Chaos Wastes - Free update coming April 20th

So there is a press release or something? Maybe we get more over the weekend then.

That reviewer got a pre-release copy for the purpose of making a preview, as far as I understand it. Also apparently some twitch streamers will be allowed to show gameplay over the weekend. I wandered into Fu’s stream last night as he was the only one around at the time and he said he’ll be showing stuff tonight.

That is cool. Also stole the video and posted it in the Steam Forum :stuck_out_tongue: to shut up people still in denial and thinking this will be some kind of cheap, low quality work with re-used assets.

I’m sure they’ll find something to rage about.

I do not see Cousin Okri anywhere, negative review! :<

Oke that looks even more dope than I was hoping. Only thing I’m slightly saddened about is the fact that your gear on character is once again seemingly ignored but honestly i can totally live with that.

What do you mean? What you have chosen or the rest? From what I have seen you start your Chaos Wastes run with the same weapons and talents you’ve chosen in the keep. But as they are make shift weapons you don’t have properties and traits on it. But the gear you chose pre-run is what you start with.

Basically its the white variants of the weapons you choose and not the top kitted reds you have been grinding for the past 3 years. As i said its fine and typical of roque-lites but still bit bummered by it.

Meh, don’t care for that one. The only thing missing is maybe some breakpoints and some stamina stuff. On the other side it seems you get a real load of additional talents. This will definetely play differently than the main adventure mode.

From the uncut run, it seems you can even get talents from the same talent row. So having two THP talents and other absurdities are possible plus Chaos Wastes specific talents.

Obviously its just a personal gripe and no real argument against the mode. Tbh from what I have seen from some content creators the mode looks pretty dam impressive and most of my gripes at this point are really nitpicky at best.

Some of the talent, boon combinations indeed look pretty ridiculous but obviously we are dealing with limited amount of coins so how crazy can we get is still bit of a mystery.

I’m a bit perplex that fatshark has thought to bring hero power into the rogue lite. I’d have us starting with grey weapons, but with the HP maxed out already. We’ll see how this works on the highest difficulties.

I haven’t been able to find out: the weapons you get in the chaos wastes are totally random, or do you get the same type of weapon you had (greataxes, for example)?

If it affects bots, it is definitely not fine. Strange, developer said:

They’re the same bots as in the Campaign/Adventure mode

Also, bots cannot buy anything during an Expedition. That is, bots in CW become artificially weakened bags of meat, isn’t it? Again “forced socialization”?

Well I personally don’t ever really play with bots so I won’t take part into that conversation. That said if you can spend the coins on 1 character only then you basically become a god in the end so that’s I guess something.

In a co-op game? Madness!

Well, Vermintide is a coop game, after all. Always was. It’s all designed with that in mind. And yeah: If you want to play alone because you prefer it that way that is totally your right, and it’s great that there is a system with bots in place. But in the end your decision to play alone is your decision alone, and not nescessarily the developers’ vision. There doesn’t exist “right” that entitles you to the full game experience when playing solo. Because it’s just not possible to balance a game (any game) in such a way that the experience of playing solo with bots is completely the same as playing with people, and the devs need to pick one situation to design towards. Vermintide has always been designed towards the multiplayer experience. So complaining about the new gamemode being tailored towards multiplayer and playing alone with bots is an inferior experience does seem a bit silly to me.

Co-op for “1-4 player”, as descibed above:

all-new 1-4 player co-op rogue-lite experience

The forced multiplayer (due to the truncated functions) is the WoM. This is enough, it is obvious to everyone how bad it turned out to be.

Co-op. As in: co-operate with other people. And just because you can play something alone, doesn’t mean the game needs to have its focus there. In the end you can design a game in such a way that it focuses either on the single player experience, or in such a way that it focuses on the multiplayer experience. And no matter which one you focus on, the experience of the other one is going to suffer somewgat. And FS has decided to focus on multiplayer. Vermintide was always designed for multiplayer, with single player being an option, but not the focus. And CW has apparently been designed in the same way, which makes 100% sense.

Also, I don’t know why you are so adamant on playing alone with bots, because playing with other people is very enjoyable in this game. Add me! We’ll play some runs together and I’ll show you! I’ll happily help you with your challenges as well.

Apparently random upgrade properties and traits too. Can’t wait for the casino experience. Definitely less skill based than standard Adventure mode.

So, I watched J-sat playing it… While I liked the gameplay and the level concept, I strongly dislike the decision to neuter the equipment. It doesn‘t seem nearly as bad as the weaves, though. (That’s me being so optimistic that people who know me would start thinking about body snatchers.)
