Bolter are breaking the game again

Did not see a bolter but I have to agree with this:

Bolter isnt as good as it was back in the day i bet. It used to be like a rail gun…

I played on release for a lot of hours on vet with the disgusting power sword/bolter combo… when the vet had the talent to get a free reload so you could mag dump twice in a row lol.

Those days will never come again i think… its not just the talents that where nerfed the bolter just didnt seem the same to me at all it felt a lot weaker and since i came back i haven’t used it at all.

My vet uses a combat axe and a pistol now heh and its a lot more fun.

I think they nerfed pinning fire, right? That probably has something to do with it since it used to be kinda disgusting on bolter and the autopistol for that matter.

Jesus, I just returned to game after long time gone and having a blast with bolter actually working as a freaking 40k BOLTER and couldn’t be happier. And here I am on forum, someone already crying that’s something good and fun is too strong because HE doesn’t like it. They finally made it cool and worth of ā€œbolterā€ name and here is some grifter crying already.

Then don’t use it and go out and touch some grass. Jesus Christ… this is riddiculous.

To me, it’s not overpowered

It’s good now. OP? Nah. Only tried it on Vet so far and even full ranged build is really enjoyable to play.

Upsides

  • With the added hitscan size it’s a lot easier to headshot with even if you aren’t running weapon customization mod.
  • Carapace bump is great. It used to be very meh against crushers compared to other weapons, now it’s good. You can kill like 3 with Exa Stance and good aim.
  • Limb bypass makes it really (reeeeeally) reliable to pop shooters with, which was a big frustration before.
  • Last, but not least… Infected damage mod change is a game changer playing on ranged build. You can easily pop that 1-3 infected going your way and continue taking down priority targets without the need to switch out.

Downsides

  • Going full ranged build you are very much dependent on the team’s good will for ammo. New patch did draw back a lot of ammo grabbers so that’s a current minus. In multiple games people were just grabbing everything until I asked them to leave some for me.
  • It can still go haywire sometimes which is kinda infuriating, but thankfully they are working on it.
  • It still has long reloads and swap time making ā€œgetting caught outā€ a big danger. (It’s alright that’s good balance)

I think it has moved from D to B+ as a ranged weapon (A if you can get ammo properly) and it’s easily S tier if you want it as a boss burster (it was already good at dealing damage, but now it’s utility is higher on a melee build).

It feels the same.

Ain’t no way those changes somehow made it competitive with actual top performers. OP you’re hella cooked to make a thread like this.

Getting 0.4 - 0.5 multiplier and easier aiming, i find it doubtful its suddenly giga S tier broken all the sudden. Yeah infested bump is definitely nice but its not exactly the most common enemy type.
Idk perhaps I’m missing something. Got to try it myself when i get the time.

I have touched bolt guns for over 1000 hours and I think this buff is excessive

Can you be specific? Which part?

Exactly this.

The hit scan is too large and it is too easy to do damage even with messy aim.
I think the size of the hit scan should be the same as before because the swing is smaller and the arm no longer blocks the bullet.

I actually put probably most of my grinding in today on the 2 bolters (and a splash of Lucius had to check the artist formerly known as Mk2 out now that my constant squeaking about it received grease). Its weaknesses are just as apparent as ever, but you’re finally able to capitalize on that high damage because your shots go where you aimed them. On guns that take so much of their power from finesse that’s kind of a requirement. Doubly so on the pistol because having a good swap and hipfire are its only positives vs the big version.

The terrible reload and mass target potential keep it from dominating the entire game. But it works exactly in the role it should be, high damage precision tool. Not being precise kinda just made it an odd duckling. Unreliability is the worst feature of a weapon.

yeh i think so but that was after i left. I went during the power sword nerfs which was slightly before that iirc

Stop this … for real now, dont give them ideas.

IT tooks us MONTHS to have a fun patch in helldivers after ā€œā€ā€œbalancingā€ā€œā€
Dont f-ck over darktide in some self percieved hunt for mythical ā€œā€ā€œbalanceā€ā€œā€ when 1st things on mind should be power fantasy and fun.

All that will happen is that another meta will be born, but bolter will suck

Draw Speed and Carapace buff. I think people complaining about it now prove that it was already in a fine place as it was, they just jumped in on the group think of ā€œbolt gun bad.ā€

Everything else that it received I basically consider to be bug fixes lol.

I do think a big problem with Boltgun right now is more on Zealot, that the duelist buff works on ranged weapons paired with Dance of Death. Or maybe that duelist is just such an insanely powerful talent. It is still very strong on Vet but those aspects push it to another level on Zealot (in addition to knife throw canceling the draw time anyways).

There is not a better burst damage ranged weapon in the game for Melee Elites and Bosses.

Middle of a garbage pile? Because to that’s where it deserved to be with how clunky it felt using it. That said it’s a taste thing, I enjoyed pre buff Plasma more than Bolt gun ever.
