Im not sure if it matters what someone says. It either is or isnt. Imo, online only games that you own are GaaS. Even if the CEO came out and said “no no, its NOT a live service game” then I would laugh and think, “oh, but it is”
We have seen with many other “live service” games in the past that the term doesnt actually mean frequent updates even if it should. It wouldnt change how often FS update, it wouldnt hold them accountable to anything other than it being an online only game.
I honestly can’t care less about what the did or did not say. If Fatshark wants people to believe this game is NOT a live service game, then remove the fricking MTX rotation shop garbage all together. They can even release additional skins as DLCs on Steam, with fixed listing, and fixed prices that you pay directly in the clear.
I think it’s pretty fair that if they want to do rotational FOMO-focused MTX point shop in this game, a la gacha style, then this game is by definition a live service game, period, regardless how they lie about it and pretend otherwise.
It’s not like they have a track records of their words actually matter as much as their actions anyway.
Imma be honest I dont care anymore what FS said or didnt say. During the years FS hass repeatedly proven that they cant be trusted with their words and thus I will only judge based on their actions.
Did they claim DT was a live service game? Dont care. The infrastructure that DT has and how FS manages the game IS in fact that of a live service game. If theyre delusional and dont call it as such, fine by me, but only because someone sees a cow as a fish, doesnt change the fact that the cow, is in fact, still a cow.
Unless FS changes a majority of things in DT, such as a true offline mode, removing MTX FOMO,
the ridiculous amount of RNG, etc. I will call DT a live service game, because that is the objective truth, whether you like it or not, and theres no-one stopping me calling it that way.
