Are shotguns good these days?

Inf ammo builds were the goat in Vermintide 2. One of the greatest fun in the Tide games to be “fixed” by “balance patches”, along with Sienna endless Burning Head combo and ult spam builds for all the classes.

Shotgun on Vet is Amazing wiht the right Blessings!

Show me please.

To me it seems whatever I try, Shotgun is absolute garbage, thanks the the buffed health pools and the tight ammo economy. Spending three+ shells on an Elite, and two+ on a Special just hurts.

Two for specials is a great result, it’s just about ammo. Either way ammo should stay limmited if thing is gonna oneshoting everything.

I have these two almost indentical on vet and zealot, 1 perk is bricked on both but seems no realy difference for regular shots. Depends on range it takes 1 or 2 headshots for most specials and elites (without any kind of buffs from ultimates). Mauler takes 3 bodyshots, mute like 4 headshots, reaper - 3 headshots. Deadshot helps on vet.

It’s wrong to think of the agripinaa as a shotgun that can load slugs as an alternate fire. It’s more like a quickdraw sniper rifle that can follow up with shotgun shells if you need to.

I’ve personally ran kantrael shotgun almost exclusively with my zealot. The scattershot blessing(rank3) giving 50 % crit rate has honestly been surprisingly effective when going for full crit zealot build.
Been trying to combine it with flechette blessing for some extra bleed but so far no luck with crafting -.-.

Still the ammo economy just sucks and it still baffles me the reserves did not get any kind of an buff this patch. Revolver is probably a better pick if you just want instant draw deletion.

It’s a shame because buffed scattershot + manstopper has some real potential to make lawbringer special shot relevant, but unfortunately that gun has neither the ammo nor the special shot base damage to ever consider shooting it into hordes.

IMO, it’s not that shotguns are “weak”, moreso that many other classes and weapons have powercreeped above them in many ways. Having thoroughly tested every flavour of shotgun so far, I think the Kantrael is my absolute favourite for the simple fact that it provides a lot of utility outside of being a shotgun. It provides a balance of mixed horde utility and DPS when needed, and compliments a mainly-melee build very well.

Personally, I run stealth build with throwing knife and heavy sword on my Zealot so quick delete isn’t too much of a problem for me. Using shotgun seem to waste me more time than just one shot them with knife or an overhead.

I’d rather run Bolter if I’m worry about crusher patrol or Headhunter since it eat flak and shooter enemy for lunch with longer range, better ammo effiency and less reload.

It’s kinda weird when a pump action shotgun seem to have comparable DPS to a semi-auto rifle even at point blank(inb4 they nerf Headhunter instead)

Used to run the instaload shotgun (lawbringer) and it felt fun to refill and unload while walking out into fire. The ammo and skill changes have really hit the shotgun hard. It needs a full pass from the balance team. The vet tree might need it too.

The emperor bless Darktides crafting system, where you need to spend millions of Ordo to test a weapons Blessing just to maybe find out that it only sounds good on paper.

Scattershot is fun. I just dont have to ammo to use it effectively. Shooting into waves for the extra Crit is eating ammo faster than an Ogryns Achlys. Scattershot and the buffed Full Bore are my favorite Blessings. I tested Scattershot and Flachete, but couldnt see any major benefit from the extra Bleeds. (That playstyle also leads to rather salty mates, that get feisty when they check how much ammo you vacuum.)

The Ammo situation is just unbelievably bad with Shotungs. Getting seven shells from a small bag instead of getting a room filled with specials worth of ammo on a Headhunter is awful. Ammo scarcity is fine IF every weapon plays by the same rules. Right now, that is just not the case.

Where is my shotgun wielding Catachan jungle fighter build, Fatshark >:[

Ill be honest, i always ran shotguns more for the love of the weapon then any kind of meta or real “Meta” of it…not that i think they have ever been “meta” but to me personally the damage seems in a better place but the ammo is…not great. So it depends on your useage? Is the shotgun your support weapon to your melee vet/zealot? Its solid. Is your shotgun gonna be your main weapon and your melee is a fallback? You may struggle.

Again purely my opinion.

I managed to craft a Kantrael with +5% Crit, 25% Flak, Scattergun (T4) and Flechette (T2, not sure if they are any higher) on my Zealot, Fury build. It’s a bit…underwhelming as in most cases whatever you hit with bleed and dragon breath shells tends to die to voidstrike and other hard hitters :man_shrugging: Ammo economy is still bad. I should probably test it more, especially when I’m not competing vs builds which just clear whole rooms faster.

It felt occassionally useful, but frankly I switched to a las pistol since. I was getting tired of wasting ammo on trash shooters. It’s a shotgun and it fails to kill them up close without specific blessings. This is rather annoying when you are trying to close the gap and have toconstanly reload, even with Sainted Gunslinger active.

waite, I haven’t played tide in a while, conservative shooter isn’t a thing anymore?

On Damnation they work, as long as they have ammo.

Which means, not really long.

Just take a revolver to take pot-shots at pesky specials and focus on melee.

There is not really that much to be said on that topic IMHO.

No, not really. I mean they got a nerf really early on. They used to restore 2 ammo and proc on every hit within the same attack. Then they went 1 ammo or proccing only once on hit.

Not up to date on the latest changes. Darktide replaced VT2 for me, it’s just much more compelling.

It is incredibly stupid that I can’t punish charging mutants near my face with a shotgun. God forbid a weapon that can deal ranged blows before they charge at you. It’s a fun and interactive experience to sidestep every mutant that charges at you because if you don’t lil Jimmy will scorch your face on fiery ground, or throw you right in the middle of gunners in a ranged-focused game.

Yeah I honestly don’t expect it to be particularly amazing setup to run but something I would still love to try with my playstyle.
Sadly nowadays I just have less and less time to tinker around with builds and crafting rng is what it is.
