Arguably the most recognizable astra militarum look and one of the most recognizable looks in WH40k, and we’ve gotten multiple obscure regiments nobody knows about before them, even though they were in the files since the release.
If I didn’t cope and buy other things for vet (vet and zealot get way better cosmetics than the rest) I’d go for it. But I am the person who loves some of those alternate colors of this, specifically the red striped one (sun scorch). The Moebian 133rd camo has such a 90s vibe for me. This is also why I’m tilted that while green/white/city fight blue and others are getting fleshed out in other colors, sun scorch got hit with a disgusting secondary pattern that doesn’t match the old ones in most cases. I have absolutely no faith they’ll go back and fix that.
I still cannot believe that THIS is how they choose to manage the release of cosmetics. Not that I particularly care. But it’s the equivalent of sitting on a big pile of money for literally 3 years.
There is literally no upside to the weekly FOMO shop they seem to adore. Player retention ? What a laugh.
Alas, much like the Krieg set, this isn’t what the actual Cadian art or tabletop models look like.
The set is a weird mash-up of both Kasrkin and basic Shock Trooper stylings from different eras, with a healthy helping of “creativity” on top. This is basically looks like something ChatGPT would hallucinate, with elements from the actual models and art, but distinctly and unmistakably…different.
The cosmetic has Shock Trooper chest armor, but no Cadian sets have ever had an armored collar/gorget.
It has Karskin style vambraces (but bulkier/more trim, and without their armored gloves) and Kasrkin style hip tassets and groin protection.
The shoulder pads look like a strange halfway between the current Shock Trooper and Kasrkin versions, but still tylistically different (particularly with the trim/rolled edge flare) from both the 2003 (which are really big and bulky) and 2022 iterations of each.
Leg armor being mismatched on the legs doesn’t appear on any Cadian models in any edition, while the kneepads and leg armor don’t actually look like the Shock Trooper or Kasrkin equivalents, it’s too curved for Kasrkin (which have flatter/angular panels, a different cosmetic has those legs), and the armor is much larger/more extensive than the small kneepads the newer Shock Troopers get (older ones didn’t have any leg protection).
The helmet is distinctly the old 3rd edition style Forgeworld-kit Hostile Environment type, not the current version helmet/mask.
Between this and the Krieg sets, it’s why I have a hard time believing GW interferes all that much in what FS puts out, if they’re cool with Chinesium like this, then it’s hard to believe that they’re particularly concerned with most of the stuff that gets chalked up to their meddling.
I can’t view the red pants in sun scorch anymore (might have to check an old mod that pulls more item references) but here’s how it would look ‘in the ugly red’. keep in mind the helmet is one I moc’d up with For The Drip.
I like to be right, but I hate that they made this paid. It’s just a stupid visor for 900 aquilas. f off
And the mismatched legs after 3 years of people telling them how ass that looks…
Fatshark owes us an apology, goddamn. They took away a free helmet to sell it back to us… brother are they for real?
Does the language barrier prevent them from seeing how petty this is? The smallest issue in the world and instead of just taking the biggest PR win of the month you chose to remove it and sell it for cash.
The weirdest part is no helmet 100% matches the armour on Penance Cadian top. It’s such a weird thing to get wrong. All items that are trying to match the Cadian 8th’s green and khaki look should be homogenised so they can be mixed and matched.
There definitely is. Delusion of people saying things like this doesn’t stop to amuse me. It’s the classical “here, listen pal, I know how you should run your business” case heh. Yes, FOMA works, and produces more money for the company that practice it. If it’s not “upside” I dunno what then. Would you be allowed to see everything in stock, you would never buy item A and item B - because you would know that item C is “better” (subjectively, for you, you like it more) - so you’ll be using it in your looks exclusively. But if you don’t see the item C, then you’ll first buy A (because it’s still better than B).
Then you’ll see C in the store one day, and will begrudgingly buy it too - because it’s better than A, and who knows when it will be in stock again? Better buy now. This way you never know what else is there, and thus have to choose among what is available now. Sure, some technically savvy people may intall mod and check them all - but that will be absolute minority of players.
If they’re happy with scrabbling for the money of only some of their audience, I guess. But a lot companies seem allergic to goodwill nowadays because their MBAs can’t quantify it.
