Beyond logic and direction for the gear in game (I know “perfect” gets thrown around a lot but the stat bar system sucks combined with other random elements)
A prestige system would be nice or even something to do similar to chaos wastes.
I just find the overall progression for example to be really lacking especially with how many bricks you end up with from crafting or even Normal balance changes.
Having something akin to the incarnon weapons from warframe would be cool to enhance existing weapons such as the ability to temporarily overcharge a las gun or activate a special mode for a warp staff.
I usually imagine that however your individual helldiver looks, they’re just one member of a batch of identically dressed guys (maybe they went through the same training program and thus get the same uniforms and loadout) getting sent to the mission zone that day and the destroyer just has a whole bunch of other units of helldivers in the cooler ready to go to account for any changes the player makes to their character between missions.
I think I’m seeing some of you guys in the Subreddit of HellDivers 2 because even in other games Fatshark can’t escape criticism for the pearl clutching incident, lack of communication, and overall dire state of player base.
The recent patch for HD2 did NOT go over well with the community at large and it has triggered discord mod (omegalul) and game dev alike.
So I gave HD2 a third try. The game’s DEFINITELY got issues, but once I embraced the chaos (and found a few teams worth my time) it’s been fun.
The key troublesome bit? The “teams” bit. Playing HD2 solo is a boring experience. But playing with others requires… well, others. And here the game is rather pathetic, in that it offers a really stupid matchmaking system.
I can sort of understand mixing people of various levels to spread the firepower, that’s fine, but linking up people from EU with people from Asia? That’s a recipe for disaster with the P2P architecture. It’s buggy, disconnects often, and there’s bound to be communication issues.
If someone has a few friends they want to play with? Absolutely worth it. If you don’t? Get ready for a world of hurt.
Also, the balance is completely out of whack. A single bile spewers (those big green bugs) will one-shot kill players, and take like 3/4ths of machine ammo to take down. If you have a whole team to take one down - no problem. And that’s at lvl 7. Chargers are also annoying as frick - no wonder why everyone’s running with railguns to take 'em from the front. I guess at lvl 10 I can try and use the flamethrower (new meta?) since it ignores armour…
And I cannot fathom why the devs would have everyone do the same unfreeze animatinon when joining other people. To say it’s janky is an understatement of the year.
Oh, and “joining other people”… the number of times I’ve had unavailable or full lobbies is probably higher than the number of games I was actually able to join.
Servers which can scale up by bandwidth, storage, processing power in short period of time, which is possible in many platforms like MS Azure.
For example if there is sudden influx of users…
There is alot of desync. I can move but my team mates are static, or vice versa I’m stuck and few secs later it is in sync again. Few network disconnection messages too.
They didn’t consider cone intensity. For example if you’re in middle of it’s spit attack you’d expect to take more damage, but you’re still taking same lethal damage just by being hit on the edge of the spit cone.
Few times a whole horde spawns 10 metres in front of you, so you see them actually appear from thin air surrounding you.
If you or anyone else has questions regarding holidays in general, or about Sweden in particular, please do not hesitate to ask me. I am a Swede.
I can say this, though: I worked as a chef for 7 years before switching careers during Covid, and during that time, I had around 8 weeks of semesters in total.
That’s how it is in low-wage jobs. Taking weeks off drains your money account and you are always understaffed in the restaurant business so if I am gone for 4 weeks there are no replacement to fill in for me.
Even though I went to school to become a chef (and met my wife there), the pay is horrible, but it wasn’t about the pay, but the love for cooking and the fun I had with the boys/gals at work.
My point is that most people I know, including colleagues, former coworkers, and relatives, have never taken a two-month semester, let alone done it together and week after week.
At my current job, I will finally have my “god given right” of 4 weeks of semester this year, but they will be spaced out from April to September and not concurrently (is that the right word???).
I skimmed the thread, so I could have missed the conversation, but there is nothing odd about Helldives lore.
Whereas Darktide is an individual hero power fantasy, Helldivers is a Starship Troopers (the book) fantasy.
Every Helldiver is put into cryosleep and then brought in as needed 1-200 years later. This means that when you die ingame, that diver is actually dead, and another diver take their place.
