Blacklist and Disabling Crossplay

i mean, i really don’t care either way lol i just think it’s hilarious, but also cringe, when people seemingly have the most convenient stories to back up their claims. it’s like people arguing on reddit or youtube about batman, and someone’s like, “well that’s not true. i know because batman’s my uncle” lol

I don’t know their code but I would think 99.9% that’s a “no”. My group WILL include crossplay so for you to turn off crossplay you would not be able to play with that group

Edit: in other words, I don’t think this demand for turning off crossplay is very well thought out

My experience with aim assist in every game I have ever played evidently vastly differs from your experience

Well, clicking to apply Rend is encouraged here :joy:

While I don’t know the ins and outs of how cross-play matchmaking functions, would any same-platform strike team not be eligible even if you have cross-play off?

I can see either way being possible (either a crossplay-off pool per platform + the crossplay-on pool) or crossplay-on simply filtering anything from the matchmaking pool that doesn’t match the platform

Yea me either! I’m just trying to use reason and hope the code is similarly thought out? lol🤪

If we are both looking for groups then I can’t understand how they’d prevent you from playing with consoles AND also play with people who want to play with consoles if you have it turned off. My “search function” would contradict yours so I feel like that would lead to you indirectly playing with consoles players if it worked that way.

In other words, how would they prevent you from playing with console players while randomly playing with me?

Separate pools is probably simpler to implement, but I don’t think it’s impossible to have a single pool - if I turn crossplay off join the queue, I get paired up with other same-platform players and the resulting lobby is marked as crossplay-disabled on Platform A and subsequent joiners need to be same platform.

If you have a partially filled strike team with players from platforms A/B/C, it wouldn’t be considered an eligible game for me to join, and the search would go on.

Sorry don’t mean to sound argumentative…just like to reason things out

You have a pretty good idea, but if I understand you correctly then if I joined your lobby randomly then I would have crossplay turned off…which wouldn’t be fair to me or make sense from a design perspective I think? Why would they force people to play in “ crossplay off” lobbies? I don’t mind console players, at least on damnation tbh and having the much larger pool of players is nice.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding you, but I’d think that hypothetical situation causes problems. For instance, say that is how it worked and then we randomly played together and loved it. Decided to play again in a strike team. Is crossplay turned off or on?

Suppose I have friends who are on console and you want to play with my group…how would that work? I feel like just making them completely seperate is simplest and most fair, so I’d tend to believe that’s the better design? No idea lol

Edit: it entirely depends on what “turning off crossplay” does I guess. I’m assuming it turns something off in the search function and I just can’t wrap my head around how they would allow a cross player and non cross player in the same search function.

My thought process is:
You are searching….”only pc players”
I’m searching for “everyone”.
How would FS guarantee that you never accidentally join a console players lobby? I feel like they would have to turn off my potential to join a console players lobby as soon as I get matched with you…and that sounds super complicated, unfair and problematic?

Its not that i hate Console players altho this is my version of being a “physical sports” guy who loves this one thing and F all to everyone/everything else. But when it comes to console players, i find more idiots then PC players because of the long established console community. A lot of them(Not all) think they are king crap because they were there when the “laws were written” on Rust or just any COD lobby. I was too but i didn’t let that crap get to my head and start trolling other people because i don’t like wasting my own time. So seeing console players pop into damnation games when they are low level, i know right away that they are not here to do anything else buy waste my time and ruin my gameplay. I don’t want to be bothered when my time is limited in the adult world. So yea

Thats a fair enough rationale. How would you feel about FS just having a rating system? Like a MmR style where they track stuff (kills, saves, pickups, etc whatever makes sense) and you only play with people around your skill level?

Would you consider to be superior to turning off crossplay?

I will try to explain this from my own experiences (doesn’t mean my experiences are everyone’s experiences)

  • You join a game with randoms
  • You clutch the game 3 times and manage to get about 70% of the mission done. At this point it should be pretty clear you are carrying without even checking the scoreboard
  • Around 80% of the mission you make 1 single mistake; for example, you get trapped
  • You ping yourself 8487509845 times hoping the guy next to you will take 1s to free you but they dont. you die
  • you spend the next 3-5 minutes watching them wiping slowly because you’re no longer there to save them
  • since you are watching them you can tell what the issue is with their gameplay

What i’m trying to say is; your argument that observing people’s gameplay means you are dead therefore you are the bad player of the team is completely wrong.

