Crafting is the main thing that will probably get me to quit again

Sounds like “we’re yet to discuss what to do but we are definitely planning to sit on it someday” in corporate speak.

I’m kinda shocked with them sticking to their guns regarding keeping the locks to a degree.

I’ve already bricked sone 370s entirely because of that system. It also still makes Malk’s and rewards from missions undesirable because 9 times out of 10 they come pre bricked and even if they have good base stats you usually can’t fix enough to get what you want.

I think when people are making mods just to roll 10+ items at a time you gotta ask yourself what you are doing with your crafting system

Just give us the weaves weapon system man, that’s literally all they have to do. There’s still a bit of a grind there, but then at least once you grind it out you can just pick and choose what you want out of your weapons.

I will literally never understand why they refuse to do this, both in DT and VT2.

I’m less than a fan of the crafting system as it stands. I can’t say I’ve yet reached the problems that many of you are having, however, I certainly do find myself far, far, too low on Plasteel more often than not as I’m merely gearing up to start crafting in earnest. Bluing specific weapons gets very expensive, even when all you want to do is break them down for the blessings they have. It’s gotten to the point where merely prepping for crafting has led me to avoid playing the game nearly as much as I’d like to, simply due to the tedium involved.

Just wait until you have to do inventory management and have to manually check and salvage each item one by one in a system where 99% of items you will ever have are duds.

I 100% installed a mod for it. I don’t understand why it doesn’t have an auto tag and mass salvage system if it expects you to roll that many items.

This should be a default feature.

Until it is here’s the mass salvage and also the mass mod:

(Sorry to X-Box players I guess, don’t wear out your thumb selling stuff)

Many things should be a default feature, but they aren’t either due to oversights, bad management or malicious design.

I’ve already been using Buy Until Rating. I’ll have to look into Barter At Once.

I suggest also picking up the 2d icons for inventory if you haven’t, it makes it so you can see a lot more items per row and makes it far more compact to see a general overview.

You know, I completely forgot that they don’t even test these systems under conditions like that of an actual player with a life outside of grinding plasteel. If we’re to test their stuff for free I would certainly prefer the changes come a little faster when there is so much unequivocal feedback for like, 8 months straight.

That is what I mean, I have no clue why they’re being so cagey about it. You’d think they were discussing some really gamebreaking future content updates and not just fixing a bad crafting system. Hence my 100% credible and authentic theory about them being held hostage by the swedish government.

Of course, it’s possible that they were gonna make changes they were sure people would be mad over, and don’t want people to be mad in advance… with luck that’s not the case.

Something sad with Darktide in general is that the gameplay itself is good and most of the time quite fun… while the rest of the game is underwhelming and undercooked.

Penances need a revamp now when there’s so many new abilities in the pool, which would require more cosmetics to unlock… which Fatshark would never bother with.

Crafting is definitely the main offender, being a gambling simulator. Why can’t I increase the percentile values with resources? Why can’t I scrap weapons into crafting resources? Why can I only modify a weapon twice before it locks up? Fatshark failed hard on Crafting.

According to CarFish, she is and has been giving her higher-ups our feedback and does so weekly for DT and tells them in a meeting what our pain points are.

But every single time we ask her what happend to our feedback, she comes back with a different reason (excuse) as to why what we’re asking for can’t or won’t happen. The most recent one as an example:

Us) crafting is bad and is unanimously hated, change / fix it!

FS) you forum / reddit guys are only a smal number, we don’t know what the rest of the community thinks. (The implication being that the silent part of the comminity doesn’t hate the crafting RNG)

Us) but that’s dumb as hell for reason a - z!

Fs) silence once again.

This looks to me like there is someone higher up insisting on keeping the crafting in it’s current form.

I think what kills me about the crafting system is that they really don’t need to reinvent the wheel but in trying to do so we landed back on probably one of the worst aspects of the crafting system that fights their own setup.

Generally i imagine the idea that was pitched involved a lockless system where you can swap out scopes, bits, etc.

Then they tasted and went “ehh, this isn’t working so lets make blessing and modifiers the main thing”.

That’s not a bad system but it pretty much entirely relies on being able to rapidly change out modifiers on weapons you want to test stuff with and experiment to get the most out of the crafting system.

Then at some point a person got the bright idea to add the locks because a bunch of buzz words “Player retention, replay value, daily check ins, FOMO” etc.

Then when it launched the person who made the system didn’t want to feel / look stupid so they dug their heels in and insisted that it was a core part of the crafting even though every other aspect of the crafting system is literally designed around being able to get blessings, mix and match them with modifiers, and try new builds without it being CBT (Crafting and Brunt Torture) to try and get an item with the setup you want to try.

Buy Until Rating is a dangerous one though. Everyone of my friends using it is basically broke all the time. It leads you to just waste the money until you have enough.

I’d like to direct you to this quote back from Winds of Magic

This was laughable back then. And given that not much in their behaviour has changed, is still laughable now.

I have asked around a bit in game lobbies before mission start … No one said the crafting was good … So that “Silent majority/ vocal minority” (wich can be true in other case) seems to be their way to tell us stfo we just want your time and money, making a good game come after that …
I need to take real notes and crunch number next time to add it to brosgw forum number/stat …
but sadly after 3 week chasing a flamming sword blessing i’m a bit burned out …

And even with a in game survey I bet they still will try to twist the result to says the crafting is in fact fine …

Yes that was really telling as to how little they want to change this silly-ass system. I strongly suspect they just tell Catfish to make up some stuff as to why they can’t change it, when the real reason is “player retention, replay value, FOMO, daily checkins, microtransaction interaction opportunities” garbage. It’s the simplest explanation, which sadly makes it a pretty likely one.

That was a silly excuse when you thought about it even slightly, which of course means it wasn’t the actual reason they aren’t doing anything. The actual reason would almost certainly rile us up more if they’re being this tight-lipped about it.

I recall they did a feedback survey really early on, but that may have been before the crafting system was even cough cough finished, which of course took 2 months after actual release. I believe then the complaints were all about the shop rotations which have been marginally improved by Brunt’s shop.

What one hand giveth, 2 hands taketh away.
