BSOD when creating shader cache

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - After Building Shader Cache

Issue Description (Required):

I’ve just downloaded the new update and when I launch the game it will show a bar that stops at 9% when building shader cache, I’ve tried every fix that both Fatshark and Windows suggested but every time I click play on the launcher it starts to build the shader cache then BSOD with CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error and so far Darktide is the only game that I’ve encountered this problem with no other game I’ve tried like GTA, Cyberpunk etc have had this problem

I’ve clean installed my Nvidia driver, deleted the Appdata folder and verified the game files, I’ve reinstalled Microsoft visual C++ and ran a file check with no corrupted files and I know my PC meets the requirements since I have nearly 500 hours in Darktide

Specs are: CPU Intel i7-12700k 3.6GHz 12 core processor
Video Card: Nvidia 4080 Super 16 GB RAM

I don’t know what to do at this point and Darktide was working fine yesterday and I didn’t start having these problems until I downloaded the new update

Update: still having BSOD crash when trying to launch the game but now its “Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap” the Watchdog crash error message was from a ASUS program Armory Crate that tried to install on my computer and installed improperly, I uninstalled it but now I’m still getting BSOD crashes and I’ve tried rolling back my Nvidia Driver that did not work and clean installing the updated version, that has not worked either so I’m still stuck

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

No, I don’t use mods

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

Steam (PC)

Unfortunately, when it comes to BSODs, something else will be at play and the issue likely lies outside of Darktide which is simply highlighting an existing instability. I recommend sharing this on the Microsoft Support discussions with your Windows Event Viewer logs. You could also try the ‘Get Help’ app which allows you to contact Microsoft Support:

I fixed the problem and I’m incredibly mad at Microsoft, before I installed the Machine God update Windows 11 had a minor update that bugged out my audio driver so I installed the repair version of Windows 11 and it put my computer in debug mode and that’s what was interfering with my processor while making a shader cache

I’m curious as exactly how you resolved your BSODs because I have the exact same problem. My BSOD also has the exact same CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error and it only occurs while building the shader cache. My specs are as follows:

Intel(R) Core™ i9-14900KF 3.20 GHz
32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
RTX 4070 Super 12Gb VRAM

This is a fresh install of the game since I just bought the game through Steam two days ago. My initial launch of the game actually went through with a “0xc0000005” error while building the shader cache (still launches the game, I can play it with some stutter). All subsequent attempts to launch the game results in a hard BSOD while building the shader cache. No other game causes BSODs on my system (Helldivers 2, V Rising, Witcher 3, etc.), the computer itself is brand new (4 months old), and I have clean installs of my most recent GPU drivers. So I suspect this is almost definitely a Darktide specific issue.

I should add that I checked to see in msconfig if my PC was in debug mode, and it wasn’t.