No worries; for what it’s worth, a number of the things you bring up came up in my mind after I posted, but I didn’t have a chance to update my post

Ye, this is something that came up in my head - if you join a crossplay-disabled lobby, are your settings being honoured or by having crossplay-enabled, are you saying “I’ll take any available lobby”? It would be problematic in the sense that by joining said lobby, your matchmaking pool is now limited. Becomes a bit weirder if the crossplay-disabled player were to leave; does that open the game up to the world again? :person_shrugging:

The most restrictive policy would have to apply - crossplay-disabled is, IMO, more important to honour than crossplay-enabled (since it’s an opt-out), and forcing crossplay-disabled players into a crossplay-enabled lobby would fail to honour that opt-out

It wouldn’t, not without failing to honour the opt-out. That said, today, if you opt out of crossplay and attempt to form a strike team with a friend who has crossplay enabled, can you?

From a technical perspective, I don’t see a reason why it couldn’t be done but… it’s significantly more complicated (and with many more corner cases), than just assigning players to the appropriate matchmaker (Steam-only, WinPC-only, Xbox-only, crossplay) - so long as you can reliably assign players to the correct matchmaker instance, the matchmaker doesn’t need to take on the complexity - it has a pool of players to select from, with far fewer constraints*

So, it’s far more likely that there’s a player pool for each platform, along with a common pool for crossplay.

*The only other constraints that spring to mind right now would be geolocation and block lists, but those would apply to any matchmaking implementation.

Yea I agree with you. Not sure how COD or d4 or whatever handle it but it sounds really complicated lol

I would much rather they develop a ranking system vs closing off crossplay in any capacity though. The problem always seems to be playing with people well below your skill level and a ranking system would directly address that and turning off crossplay only indirectly addresses it and not to a complete extent

Ranking system would be excellent!

Absolute BS, here you are again making up stories. 1, maybe 2 agreed with you and you were bargaining and begging for random stranger’s approval. Now it’s “many”? Hardly, just wishful thinking on your part.

When you kept pressing people on it they pointed out how sub-par the controller gameplay was in that vid, some due to controller some to, well you.

And here you are again “big fat nerd bigot” I’m big and I’m a nerd, you got 2/4 right, but you just keep making up facts and insults to see what sticks, you make up scenarios in your head and convince yourself they are real. You absolutely did flip out and pointed out that you were holding back here because it is more heavily moderated.

Once again thank you for your service, providing a video on how bad controllers really are for this game, and all this BEFORE the big AI Director updated.

You most likely could, that dude is just spreading FUD, what he’s saying makes no sense.
If you’re in the available pool of PC players you would be matched up with them, unless FS wen OUT OF IT’S WAY not to do that. which would be very very silly.

You can pretty much ignore this and other posts of his on the subject.

I had 8 people (if I remember correctly) DM me and say you were a jerk and I did good. Plus the 2 who publicly said it…vs 2 or 3 people saying I did bad…on damnation carrying my team LOL

I got all 3 right. I’m not saying I’m good. I’m saying I mgood enough to do damnation and auric. I even did a maelstrom successfully couple nights ago. Just give up.

Also I made it clear that I’m speculating on the matchmaking part. I read COD does it the way I am speculating, which is why I brought it up

8 ppl DMing you…sure THAT happened; priceless!
Dude, begging random internet strangers’ approval for your sub-par gameplay in a sub-par team. It’s really the bargaining part that sealed the deal, “Would yo agreee I’m at least good enough blah blah blah”, then resorting to name calling, tsk tsk.

My dude you and your team did very poorly, BEFORE the big Director Update.
Facetanking your way to a win with a bit of luck is hardly “good enough” then, and certainly not now, sad.

if that’s what you or anyone needs to tell themselves i’m not gonna stop you :ok_woman::rainbow: lol

I’m just gonna stop responding to this guy. Some people you just can’t convince the sky is blue🤷‍♂️
