Kick players who have been disconnected for too long

I’m really sick of someone alt+f4’ing and being stuck with a bot for the rest of the mission. It’s not fun to be permanently down a player because someone didn’t have the courtesy to click “leave mission” before ragequitting.

Kick players who have been disconnected from the game for more than 60 seconds so that others can join.

But what about when it takes me longer than 60 seconds to reconnect?

It does do that, takes like 5 mins though

This is already a feature.

It would be a lot more useful if we considered alt+f4 as a rage quit and not save their spot.

If they crash, sure save a spot for a short while, but if they actively quit why are we waiting?

I don’t believe that the game can magically knows who pressed ALT+F4 and who had crashed

Games can definitely tell

Alt+f4 isn’t some magical kill button. Ever notice how programs can ignore it and ask if you want to save your work before exiting?

The operating system sends a WM_CLOSE or WM_QUIT message to the game’s window and it can be handled gracefully.

The game can’t tell the difference between a crash and a manual close if you use something like Task Manager or SuperF4 to instantly force-close the game.

The crash dialog does not pop up if you alt+f4, but it does if you force close it.

I think in this context that doesn’t matter though. For the purpose of exploits, sure this is relevant. If someone ragequits he just wants out, he won’t bother doing something that takes more steps to hide that he’s quitting manually (i’m sure there’s edge case exceptions but eh). Making it so alt+f4 instantly forfeits your right to rejoin is completely fine and will reduce the amount of annoyance ragequitters cause for the team

What if you get thrown out of bounds (but live) in a public game with 2 of your friends?

optimally an unstuck command (it’s been needed since launch) but failing that, task manager kill the process

Sorry, but I believe this guy is true…

Why?
Cause sometimes we don’t get a crash log when the game crash. And everytimes we had to alt+F4 the game has not created a crash log.

But where I agree is that they COULD check it. Will they do it?

Obviously no. Because the fix for this situation is really simple. Make the bot appears in same state of the player it replaces. No incitation to ALT+F4, and noone that join a mission to the end screen (cause it would appear instantly even if the guy that dies want to leave).

So, no… I am sorry. I won’t agree with the author, cause I think this is a bad solution.
I really wish the bots should reappear in same state of the player they replace. So if the player was down, they reappear in down state. They were dead, they reappear tied. Problem solved.

Totally valid concern. An unstuck command would be helpful. There would need to have some sanity checking so it’s not abused, but as an add-on, would be great if it automagically creates a bug report for the devs detailing where they are stuck and maybe some basic info on how it came to be.

It would be nice if hitting alt+f4 did a pop-up are you sure thing, and give a ‘I’m stuck’ as an option. Maybe Quit and exit match, I’m Stuck, Cancel.

^ It’s amazing to me that in the year of the Emprah 2025 the myth that Alt-F4 is a force quit still persists.

You don’t need to be a programmer to understand this little article:

I am sure they can track it.

I just say that:

  • they won’t do it
  • and anyways, it is a bad solution

Best solution is:

  1. Make the bot reappears in same state of the player that has left
  2. Reduce the window to reconnect

I had to do alt+f4 lot of times… cause a chaos spawn put you in the floor or the walls… cause you land in a part of the map where you are not dead, on a floor, but no way to go, cause you’re stuck a door refuse to open… etc.

Game can’t tell if genuine internet issue or you just pulled ethernet cable either.

Try to see it from different angle. If a person rage quits, probably the kind of person who lacked motivation anyway, so might as well leave then perhaps replacement player fresh and willing. Force someone to stay who doesn’t want to - Their motivation is much lower and detrimental to the team.