While we can change the voice in customization, it makes the most sense to use random because, as in Starship Troopers (the book), Super Earth have no concern about what you have between your legs as long as you’re handing out LIBER-TEA to the enemy scum.
So; Darktide = pure power fantasy, Helldivers = Starship Troopers (the book) expendable no name/no face bodies “born” from the industrial meat grinder.
This is what so odd, power fantasy where you are playing as an ex-prisoner, using weapon was scraped by ogryn and being called reject vs game where you are expendable but can use mechs, turrets, air strikes, wear cool armor (for free), all kinds of heavy weapons, upgrade your ship. Like despite your playable dummy dies in HD2 it works better as a power fantasy and at some point feels more warhammer-ish. It’s like 4 scions squad or something.
In the Starship Troopers novel, the faceless troopers had power armor similar to the Helldivers 2 armor and seen in the game Starship Troopers: Extermination, as well as superior weaponry.
We’re talking about Super Earth, not some backwater WH40k dung hole.
I’m going to avoid talking politics, but in real life, military also use advanced weaponry from guns to air carriers, nukes and drones.
Every soldier in the army have their equipment and just as in fiction every real soldier is expandable.
Just not on the same scale of course.
We use cutting-edge equipment because that is how we defeat the enemy. Even with Mechs, airstrikes, and atom bombs, we still bleed through Divers faster than I can eat a chocolate bar, in stark contrast to Quorin here in Darktide, who slashes through a horde of Ogryns, Poxwalkers, and specials with a boot knife effortsly.
If you were a writer at Fatshark and told me that “Quorin actually is a meta human bordering on a super serum soldier” I’d totally believe you.
Makes no sense that we are supposed “rejects” since Quorin by himself is as strong as 4-8 Helldivers put together and would be invaluable as a military officer.
In Darktide Difficulty 3, I was capable of soloing the whole match.
In Helldivers 2 Difficulty 3, I was screaming and crying during the Extraction… because my squad (except for me) got disconnected the moment that I started said Extraction.
Edit: I fixed some of my grammar and also made it more readable.
And we have defeated Nurgle monstrosities that should turn us into glue just by us looking at them.
Bitten and clawed by Poxwalkers who carry every disease known and unknown to man. Taken full forced hammer strikes to the head by Crushers. Getting pounded into the ground by Muties.
In a group of four, we defeated Wolfers’ strongest lieutenants. Need I go on?
We accomplished all of this while carrying 3 grenades, a boot knife, and a 6 (5) shooter.
Yeah that’s what i mean the ammount of power we have in DT doesn’t match with theme. To have an ability to cause so much destruction i would expect to play as someone who has bionics, genetic enhancements, cool tech like helemets with augurs and other benefits that comes with working for inquisition, like xeno tech.
If you would say we are gonna fight against militarum regiment playing as rejects my assupmtion will be that DT is a survival horror with stealth elements or something. I have a cognetive dissonance between lore and power level in DT.
Ngl, it was pretty funny to see, both people losing their mind over the nerfs and the dev/mod rising to it I’ve never been one to get upset over nerfs, so seeing people collectively lose it over them is an interesting experience
I actually joined on the very day that the nerfs were implemented, so I never got to understand what changed to make the entire subreddit catch fire like it did
It was just extremely reliable for dealing with armored targets. In many cases, I don’t think you even needed to use unsafe mode.
The Arrowhead CEO put it well when describing some of the intent of the change, where unsafe mode takes the weapon from good to GOAT (with added risk).
Everyone faces the same challenges with similar gear and survival chances in DT. In HD2 if a high level comes in it’s pretty noticeable when the railguns and 500kg bombs drop and they know exactly what to do while everyone else is having fun struggling to learn how to take out a minor robot base and dropping air strikes on each other.
Wow an actual intelligent comment from someone with a proper perspective. HD2 is so overrated. The main reason why HD2 is popular is because it’s easy for idiots to play while they are hittin their bongs. HD2 progressing and crafting? It’s a joke… The game is fun, but it’s no shining example.
