Super Mario is casting racial stereotypes against italians; with the whole plumber bit. Pong is two large rectangles left and right doing a tug of war over the smaller square.
Personally I don’t really care that much about the Sony thing. I’ve been using the same throw away email amd fake birthday since I had to make a Mojang account to play Minecraft. The country exclusion thing is obviously big, but I don’t think this controversy started because of that. I think it’s something that people added to their grievances after they learned about it.
Game would be better without it, obviously, but I feel mostly apathetic about.
However since my pc is broken and I am waiting for new parts, you could technically say I am talking an active part in “protesting.” But last I checked steam charts the player counts really haven’t changed much.
And yeah - it’s gotten to be quite the complex point of contention. Lots of niches to find yourself disagreeing in.
My personal remaining question is: since SONY intended for the PSN to be required from the start, and AH knew (Pilsteadt tweet), but only temporarily made the linking skippable, how was the game legitimately sold in countries that cannot create a PSN account for 3 months straight?
AH’s responses thus far have been great, there’s an acknowledgement of an array of diverse problems raised around the PSN issue, empathy and understanding with the customer, recognition of customer actions in regards to reviews, directions to action for users to take, frustration and legit regret for the situation, and action being attempted on AH’s part. Even if it’s all smoke and mirrors, it reads well.
If Fatshark put a quarter the effort into this sort of thing when Darktide had problems, this game would be in far better shape with a far better reputation.
Ultimately I think if the PSN thing had just been more consistently mentioned and raised since launch, as opposed to just dropped after being off the radar for months, that this likely would have been a non-issue. It’s the way Sony hamfisted this and the post-facto changes to page text and national sales availability that pisses people off (and rightfully so).
Now I know! Iv been wondering where its from and I am genuinely surprised! I thought it was Rik Mayall in Bottom or something similar. I feel complete.
I tend to find answers to mysteries only lead to more mysteries to be answered. Imma bout to ramble some quasai-philosophical shtuff here so bare with me
I was genuinely surprised at the source. I even initially doubted it and thought it was another meme. I craved more context like an Ad-Mech craves the certainty of steel!
Someone posted a link to the original and gave a timestamp and I watched a few mins on either side of the meme soundbyte and now have more context, I can infer somewhat that its a public talk/sermon of some kind, its about religion and about how closely people follow the tenents of it, and so from this Iv made a whole swathe of assumptions about why he is there, the kind of people he is talking to, the kind of life he as led that brought him to that point etc.
These are ofc just assumptions from my personal bias.
But I also have more questions! I question my assumptions. I want to know if my assumptions are right and even if they are, what does that mean about me?! I also wonder how it blew up as memes do, and yes I know memes like this are common but it still makes me wonder at the beautiful chaotic nature of humanity.
So yeah, the mystery answered simply leads me further down a path of not really understanding both myself and humanity at large and thinking about how strange it all is and how its out of my grasp!
