You are allowed to be downed.
You are not allowed to die.
And even if they change it to ânot allowed to be downedâ, people will start leaving on getting low health making the situation even more dire.
Thatâs very primitive thinking, that by bringing even more punishment you will solve problems created by it in the first place.
We had some xy level tourist who queued up into our game. He kept throwing nâŚwords to show how serious he was about completing the 5 auric missions title or whatever else he was trying to unlock. We left him behind after the mission was completed. Almost instantly I saw more âfriendlyâ n-words in the hub chat. He was attempting to rally more support to get the achievement. I think just before we rolled into another mission, someone told him to seek help in real life. I love the Internet.
To be fair, this is true regardless, weâre talking about a coop videogame, nobody is looking at anyone elseâs titles or virtual wall of e-trophies and standing impressed.
The problem here isnât really the ease, itâs the unworkability of the achievement. Through absolutely terrible tactics (fell to the ground->nobody wants to/canât get you up->leave the match->progress saved), we get the easiest achievement, since fixing it, like most things, is beyond the fat sharksâ ability.
Therefore, in my opinion, the best way is time. For example, complete 1000 gold kill missions. Kill 1 million enemies in gold missions.
And then you have the title âGold Captainâ hanging over your head and everyone knows that YOU have completed 1000 gold assassination missions. DONE! Not left the match and entered another game, and so on round and round 10 times until there are 5 pieces. Try playing 1000 games, yes, yes, it takes a lot of time, not 1 evening with a beer.
And take out that stupid âDO NOT DIEâ thing. Whatâs that? I CANâT DIE FOR THE EMPEROR? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? ARE YOU A HERETIC OR A COWARD? Well, itâs two sides of the same coin. And watching me fight alone, while my team stands in the corner, afraid to make a move, thatâs DISGUSTING!
That doesnât happen.
yeah-yeah, if you say so, buddy.
So end the save scumming. If a player goes down and exits the game it should consider them dead.
âKill X amount of enemies on Auric Maelstromâ - this would be the only task I can think of that canât be gamed.
Surivivng x amount of games without dying is just downright stupid anyway as all it shows is that you got lucky with x amount of games with great teammates in a row.
Does this title live rent-free in your mind?
More than that, thereâs so many ways to get it. Someone who got carried (or not, makes no difference really) in a team of friends and someone who did it by carrying others in pub both get the same thing, the former just likely gets it faster than the latter.
Ofc the â50 wins without dyingâ doesnât essentially change that. But while it does make it more grindy - which Iâm not opposed to, considering it is a legendary title -, it also makes it more fair. Someone who has that title is far more likely to be a good player than someone who doesnât.
But ultimately this problem exists in every game. Even in MMOâs the best rewards are always in raids and to do them you need a whole team of fantastic organized people. Ofc itâs not always possible to be carried there so itâs at least likely the people who have that gear are also good players on their own. But itâs no guarantee, since even the best player in the world canât participate without those networks and a lot of time to dedicate into them.
But the rarity in Darktide really is an odd thing right now. Be it cosmetics or titles, thereâs plenty of stuff thatâs low rarity but take a lot more effort to get than many of the legendaries. That said, Iâd rather they focus their efforts on the game itself rather than updating the billion penances and random rewards to reflect their value in rarity.
Ah yes, yet another penance that encourges trash behavior, just like Behind Enemy Lines.
Auric should be locked behind some requirement tho, like completing all vanila maps on Damnation.
good point

Auric Storm Survivors in a nutshell
The only solution is to add a line of code:
if player âquitâ â mission = âfailedâ (only for the player that quits)
so no more quits
Youâd run into the issue of not really being able to differentiate between players who quit and players who disconnected or crashed.
You can kill your process in a variety of ways that will seem like a crash to the game. You can also pull your plug. So no matter what checks you build in, it will still be abusable (or alternatively itâll punish players who legitimately just DC or crash)
The only solution is to not design stupid penances like this. I said it in a different thread too, but it wouldâve taken them 2 minutes of actually thinking about it to understand how these penances will be cheesed
Idk It was ez to get but itâs annoying when ppl DC under games and a bot takes itâs place.
When ppl have it then at least I know the person playing wonât leave as soon as they get downed.
People played kinda stupid in the begining, donât know if it was the ppl coming back and being rusty AF at the game or non-auric players trying to get penances.
They should made it âplay 100 or 1000 games of auric damnation maelstromâ then players would try to finish the match
You know there are way more ways to close a game than just âquitâ?
If you are advising to punish those who crashed or received a server error as well - not cool ![]()
if the game crashes often, is another problem, that should be solved before putting penances that requires ânot being downedâ
