A former Fatshark employee once said “This is not COD.”
Obviously some developers would disagree because gunfight stalemates are back more than ever! For someone who appreciates the melee combat of Darktide the latest buffs for enemy shooters feel rather terrible.
Gunners and shooters are now competing with their fellow snipers when it comes to far ranged gunfights. And their aim(bot) does not get swayed by fog, darkness or walls of flames. Meanwhile players have to deal with this in addition to suppression sway, finite ammo and less vertical mobility (NPCs can climb on structures that are not even accessible by players).
My favorite situation is an army of gunners gathering around a demon host. (In theory you can try to lure them away but random groups often behave like if the Commissar is right behind them and if tactical retreat would result in immediate execution).
So… when do we get “melee enemies only” mission modifiers?
Wish i made recordings of my games. Gunner aim is separate from their animation, I ran behind one as a zealot faster than they could move but their shots tracked through them. It was funny but also really not. I hope that bug is fixed asap
Will definitely admit fading light definitely does feel like the average cod match where rounding a corner is met with an immediate spray down with 0 chance of fighting back.
As for regular modes you have grace period and a chance to just start dodging and sliding to become immune to bullets.
I don’t want to play melee because 80% of your enemies are shooting at you.
The ratio of melee and ranged enemies is absolutely disgusting. The game presents itself as a bloody slasher where you are crushed by a horde of zombies supported by a relatively small number of shooting enemies.
In reality, you see literally 15 gunners, 5 rippers and 3 snipers. It’s literally CoD.
This is the worst with the reapers, you can literally be behind one and your toughness and hp just get melted in like 2 seconds as they shoot through themselves or at a 90 degree angle from where they’re facing
