Honestly post patch 13 I’m finding them more viable than they were before, but that’s 1) me running thammer zealot so the shotgun is for horde thinning and emergency buckshot to bombers and such, and 2) me not getting to simply pull out a bolter and delete the entire enemy group, and 3) only running Heresy pre-patch and succeeding on basic Damnation post-patch.
They’re a useful secondary for me, I’ve been running the Kantrael one but am trying to upgrade and Aggripina for the slug special instead. Will see how that turns out.
Even so the ammo economy sucks hard and I spend half the time reloading and eating up ammo packs en masse.
It’s fun if you are willing to blast at mixed hordes with drago breath ammo and Fury going for bleed, but bleed doesn’t seem to stack and just refreshes the existing DoT, so damage isn’t amazing.
I’ve parked my shotguns for now. It currently doesn’t feel viable to use them.
I was a shotgun main player previously on both vet and zealot. Loved both Agri and kant (lawbringer, huh, what is it good for? ).
I just feel the ammo pinch has swung it too far out of favour. Respectfully, pre patch 13 I think most people would say it needed a bit more ammo reserve, esp on zealot. And instead, it’s gotten worse as pickups are fewer and farther between.
IDK genuinely what the thought process was ftom fs on this one. I suspect there was none. Anyway, I’ve moved to the revolver for a bit to see that out; maybe try an autogun too.
Live and learn, as they say.
Sure!
I went with Maniac, since berserkers are annoying and have lots of HP!
U could go with Infested and Unarmoured aswell, but since you kill them fast enough i stayed with Maniac.
NOTE: I have this shotgun for months now. SInce the new Patch i havent tried it and i could roll it somewhat.
If you take it on Vet, take the “Deadshot” Skill. i used it all the time beofre, since it super good on slow firing Weapons for the Crit Chance. Its better on these slower firing due to Stamina Consumption!
The other thing is, the stagger/ Damage blessing stayed the same on shotgun 20%. I highly recommend it! However you could use the Cleave on crit aswell as an alternative. I never felt the impact that much unlike Stagger/ damage!
Crit chance coul be 5% rolled. Or you take Unarmoured and Maniac, but take Maniac! With Deadshot its up to 37% Crit Chance!
Also, since the Patch you can actually have 30% reload on Elite/ Specialist kill and the Deadshot skill togehter. I ran 20% reload flat before. Now you can have all 3 together. 20% alone was fine for me. Now i would use 30% and Deadshot. Or if you go for Specific SHotgun Build you could use all of them. New is the Rending talents also. Man this should be incredible if you have all… ^^
Rending on crit, rending 15% flat, reload speed and Deadhsot, should be a buster Build!
Heres some old footage bfore the new Patch! Its ot perfect, id did it for a Guy that was aksing for Vet builds. Now the Dmagae Output should be even better with the new Patch!
Even if you dont kill on first r second shot, the stagger alone is super good Crowd Control and is absolutely worth it. Id say take only one reload, casue the faster you reload, at least i tended to spam my Ammo much more. Its a good all round weapon for all types of enemies AND Hordes. Just take a melee Weapons for Flak enemies and your Good!
PS, take the Shotgun with a single Slug for Special Attack. i think its more worth it due to Sniping potential. Or Dragon Breath so you can Proc your other Blessings from Melee Weapon. At least you could do it!
I desire to signal boost this entire post.
Yes, this is partly due to power creep of the other weapons, mob HP and class changes. There are simply better options on the table atm and the ammo reserve situation was only made worse by these issues. It takes way too many shots to kill at short range. Arm shots doing less damage are still a thing…Hopefully the weapon changes patch is going to fix this.
