Don’t forget about the Predator handshake emote.
Nice! I didnt even clock that! We all constantly quote Predator
I went and did some pocket math and found the point of comparison useful.
To illustrate, since HD2’s release date, here’s the rough approximation of how much you’d have to pay to get all the content released, minus the base game cost naturally:
HD2: 1000 SC per Warbond, about $10 per set unless you just play a bunch and accumulate SC. There will be six Warbonds in a week, five of them paid.
FINAL CONTENT COST: $0-$50
Fatshark: 9 cosmetics rotations, roughly 2300 Aquilas for an individual skin, call it about 3.5k for everything since there’s constant ‘lesser’ rotations for the non-setpiece bits and prices aren’t consistent. 4 skins every release, so about 12000 every release, give or take the repeats and previously acquired cosmetics. Aquilas cost $30 for 7000 at the largest bundle. You’ll need to buy about 15 Aquila bundles to pay things off. I’m gonna heavily undercut that under the assumption that the individual bits are common repeats you’d already have.
FINAL CONTENT COST: AT LEAST $400
Might I remind you that while HD2 is charging for actual weapons and content, Darktide is charging you for outfits.
Sooo the CEO steps down. The Paradox CEO steps out (known for their MTX shennanigans).
And whoop warbonds imemdiately plummet in value per SC:
They really didnt wait very long to start fccking the players eh:
2 less primaries
1 less armor
1 less cape
1 less banner
bunch of recolors and a title as replacements
That’ll be 1K SC
TBF the new warbond includes unique effects for the armors (a request for the past few) and seems to be more on-theme.
It’s still less for the same cost. If FS were to do the same we’d say “oh great, instad of just fixing the issue you reduced the content and thus jacked up the price indirectly”.
Gotta give sht where sht is due
I think the problem with having 3 primaries in war bonds previously is that usually 2 / 3 of those kind of just sucked. I think they are still planning on fixing the primaries overall but this definetly feels like them just trying things out to see what people say / react to as well as seeing if they can get higher quality stuff.
If i get 1 primary that is great and 1 secondary that is great I’m not really upset at the trade of 2 mediocre primaries and one that is just kind of alright.
On the subject of capes and banners i couldn’t care less about them since there is already a ton of options vs having more varied skin options you can actually mix and match such as vehicle skins and drop pod skins.
Didn’t even buy the last warbond because it looked like a resounding “Meh” and nothing really stuck out to me as “I need this now”. Hopefully more time in the oven and focus on less stuff leads to higher quality but i guess we will see.
I think that’s too simplistic of a take. In terms of genuine novelty, this Warbond is at least on par with the others, if not above, even though the number of separate stuffs is lower. As mentioned, previous Warbonds offered little in unique additions or mechanics, whereas this one is at least adding more than any previous ones. Like I said before, if we just make it about the “number” of stuff rather than what it actually adds that’s novel and new, then I think we’re missing some of the picture.
Also, we can afford to be far more lenient with this than anything Darktide related, as this is effectively free if you want it to be.
Very true, 500hrs in I’ve already got more than 4k super credits just by playing, that’s almost enough to buy 5 warbonds…meanwhile more than 2000hrs in darktide I’ve already paid triple the games initial price for stupid skins
The main attraction for most people is the weapons. We got at least one pretty unique weapon in every Warbond, sometimes more, previously. This time there are 0 unique weapons. The novelty is far lower imo.
They should’ve kept it at 3 different primaries so the value is the same and just release it slower. Because Steeled Veterans and Cutting Edge also have unique armor passives (unique at the time for S Vets), and also provide a selection of unique and fun weapons to play with.
I think people kind of default to thinking “more weapons=good” if they don’t think about it that deeply, but as we can see presently, more does not necessarily equal better. We have loads of weapons of all kinds and a good 50%, maybe more, of them are largely unused. I don’t think adding another 3 to that will do much to please anyone in the long term once the dopamine hit of “ooh new shiny object” has come and gone. That’s why I’d rather they limit it but make it distinct. I still think this Liberator variant is functionally distinct. I know it’s a derivative of a pre-existing weapon but its function, at least judging by the way they explain it, is different from anything in the game currently, even if it’s a conventional ballistic firearm. Which, by the way, most present and future weapons will most likely be, that’s just the baseline tech of the setting.
Then there’s the whole rest of the Warbond that features new types of stuff. In any case, in a perfect world I’m sure we would all want every Warbond crammed the coolest and most amazing stuff, but I don’t know how realistic of an expectation. Again, this content is effectively free with the option to pay for it to save time. This is not a bad deal for free content even though “more” would be nice in any given situation ever.
Knight SMG and the Redeemer. Arguably Defender and Pummeler.
I don’t really consider skins that will only look good on a small percentage of the planets to be very interesting.
I would consider it more realistic, again if they spent more time making it. Even 2 primaries would be nice, especially as someone who doesn’t care about all the cosmetic stuff it doesn’t offer anytning substantial to me.
I mean the secondary shogun is unique and I’m probably going to use it a lot.
The Jungle Carbine if it’s good I’ll probably mess around with.
Throwing knives are likely going to be pretty niche.
The booster actually sounds really good and something I actually want.
They might go back to 3 primaries and 1 secondary but I think the reaction to the last warbond is making them go “ok something isn’t working and we need to change things up”.
Personally on the cosmetic front I would mind more pelican, hellpod, and vehicle skins. You can only pick 1 armor, cape, and helmet so having more options for personalization is better imo. I think this would also be dependent on what the rebalance for primary weapons looks like.
Knight maybe, it’ll boil down to the handling differences between the two but as mentioned, a limited number of people have access to it. The Redeemer is a sidearm with limited ammo, range and accuracy. The Defender and Pummeler are slow and punchier, the only similarity would be tight handling.
They’ve pretty much said that explicitly if I’m not mistaken. Even if this Warbond comes out and is somehow underwhelming, I’d expect to see them acknowledge that if that is the message generally espoused by the community. They’ve been good about acknowledging their mistakes so far.
There’s still the issue of if someone asks me, “Which warbond should I get?” In absolutely no world would I recommend the Jungle one. If the booster is that good someone else will use it. If they want good weapons, Steeled Vets and Cutting Edge offer that as well as unique armor passives. Cosmetics for non player things have the issue of only looking good on specific planet types.
If you’re looking forward to it awesome, but I can’t help feeling that it’s incredibly lame.
Fair enough fella but ultimately that’s a “to each their own” kind of thing. We’ll have to agree to disagree I’ve been waiting to flex my biceps on people since day one.
I think that’s a fair assessment.
One nice thing is that the warbond isn’t going anywhere so if you do change your mind you can still pick it up.
I’m probably going to wait for a YouTube review from Swany or someone but might also just grab it because of the predator theming.
(Tagging @Rocker_Fox because I can’t reply to 2 people at once)
If you are only in it for the cosmetics sure than it’s a great deal. I specifically didn’t mention it having only 2 armor sets instead of 3 because I think they’re unique enough to warrant there not being as many. And because they’re probably some of if not the coolest warbknd armor sets. Additionally, Hellpod and Exosuit skins are cool.
Personally I don’t like Pelican skins, I kind of wished it would always remain black and yellow but if you do like it that’s another plus.
So yeah if you already have a favorite weapon you don’t plan on switching and are in it more for the cosmetics (or maybe that sweet looking booster) than I think it’s the best one so far. But the value isn’t there for me.
