Chaos spawn unfair grab attack

Please make that the grab attack makes you invulnerable to flamers (maybe poxbusters, and definitely fire barrels/fire pools), do devs know how hard it’s to dodge a Chaos spawn grab attack with +150 ping and using thunderhammer?, if y’all don’t know… yeah it is hard (skill issue on my part maybe). This include grab attack from nurgle beast too (but in this case it’s less of a problem because being eaten by it is less of a threat).

Well… I’d say it’s 100 times worse being eaten by a BON because you still trigger demon hosts and take full damage from everything, much of which continues attacking whilst in the belly! :joy:

totally agree.
Also to OP, don’t dodge… block

Yes the grabbing will happen, but it is not that will kill you… at contrary of a nurgle beast that eat you.

guess you´ve yet to encounter the joy of getting munched on, carried around half the map, have it spin in place like having a spstic seizure only to spew you out with 1% health into a horde.

good thing i emptied my can of energy already or i would have spat it onto my oled :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

something way off with their pathfinding or rather the lack of it.

Sounds like there’s a bit of everything in the mix, 150ms ping (!!!) sure doesn’t help and neither does the hammer. Is there no region closer to you? >100 is rather painful.

Sounds like there might be some of this too, and I don’t mean it as an insult.

On a related note, does your team stagger it when you’re grabbed? Do they even know they can?

Just Bait CS to a team and then immediately knock free said teammate.

The chaos spawn grab IS jank, because there is no check on dodge state like most melee attacks. You know, how you can space an overhead with ballsy enough timing? You have to hurl yourself on its right arm if its too close, its your only possible chance. Its highly unintuitive but it does work. The grab is still an absolute cheap trick vs the previous game, where dodge state still applied to this attack. The punish was far worse in VT2 because he would always damage you for flailing and there was even a bug where he would flail you and then eat you sometimes. Still needs Chaos Wastes mods to be a real threat, because enough play experience will let you dodge him reliably.

Here its literally never forget to dodge in a wholly illogical fashion for the plain fact that its the only way to scoot out of the path of the scooping grab. Because you can’t dodge it with dodge state. Its like a horizontally swung trapper net.

The mechanic boils down to a team-check to save a player, its as simple as that.

it’s annoying that dodging works only to the right, under its grabbing arm. so you have to stay on the left and leave space for dodging if necessary. but sometimes there simply is no space, like in tight rooms.

the team should always have one dude clearing specials, then crowds if the area you’re fighting the spawn isn’t clear. the grab is fair, you and your team just blow at threat priorities.

3 tips to avoid boss grabs:

  1. BEAST OF NURGLE: avoid that vomit at all costs and dodge behind anything like boxes, blocks, pillars it takes practice, you can side dodge this vomit too, keep a 5 meter bubble from its front 180° (left to right arm reach)

Kill it on the yellow weakspot if you can, otherwise keep firing away at the level of area that lines up w wrakspot

  1. Chaos Spawn: its grabs can be avoided by being parried

  2. Plague Ogryn: its stomps can be blocked

Cornering these monsters is also really good, just don’t get cornered by them.

Cornering can be done by Vet Voice Of Command or Zealot Choir of Spiritual Fortitude (“the shouts”)

It pushes and pins chaos spawn visibly, plague ogryn fairly, as for beast of nurgle it only does a minor to no stagger

Lastly even though people may get triggered by their wording in content, Tanner Lindberg has videos that shown how to become a boss at taking on Beast Of Nurgle and Chaos Spawn. Its much appreciated that he had shown that content to learn more.

Both Chaos Spawn and Plague Ogryn are the two monsters that you can lock in place with enough practice (15 mins in meat grinder).

Doesn’t matter if Chaos Spawn jumps to you or crawling while attacking to get close to you, once you’re close enough he will perform one of the two 1.) overhead attack, 2.) grab attack. You have to force Chaos Spawn into this mode (close mode) to start the locking mechanic. When it gap close to me I always walk right to it to force the boss into close stance.

Locking Mechanic.
Only dodging left and right every time it performs attack animation. Don’t dodge back, the distance will activate different attacks. The overhead attack is easy to keep the boss still and stay in this stance. You can dodge left or right when he does the overhead attack, doesn’t really matter you will successfully dodge the attack.

Grab Attack:
In this close stance/mode, he will sometime perform a grab attack which can be scary at first. In the beginning I would dodge back or whatever depending on the space I have. That’s not a good idea. The trick is, when he does the grab attack, always always dodge to your right. 100% dodge rate. The only issue is the space. If you don’t have the space to dodge to your right, it’s doomed.

So once you know all this, you only have one problem to solve when fighting Chaos Spawn. Make sure you have space to dodge to the right. That’s it.

Of course this doesn’t account for other variables such as specials and your teammate screwing the boss patterns by ccing and other stupid things players can think of. But I believe this mechanic will be a great help.

Good luck.
