blessing or perk) at the price of an expansive amount of diamantine (we have too much of it)

I think if they release some sort of crafting overhaul together with weapon customization, that would be an update of epic proportions, maybe on par with Chaos Wastes for V2 in terms of importance for game’s long-term health.

Alas, that’s probably not happening.

Ok! These are really good actually, Ralendil. I know sometimes I’m critical of you, but this is a very organized, reasonable series of problems which are defined and actionable with solutions that satisfy the most people, as much of the time as possible. I’m not personalky a fan of the lock removal grind idea and i’d rather it be gone entirely, mind you, but it’s a frustratingly reasonable compromise. A credit to you, sir, well done.
