I don’t remember exactly, but there is a bug at certain respawn points on some maps that changes the respawn location.
When a player approaches a player waiting to be rescued, that player is instantly moved to the next far away respawn location.
To add to OP’s argument, this notably happens on Hab Dreyko.
Before the mid-section event is accessed through an air-lock, there is a room with door control, next to which is a player respawn point. As that respawn point is approached, the rescue-able players are moved to a forward respawn point, which is located in the hab proper, up on the first floor.
