Congratulations, your player retention tactics did the opposite

You ignore the entirety of his post just to defend a “released” game that wasn’t even finished in Fartsharks own words.

I didn’t. The majority of his post is due to his frustration with the game, which is due in part to his own actions. Given he can control his actions and maybe change to get some joy out of the game, I tried to advise him down that path.

It’s very odd that the idea of personal accountability for one’s own actions and goals for something is somehow a defense of a game.

I’ve tried that yes. You know what’s the problem? I want to experiment, try new builds, new weapons… that’s the current “endgame”. That’s how people had fun in Vermintide 2 and it was more or less easy to craft what you wanted there.

Here there’s layer upon layer of RNG and unfinished features. The new crafting is not “less repetitive and random” like they promised, the main feature which are the blessings is not even out so I’m stuck with +3% sprint on my ranged weapon instead of a tier 4 perk that gives me stuff to complement my build. Even then, diff 4 and 5 gimme a million diamantine but I’m always out of plasteel, with no way to convert between the two.

The perk option, upon it being free should have a drop down menu allowing you to select the perk you’d like. Having a player have to sit there and go through them endlessly achieves nothing and builds resentement.

It’s a shitty system and they need to fix it. This system is put in place by someone who hasn’t played this game much.

Why not just make it so you pay the full amount that takes now to go to the free threshold, and you get to choose the perk from the start, without locking the other one! No time wasted, no RNG. You already grinded the mats in the missions so why make me waste 5 minutes rerolling…

If I like chocolate ice cream because its brown color and you like chocolate ice cream because it tastes good we BOTH like chocolate ice cream. If chocolate ice cream is changed to be purple colored and I don’t want to eat it anymore that doesn’t make me wrong or bad. I don’t have to enjoy chocolate ice cream the same way you do. My expectations for chocolate ice cream are different than yours even though we both enjoy it.

So, let me get this straight. You’d be happier if your 3% sprint was instead 8% damage to elites because it’d allow you to experiment? Come on now.

You want to be able to build the best weapon faster. That’s your complaint right. The veiling it in “oh, I want to try this, wanna try that” is just to make it less transparent.

If not, why can’t you experiment with the weapons available? Can you not figure out if you like a zealot bleed build with a combat dagger without having the top 1% one?

bruh

There’s an easy explanation to this. It’s because if you make the tools to design the gear easier, it allows players to turn the game into a math equation removing the fun.

Suddenly there’s only one build. Everyone’s playing it, the game gets stale.

If however there are difficult choices on your weapon, you may make choices that you normally wouldn’t, allowing you to maybe try a different playstyle. It makes the game more shallow, less fun.

It’s a decent metaphor but you’re missing an element I think.

Let’s say we both like chocolate ice cream and a specific brand. I eat it when I feel like eating it, you eat it every hour, on the hour. Suddenly you start to like the ice cream less and less, but you don’t stop eating the ice cream on the hour every hour. Suddenly you notice that you don’t like the ice crystals, the chocolate isn’t as great, etc.

It’s fair to suggest that the ice cream is of a shitty quality. And it’s true. But it’s also fair to suggest that maybe that wouldn’t be as big of an issue if the person wasn’t eating ice cream as much as they are. /shrug

Can you even read what I write, please? BLESSINGS. You know I could have immunity to close range attacks after a kill? Or 4 crit chance for each bullet missing in a magazine of 30 with my braced autogun? That would make an obvious difference with my current build.

If we are talking about perks then your argument is still bad. Why not give us the “agency” they promised and let us choose the perk directly after paying. They shouldn’t care about us having 10% more damage vs a type of enemy but we should, what if its a breakpoint?

And you cannot make those choices because features are missing, everything depends on the base weapon you buy on a time gated rng shop, and you still need even more weapon RNG when we eventually get to extract their blessings. Also it’s funny you talk about build choices when the current feats offer you 1 and at most 2 builds on some characters (unless you are Psyker, everyone including Fatshark hates them lmao). Vermintide 2 had 15 classes at launch.

I agree if you ate chocolate ice cream every hour it would be a horrible scenario very quickly for a number of reason so lets switch back to the game so there aren’t any big brown messes to clean up.

Playing a game for 200 hours while someone else only has 100 hours doesn’t change the expectations each of those people have for the “fun” in that game. The person with 200 hours might feel more strongly about what they think because they have had more time to analyze and experience it. If you were to go back in time and force the person with 200 hours to only play for 50 hours it wouldn’t change how they have fun, or why they have fun, or their expectations for fun. They would still come to the same exact conclusions because that is who they are.

We are all just different people who are satisfied for different reasons. The fact you can enjoy the game for what it is at the moment is great. Tons of posts and reviews push a very different picture than the one you personally experience. There are a large number of people unhappy with the game for a lot of reasons and playing too much or focusing on weapon numbers is not a factor in any of that.

Move on from the idea that fun is lessened because people play too many hours or would have more fun if they only paid attention to the exact same things you do. People don’t function like that. Everything the OP has said is totally legit and applies to their experience with Darktide.

Steam reviews - from December 1st onwards this game is sitting at 47% positive. The majority response to this game has been negative.

Some people “the game’s fine you’re just playing it wrong”

uh-huh

End-game RNG and shop camping is probably the worse mechanic in any game I can remember.
Microtransactions and P2W feel like super fun, innovative and player-friendly mechanics compared to what we have now with itemization and crafting.

The game doesn’t respect the player’s time. Flat out.

He has the right to play the time that comes out of his balls and to distribute it as it comes out of his balls. And that does not take away from him one iota of reason in everything he has said.

I have barely reached 60 hours in 4 weeks and I think exactly the same as him. And these problems were coming from the beginning.

And now where are those people who said, “it’s still a beta”, when we warned them that this was going to be incomplete because of the history that FS has?

Your argument would be valid if the game had been completed when it came out. It is not the case. And what has come out is also very poorly designed. We are tired of repeating it so many times. V2 was cheaper and had much better base content than this scam.

That’s right, every single person should be able to play the game any way they want and everyone should have a great experience. That’s the ideal, but that game doesn’t exist.

Since we live in reality, we have to understand that how we engage with anything affects how we feel about it. Games, relationships, etc.

In light of that, people still sit back and say “The game has to be exactly what I want and cater to how I wish to consume it, and I’ll complain if it doesn’t. I shouldn’t have to change how I interact with it.”

If that’s your position, it’s asinine.

Its probably more like 100 hours while the rest of the time is there because the game wont close properly and steam think its still running.

I don’t seriously take any review that doesn’t recommend a game that they’ve been playing for more then 80 hours.

It’s sort of like ordering a burger and fries, eating all but two fries and going “oh, it wasn’t edible.”
