Been playing Helldivers 2 recently and

Can’t wait to get teamkilled by cognitively challenged people from around the world. A truly human experience.

I don’t get it either.

Besides, hell divers 2 is awful. It plays like a mid level game from the xbox 360/PS3 era and the progression system is terrible.
It seems to get praises for being less predatory than Ubisoft or electronic arts games. That is a low bar, crap is still crap.

Have you forgotten which Forum you’re on? Most of my IRL friends who’ve previously played Darktide stopped playing it because of its progression system.

Same… especially for bile titan and railgun… I did not find the right point to shoot at it.

Game is far from awful. However, it is less stressful than in Darktide. The movements also change.
The fact the game is in TPS also change a lot of things.

At the end, I really like helldivers cause of these points:

  • easy to start a quick mission. You don’t need 30 minutes to play this game
  • game mechanisms are not punishing the player
  • enemies are same at every difficulty level
  • fun game

What I don’t like:

  • no loadout…
  • several weapons are clearly bad at higher difficulties…
  • several stratagems are really mandatory at higher difficulties
=> these 2 points lead to the fact you tend to play always with same tools at higher difficulty levels
  • no community (a discord server doesn’t make a community)
  • no stressful fight as we can see in darktide

I will say, there are occasions where missions in HD 2 on Helldive are absoloutely FUBAR from the start, and this is when HD 2 is at it’s best. They are unfortunately few and far between, but scrambling to get coordinated after a bad drop and having that chaos follow you through a whole map is very tense and fun.

I will also disagree with other people from earlier and say that the game is very pretty, although that’s somewhat planet dependent. A huge part of this is the skybox and lighting looking phenomenal.

I would not call HD 2 a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. But it certainly could use some improvements (I know balance is a big issue but for me it’s more that all the mission types are incredibly bland and boring. New big mission on Merida is a nice exception, but it’s locked behind a special event and will move out of rotation afterwards which is really dumb).

Only reason "DT pop has ‘tanked since helldivers release’ " is because there is a large populace of gamers that just hop on trends and have no care of an IPs Lore nor anything; play, milk the game a bit, stream it and leave it for another “new shiny game” all the while Ogryn Latrine spray all over the game with their supposed entitled opinions – nobody seems grateful anymore for a game nor its gradual fruition of development. I for one still stand and die on the hill of how amazing the game has become since release and it is the first of many Warhammer 40,000 games where I felt 100% immersed into the universe! I went from the ground up in the game, then learned some builds, became successful in Auric Damnation sessions with some really amazing players (some even impressed by me even in situations of saves). Just as well yes im an elder WH40K fanatic and I came from that far back to being introduced to 2nd Edition tabletop.

I think if you ask most of the people are, at least most that I talk to and whom on this I share their opinions on, is that while there is a lot of really, really great stuff in Darktide it does not live up to it’s potential. Most of us wouldn’t have played 10s, 100s or 1000+ hours if we didn’t love at least some parts of the game.

It’s a passion for the setting and game, and a disappointment at missed opportunities, that creates the “”“entitlement.”“”

If you don’t get whats fun about HD2 you should know these are the magicka devs. It’s really just third person magicka with (more) guns.
The gameplay comparison to DT was always off, the games are being compared due to the business model and progression structures mostly (and the fact they’re both co-op)

I miss magicka so much

Games don’t hold populations that reward players time with a slap in the face.

Well, I started thread to highlight the point that one game was fun, and the other insulted my time and slapped me in the face as reward.

Games are supposed to be fun, first and foremost, that is why they are games. They are not meant to be stressful full time jobs, fighting RNG just to get a blessing combination you can use or want.

And even though my HD2 game is borked and I haven;t been able to play it for weeks, it is still more enjoyable than DT.

I stand with you on passion, and I believe there is so much in the works that the devs are handling… it reminds me how like idk how to do all the code and ways to make the game (even though i tried my hand at 3d art/animation before) so I show alot of appreciation. I have had to come from the count your blessings pov bc I been through times in my life where I didn’t have nor afford anything like these games or technology that is accessible at fingertips, within reach even when earning an income. I see that this game will have so much more development come to fruition by December 2024. Reminds me too that with Games Workshop overseeing everything created by FS is Lore Accurate, it takes time for everything to get all thumbs up. Theres alot of competition to meet deadlines by September 2024 because Mechwarrior 5 Clans also comes out by then, so in order to really keep things flowing, Fatshark needs to roll out the biggest bestest content between June to October. That means in those next few months, 3 major “patches” (which imo it is something starting to remind me more of “Seasons”) – if people would see it that way-- especially when they are now introducing events (Decollation Crusade) and potential for events every two months seems to be good-- if FS rolls out 3 major patches adding content of major improvements, new missions, stages, weapons, more improved upon penances, the crafting system revamped, and possibly introduce a 5th archetype/class, seems like we can say there is much that will be awesome.

That reminded me how in the Enclavum Baross mission when the Valkyries fly over with an air strike, I thought “that would be brilliant to be added as a strategic item or talent”

Seeing a wall of text immediately activates “TL;DR” brain; mind breaking up those posts into paragraphs, mate?

No???

I said hell divers 2 progression system is terrible. That is not defending or ignoring darktides problems…

Why do you think that?

Your other points weren’t really worth responding to, so I focused on the one point that was debatable.

The progression system in Helldivers 2 requires you to simply play the game. I already saved up enough SC for the next 2 Warbonds just from playing the game CASUALLY, meanwhile Darktide’s progression system is just a kick in the groin for all players… both old and new.
