Could we get an explainer about the audio issues?

Anyone with some hours in the game knows that audio has some serious issues and apparent limitations. There are certain areas on maps where audio just cuts off as you transition between audio “zones”, which was previously acknowledged as a known issue.

There are also some issues with specials audio cues NOT being sufficiently prioritised during hordes, so you often get “silent” muties, trappers etc. There are also occasional issues with backstab sound not playing, possibly latency related.

What’s the problem here? Too many sources of audio? Engine limitations? Are these issues fixable?
