What is the status on shared inventories? Are the devs considering making inventories + currencies shared across characters, or is it a definite no?
If you wanna push for slight changes so that casuals have a better time, why not advocate for lock removal still? It makes the RNG mechanics 100× worse and is very much so a factor for ppl leaving. The same argument applies for all the other suggestion too but are maybe not as easely implementable.
The only thing that needs to be engaging enough for increasing players is that the gameplay is good. Just look at VT2s balance of “how good is the gameplay vs how grindy is the endgame”.
In Darktides case, the gameplay is good but everything else isn’t!
Just because it’s unlikely it will change doesn’t mean we should just quietly accept it.
Even if they come out and straight up say that it will never be changed, they won’t stop hearing about it. That element of design is so bad, stupid and disrespectful of our time it just has to go. The fact that we are not hearing about it is very likely because it’s “here to stay”.
Cause:
- this is not the real problem, problem is the time you need to invest to get what you want to use
- they won’t do it as there are lot of guys that asked for this, made threads, posted 800 times to ask for this… and what is the result? nothing
- the locks are essential in the system they have designated… so I have strong doubts they will remove them
Considering this, I ask for slight changes that they could consider, cause I want the situation improve. As I say sometimes to my kid that is 6, “you can roll on the ground as much as you want, it won’t change anything”. Asking for something that will never happen, is just wasting time.
I have already seen someone using, 3 months ago, the argument that I can’t be sure it won’t happen and that if we want the perks and blessing unlocked we have to ask etc.
But I don’t want that… I want just that casual players can find fun in the game. And, again, locks are not the real problem.
Anyways, if they would have the intention to remove them, I think that we would now it by now.
I think that there will be, later, a system to remove the annoyance they represent, like there was something similar in VT2. But, when the game will be close to the end of its life cycle.
While I get where you’re coming from and this is ultimately a matter of opinion anyways, reroll locks create so many more problems than what they “solve”.
It affects your items you spent god knows how long getting when they get rebalanced, it makes you unable to try out new builds and synergies, it’s nothing but an annoyance no matter how you slice it and the only 2 things it does are: “increasing the grind” and have ppl talk about it.
I get the point of “locks wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t take 100years to get what you want” but on the reverse if it takes no time to get what you want, what would the locks even do at that point? Sure there might be a middle ground where locks do something and it doesn’t take playing DT to be my job to actually progress but honestly… No matter how you look at it, something needs to change and whether it’s less effort to remove the locks and change the system accordingly or come up with a rebalance that allows locks to stay and “have a purpose” is a really hard question to answer either way.
What I’d prefer is for them to not wait until the end of DTs lifecycle to try removing them. It’s a costly and time consuming process to fix the current system fully but what doesn’t take a lot of time is to remove the locks and see what happens
please ask the Dev to finally buff the Recon lasguns.
Hey
We have seen the feedback from the players and I understand these are pressing questions, but right now we are not in a position to be able to give more information as we are still discussing these internally. Once we are able to share information on this I will make sure to include it in a comm-link or similar!
+1 for communicating and sharing this information. Thank you @FatsharkCatfish.
Unironically I thank you from the bottom of my heart, cuz I really REALLY want this game to achieve godhood it deserves
So
I dont know in what form the feedback from here (forums etc) is delivered into those internal talks.
But if one thing can be put into it -
Dont fight the player, even your most ardent supporters dislike this progression system. Let us make the builds we want and I guarantee you. More people will play this game.
And if there are those who only care about bottom line - more people playing constantly, trying out builds and characters
= more people potentially buying cosmetics
It was funny for a while, but please consider switching the title to something more suitable given most people still playing this game are well past the reject point. Consider Adepts or Acolytes or something befitting the rank we achieved as an actual inductee to the inquisition.
Edit: Basically the “rejects” joke has run its course. And the joke also presents a sort of apathy towards the player base that has lost all humor.
Hey thanks for finally responding to questions like these.
Even though you can’t really share any info, it is good to know that the team is actually looking into these problems as it seemed like those things just get ignored.
I would wish for you or the team in general to react to criticism more often.
Yeah well, it’s just how things realisticaly are. Maybe we complain about things that are 2 steps behind from current development they have. Like fashion randomizer mod spawns red weapons (their stats aren’t working properly tho. Also sexy 2h power sword model heu heu), not even saying we can see modifier caps are calculated for stats if they were at 100%, so reds will come one day, the question is how soon. We are an early access dwellers.
I’m working on updating my steam review. It will still be listed as “not recommended” until a few things change:
- Reduce crazy item RNG to an acceptable level (remove locks, etc)
- Reduce silo’ing between characters. At a minimum share currencies and resources so I can play whatever character I feel like and then funnel the earned resources into whatever my progression priority is.
