I like lights out personally. It turns every crusher into a stealth crusher, keeps you on your toes .
Also, lights out / ventilation purge missions are incredible ping training ![]()
I’m a little surprised more people haven’t figured this out. You can walk right up to the baddies and shake hands with them before they realize you’re there.
I really like it for the atmosphere but there really should be option for more flashlights.
Vermintide 2 also had lanterns/torches for that bit of free light source, which might also be helpful.
I actually like to play the blackout missions, though agree some small tweaks could be made to improve things. And I agree knowing the maps helps, and that it typically keeps the team together (which IMO doesn’t happen enough). I recall the very first mission I did when blackouts came out I had my trauma staff and figured out I could show what was coming up for the team by using my secondary to light the way ahead (no one had flashlights with them).
It’s fun like once, then id rather be seeing the things hitting me from every direction
If only there was some kind of system whereby we could attach flashlights to our guns or something instead of the RNG horsecrap we have now!
In fact, special conditions could then be used to show off and promote the use of a system whereby we could freely tailor our kit to the mission at hand!
Boy howdy, wouldn’t that be fun Fatshark? Do you guys remember that? Fun? The whole bit where your players actually enjoy themselves?
So much yes! Lights for slab shields!!!
To be honest, these are my favorite maps! It’s so much immersive and stressful. I wish there were more.
It was a great condition to sometimes have.
Issue at launch was that you got the same condition everywhere all the time.
No more now.
My first run on the new map of traitor update 1 was an auric black out one.
It was awesome we managed it like that.
People have no taste is all.
To be fair. Those who want a better light should be able to get it, but they also get aggroed instantly 3x base non modified distance and make friendlies in their light also be aggroed as if there was no lights out.
Funny, really, how I’m come to the conclusion that the OPs feelings are pretty much what I feel for high intensity. That repetitive slog against uniform, never-ending hordes of chaff, the tedium of having to do the same thing twice every minute with no break.
Then again I’m not really sure if that’s even intended like that. We all like different things. It’s nice there are choices. ![]()
Firstly: I really like the blackout mode as it’s something different. I like that it’s eerie. I like that it’s all twitch. I like more DemonHosts. It’s fun.
Secondly: Blackout mode is just stupid in the context of the environment. As a strike team, we know EXACTLY what time we’re entering a zone. If it’s dark, why would we go in without a light source?? Of course if this were real, the squad would go in with torches or, more likely, night vision. It’s just stupid. I think FS carried the mine level over from VT2, but just didn’t think through really how an ops mission would be carried out 40,000 years later. Surprising?
Still. I like them. BUT: I think these missions could be changed so that you can have night vision. So:
-
They’re monochrome green/orange missions, with no colour - think when you’re on your last wound as an equivalent; mods excepted. (let users decide on which colour, as I know this might be a colourblind / eyestrain issue?)
-
Have a reduced range on them. Visibility is halved at least.
-
Enemy snipers ALSO have a reduced range. Or just don’t spawn. Because honestly; why would their tech be better since they’re from the empire originally (? nervously asks if this is lore?).
-
Infested+Muties+Dogs get usual sight range (/smell range
). All other elites/trappers/specials get your range of visibility.
I love lights out tbh, it’s a fun twist! It also doesn’t come up all that often, so imo it’s not a big deal to avoid it if you don’t enjoy it
