897I REALLY want this game to be better, I REALLY want to jump in and sink endless hours into this game. But it REALLY seems like this game is essentially abandonware. I simply do not belive that a studio this size could have THIS MUCH TROUBLE getting the game into a playable state (performance wise) while simultaniuosly putting out more than 2 *new maps after more than 6 months. (Wasn’t the new engine supposed to make it easier to create new levels?)
I had thought pre-release that part of the reason they chose to do a 40k game and limit it to strictly a ‘factory’ level design would be that we got new maps monthly. Though to be fair, they may have released a dozen new maps and I wouldn’t really notice. TBH I am not even sure I have played all the available missions. Because factory tq-158-MR and factory-hs-897-qz don’t really feel any different to me, and since there is no real mission ‘progression’ to speak of how am I supposed to know what I have played and what I haven’t?
BTW WTF IS DAN ABNETT? Does he know you used his name to promote the story for a game that checks notes DOESN’T FKING HAVE ONE?
So I guess this rant brings me back to the OP question, when you gonna drop info on DT2? Cause ain’t NO WAY IN HECK you guys are all in on this one LMAO!!!
To be honest I’m thinkin Dan was brought on to write the lore for where Darktide takes place, similar to George RR Martin with Elden Ring, and not directly writing whatever story they have yet to reveal, but this is just a guess
VT2 happened cause VT1 had not enough system to expand on it, you could introduce new maps and new weapons but it was still very limited, so they made VT2 with more space to add things.
Darktide does not suffer from the same limitation that VT1 did, it’s even more made with updates and content in mind than VT2 was (Returning map assets, Mutations, weapon variants…, in short possibility of making less for more)
This mean that Darktide 2 is not needed.
Cause they are also working on Xbox
He never promoted the story, nor was he linked to it, he made the background of the Moebian domain, the enemy forces and such stuff. as for the story, it was halted back in January, alongside the content, but if you listen to the voice lines you can see that there is one that is starting.
If they did, would you trust them not to screw it up?
To be honest, the game we have now is functionally a beta for the game we’re hoping they’ll make later from the scraps of this one, which was built off the scraps of the Darktide they’d tried to make before this one
I understand what you are saying, but that is also kind of my point. If DT2 isn’t needed then where is the support/content for DT1? Is 10 million sales not enough to justify support for the game outside of maintence mode?
I don’t consider the weapon marks to be new weapons because they are just a different colored shade of dogsht with slightly different stats. Each class has 3-4 ranged and 3-4 melee weapons and thats it.
There are no gameplay changing weapons or gear, it is just a series of +X% to X base stat/damage.
All while relying on a decent RNG roll on your `1-2 new items per hour played’ to even make them worth putting your limited resources into.
I am starting to think that valve nailed the formula 20 years ago with L4D and every so often a new studio tries to “make it better” by changing what made the original so great. Awesome characters with relevent voice lines, REAL mod support, pvp, AND 0 RPG MECHANICS!
Imagine you are thrown into tertia with nothing but a knife (because reject) and had to scavenge weapons from the area you were in. Finding a bolter from a space marine or a plasma gun off of an infantryman. You use what you find and what you like because the Mourningstar isn’t going to issue REAL weapons to convicts serving out their death sentence.
I would have really liked to see the game play out as trying to survive a suicide mission we are forced into everytime we leave the morningstar, rather than playing as human demigods with powers and abilities that need to be loosely synergized with weapon stats to create a ‘meta build’ to play on the hardest difficulty because all your +x% stats have finally stacked up enough that anything less than the hardest difficutly is a walk in the park. Imagine the game with no RNG and static stats on weapons.
Imagine the game where you find what you find and that is it. We would have to ditch the OGGY becuase he wouldn’t fit this template, but the way they play in the game as it is, I doubt we would miss them.
But! That is what I think would have made a better game, and not the intended design.
Lost in FS’s flat management style from what I gather. It’s the same management style that Valve uses, and while Valve does produce good games, you might have noticed that Valve is also obscenely unproductive as a game developer despite employing so many, and rarely puts out any game. Fatshark doesn’t have steam as an easy revenue stream, and is beholden to various contracts, so the incredibly slow development style crashes into real practicalities, causing the games to come out too early, unfinished, and unpolished.
Painfully slow development. Important decisions stuck in a bureaucratic committee hellscape. Letting perfect be the enemy of good. No clear cut game blueprint while trying to reinvent the game design wheel. Slow responsiveness to playerbase. Not enough consideration for content production pipeline ease and speed. etc etc
I still think there is a potential for a soft relaunch with Darktide, with red rarity weapons and a rethink of the games systems, plus a lot more content meat on its bones, but this stuff might just be kicking the can down the road in the end if Fatshark doesn’t resolve its production issues.
If I were fatshark I would at least look at the content pipeline speed, because if the game was being drenched in new content it would soften the pain points of a lot of other issues.
Maybe they are aware of these issues and are working on it so that things get much better after the xbox launch? (inhales massive lungful of copium)
Not from what I’ve heard. I’ve heard they still use the same from when they were a smaller company during Vt1/2 days. “Doesn’t scale”
If what you heard is the case and they have done it and very recently, then good, maybe we will see some improvements. But if it’s a while back, then whatever they tried switching to doesn’t seem to have changed the situation.
Ah idk about valve, tbh I haven’t been into valve games in a long time. Maybe that switch is why there are some rumours and announcements of new valve games these days
