Yeah. As ridiculous as a frame is as a “unique reward based on the community’s actions” is to me, premium currency just wouldn’t work as the final themed reward. They could have done milestone rewards for rations destroyed/recovered given to all players that included premium currency, but not for this. Thematic weapon skins or even a universal skin that fits thematically with “destroyed rations” or “recovered rations” would have been way better than a basic ass frame lol
This is true in this specific case. I think the main point is that frames, trinkets, insignias are kinda lame rewards. It seems that everyone would love weapon skins, hats, maybe even customization options instead. Or Aquilas, generally speaking, since that amounts to getting one of those things indirectly.
hey, that’s exactly what we got for the event. what, you don’t like rat tails? ‘s good nosh
I did precisely that btw. Hoarded those 500 and that brought an arbitrator’s cosmetic into reasonable pricing range
but yeah, another frame for the unending pile of frames (can only use 1 btw)
If only FS was half competent and player-oriented as GGG
I think this is why I’m loving Titan Quest 2 so much. It’s still in super early access, with only 2 chapters (each ~10±2 hours of content) and I’m approaching 120 hours since it released in August. The devs are just focused on making a fun game and they’re doing a great job. There’s no seasonal resets, no cash shop with premium currency, no absurd RNG mechanics that can brick your gear (or break it entirely, looking at you Asian MMOs), and no FOMO tactics at play. Just an interesting story, fun gameplay, and fairly balanced skills and itemization. I’m already convinced I’ll be buying any expansions or DLC Masteries they may release because I want to support them and they’re doing a great job so far.
I wish more devs would take note that people would happily play games, and buy stuff from the shop, if they’re fun without needing to be tricked into playing more. Hell, I purchased Farthest Frontier on launch day purely off of the knowledge that Crate Entertainment was the developer and I trust them after Grim Dawn.
Grim Dawn and Titan Quest are certainly some of my all-time favorite games, both in terms of how devs treat em and how well made the games are. Can’t glaze em enough, excellent games and devs to bring up.
They’re proof you don’t need to do any of this customer-hostile, manipulative stuff to succeed as a game company, you just need to make an actually good game. It’s not a compromise like people with battered wife syndrome often argue.
The next class should be a playable Character frame.
It would be nice to get something other than a frame for a change. A rations backpack for the humans and ogryn would have been perfect.
If Vermintide 2 is any indication a lot of these obscure event frames that were basically just ‘turn the game on during this one week/two week window’ will rise to prominence in like 3 years. Its an investment in yourself guys! Oh wait there’s no trading. I will say the Nurgle-fied incense burner from the Dark Rituals event is still the best insignia in the game and this rations frame will be high tier as well. But I go by ‘does it look good’ and not ‘was there some awesome gamer quest tied to getting it’.
Also, some rewards of Gifts of the Wolf Father are frames and cosmetics from past events, so everyone have a change to get them again, by example Obese Megalodon (hat from VT 5th anniversary past event) and all your characters can use it.

“Login to Vermintide 2 one time to get an award equivalent to the unique themed reward from an entire community event in our other game, Darktide!” -Fatshark
But we’re the crazy ones for expecting Fatshark to do better.
maybe 6 years into darktide we’ll get free stuff, like with vermintide 2. more than 1000 aquillas to date anyway.
What always kind of confuses me is that Fatshark actually has tons of cosmetics that they don’t even bother to put on the store anymore. Those old cosmetics they have they won’t waste store rotations on, presumably because they didn’t sell well, and they could instead re-run one that did sell well.
Like, why don’t they take those bottom sellers that have only been on the store once to date, and give them out with something like this? Why so stingy? They’re not worth putting on the store anyway, so why do they have to never become available ever again? Might aswell do giveaways and event rewards with them. Solves both problems.
True, a frame labeled as “unique commemorative reward” leaves much to be desired, and more compared to Vermintide.
It’s funny to think about how even after years of playing almost every event in Darktide, I can now get one weapon skin for free. In Vermintide it’s just one of of like 25 rewards in a single event that gives out multiple cosmetic sets alongside, PLUS there’s way more free weapon skins to begin with.
It’s insane just how stingy the Darktide team is. Like what’s the argument here, “oh yeah but in Vermintide you had to pay for content?” Same for Darktide, I’ve paid 13 bucks each to play the last two big content drops.
