Backend error: Couldn't connect

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - On Launch

Issue Description (Required):

Haven’t been able to play since the 9th of December. Was playing just fine for a while solo. Then, I closed the game for dinner, booted it up again to play with a friend, and then suddenly, had issues trying to connect to each other’s games. I decided to reboot the game and since then, haven’t been able to get pass the “Signing in” phase of the loading screen main menu and it kicks me out with “Backend error: Couldn’t connect”.

Gave it about a week and still no fix. Having similar issues on some steam games as well, but my internet works just fine as I’m able to play online on many games, including on steam.

launcher log:

Let me know if you need the particular day when I first couldn’t connect to anyone. This current 12–15 console log is just my usual attempt to login+ failure from the main menu.

Thanks @Kowloon, the logs shows a connection issue occurring between Steam and our backend. As you’re experiencing similar issues in other games, I suspect the issue is either network or Steam client related.

Please try the following:

  • Ensure you have latest Windows updates installed
  • Ensure you have latest Steam client updates installed
  • Log out of Steam entirely, restart your PC and sign back in

Failing this, please run through our general connectivity error solutions, here:
