I ALT F4’d to this post.
Yeah they should change the penance to “kill x amount of enemies in auric maelstrom missions”. That would be the best solution imo
Yes there is. The game saves your character state when you leave the game and if the same person rejoins they are spawned in in the same state they left (eg downed). What is the problem with that solution I’m not seeing?
RIP
Thats… actually not a bad solution!
Alt-F4 has for a long time been the only respite for those of us who aren’t able to just ignore kids / partners / front door / bladder. It’s my equivalent of “let a bot take over for a minute while I sort this thing out”. Quite why FS have never implemented this functionality in game when they’ve got adequate bots is a mystery to me; it would seem simple, no?
What if a player (still playing) picks up your character while you’re out of the game? Does that in-game avatar collapse on the players return?
I guess the system would still be open to abuse if that person had a teammate and there will always be a way to abuse a system.
I still think the system as it is now is fine and that the main cause of this issue is the penances.
Good question. Probably yes which feels a bit odd but I think it’s a reasonable price to pay to avoid cheese.
To reiterate this is only for the same person rejoining. Anyone new joining after a previous disconnect/leave would use the current system.
The problem isn’t detecting willful disconnect vs accidental disconnect/crash because there’s really no way to do that anyway. No matter what checks they implement, people can just plug pull worst case. Happens in other games all the time.
The proper solution to this would be making sure that if your game disconnects, the game actually saves the state you were in. DC while downed? You load back in downed. It’s only fair that way and doesn’t needlessly punish actual DCs, while it would absolutely put a stop to people DCing intentionally to get extra lives.
As for the penance progress issue, simply don’t design penances around easily cheesable things like this. Like seriously man, everyone could’ve told them that these penances would cause this issue within 2 minutes of actually thinking about it.

I guess in this case, it should immediately be replaced with a non-downed bot and when you return, if you were downed, you’re downed again.
That could be a solution that works especially while the bots are mostly useless but if and hopefully when they improve bots that may really ruin some runs. Still I cant think of a better solution than your proposal to this, other than leaving it the way it is and sorting it so people dont feel the need to alt-f4 and rejoin.
Maybe make it so rejoining saves the penance state better? idk how that would work behind the scenes or if its feasible. It would mean someone who failed a penance couldnt just alt-f4 and rejoin to remove the fail.