The above is really the bare minimum that’s needed to allow us to play the game with some degree of agency and control. I have over 200 hours now, mostly spent on Psyker (just one character) and only have a handful (like 3) of weapons with the blessings I want. It’s virtually impossible to share and test out builds because it’s so difficult to just get the item you need to even try it out.
- Change the mission terminal so we get a random but large set of missions with assorted modifiers but can specify whatever difficulty level we want.
- Improve private lobbies and add solo lobbies.
- Allow us to quickly switch characters in the hub without having to reload the whole thing.
The above is also pretty important base functionality IMHO, and without those improvements I still feel like we’re in “Early Access” mode. If the above critical issues get addressed, I’ll likely switch my review to positive.
That said, it would have a number of caveats, as there are still all the other remaining issues and needs:
- Need more maps with more interesting objectives and challenges to do.
- Need either another difficulty level and/or some sort of hardcore mode modifier we can use to increase difficulty further (personally I’d love to see a hardcore mode with a nominal amount of friendly fire added back to the game, less wounds, less ammo, a bit tougher enemies, etc).
- Need to add basic weapon re-color options for all of an items Mk variants. For example, why are the only Force Sword basic recolors actually also model swaps to the Illis force sword Mk? Where are the actual obscurus Mk recolors? Feels incomplete and inconsistent. More color options would be great.
- Need some “premium-like” cosmetics added to the game as grindable-penances (eg complete 50 games on Heresy+) and/or a way to slowly earn premium currency in game.
- Needs a new set of sub-classes for each archetype
- Needs an end of mission “stat board” (let’s not call it a scoreboard) of some type to close the gameplay loop.
Regardless as to whether the locks are removed or not, would just like to hear a final verdict.
Should address us as “varlets” tbh
I’m sure there’s some epic quote that captures this, but I doubt FS will say anything one way or another in advance of changes.
If they have no intention of ever changing it, admitting that will probably just cause a lot of people to throw in the towel and call it day. Honestly I probably would.
Them not saying anything keeps the door open and keeps people hoping (and playing).
If they actually intend to address this, there wouldn’t lose anything by communicating their intent to make improvements, and heck it might even keep people holding on a little longer.
The fact that they haven’t said anything makes me think they don’t intend to do anything about.
So I’ll either be pleasantly surprised or throw in the towel regardless.
OMG, perfect.
@FatsharkCatfish You know what to do!
I dont believe it’s hard to get info out of them when it comes to locks, shared currency etc because they need this system for player retention, or because of some “investors say we must do this” situation. I’ve got pretty simple reasoning for that too, Darktides player retention has been verifiably dogshit. If I know this, they know this too. That approach doesn’t work.
I’m guessing that people in charge of design are holding very firm onto these ideas and it’s to the detriment of the games player retention and ultimate player enjoyment. Basically it seems that there is a hateboner for the idea of crafting your own gear and being able to actually minmax it, despite this being a major source of fun for players. Unfortunate, but not much can be done unless a change of heart or hierarchy occurs.
I’m sure there’s some epic quote that captures this,
Since you refuse to free my people
All through the land of Egypt
I send a pestilence and plague
Into your house, into your bed
Into your streams, into your streets
Into your drink, into your bread
Upon your cattle, on your sheep
Upon your oxen in your field
Into your dreams, into your sleep
Until you break, until you yield
I send the swarm, I send the horde
Thus saith the Lord
Once I called you brother
Once I thought the chance
To make you laugh
Was all I ever wanted
I send the thunder from the sky
I send the fire raining down
And even now I wish that God
Had chose another
Serving as your foe on his behalf
Is the last thing that I wanted
I send a hail of burning ice
On every field, on every town
This was my home
All this pain and devastation
How it tortures me inside
All the innocent who suffer
From your stubbornness and pride
I send the locusts on a wind
Such as the world has never seen
On every leaf, on every stalk
Until there’s nothing left of green
I send my scourge, I send my sword
Thus saith the Lord
You who I called brother
Why must you call down another blow?
I send my scourge, I send my sword
Let my people go
Thus saith the Lord
Thus saith the Lord
You who I called brother
How could you have come to hate me so?
Is this what you wanted?
I send the swarm, I send the horde
Then let my heart be hardened
And never mind how high the cost may grow
This will still be so
I will never let your people go
Thus saith the Lord
Thus saith the Lord
I will not
Let your (my) people go
(emphasis mine).

Cosmetics Issues
Currently, some head cosmetics completely hide your character’s facial hair and hairstyle options. This is due to some issues around clipping and other texture bugs. We are currently working on a solution that will reduce the number of cases where we have to resort to this method, and you can expect it to come in with a patch in the near future.
Is this part of the patch #7 or is it currently missing ? cant see it in the patch note
