After 300 Hours, Weapon RNG Is Killing Me

This has been discussed a lot before, I know it has been discussed a lot before, but I am making this post in the vain hope someone might hear how frustrating this is at its worst.

I love Darktide. I have loved it and been addicted to it since launch. I have put in over 300 hours and would have put in over a thousand if I hadn’t a job. I 100%'d the achievements within the first year, and I’ve been farming penances, min-maxxing my builds for all four classes, and harassing friends to play until they’re sick of it before me. Then I’ve bought other friends the game to play with them afterwards. But I’ve never been much of a ‘community interaction’ guy, I only just made this forum account because of how infuriating this one thing has been to me over every other issue, as it is the one and only thing the devs have refused to change, despite every other update addressing every major issue in the game.

My favorite class is Veteran. I like shooting things.

The gun I enjoy most is the Agripinaa Mk1 Autogun. I knew this within the first 10 hours of play. Its stability, accuracy, and damage balance is most enjoyable to me, personally. Using this gun gives me more dopamine than any other. I have been using it since the very day the game was launched.

I have, since playing my 300+ hours, most of which as Veteran, found and/or purchased 370-380 stats for almost every weapon available. Plasma guns (hate them, personally), Devil’s Claw swords (hate them), axes (don’t use them), chainsword (I use that one), daggers (took forever but I got them), etc etc. I have a veritable horde of weapons I never use that have 370+ stats.

Now here’s the kicker:
-I check Brunt’s armory every day I play, between EVERY SINGLE MISSION, for EVERY HOUR, and he has NEVER ONCE sold a Agripinaa Mk1 with stats over 366.
-I check Sire Melk every week, and he has NEVER ONCE sold an Agripinaa Mk1 with stats over 356, nor any with tier 4 blessings. I haven’t even missed one due to not having enough contract currency- I’ve kept 4k in reserve JUST IN CASE he has one. He just never does.
-I have spent over 500,000 ORDO DOCKETS playing the RNG Brunt slot machine trying to generate a Mk1 that even scratches 370, not just the miracle 380, which I have DOZENS of weapons with 380 I do not care for and likely will never use. Today Brunt is selling another 380 plasma gun. I have three already.
-I have been stuck using a poorly balanced 366 stat Autogun with tier 3 blessings since the first 6 months of the game. The weapon reworks, the balancing, I have come back to play for all of it and I still am perpetually cucked out of the one weapon I want most.

I get it. Maybe I’m just super unlucky. RNGesus has cursed me to never have the one thing I want to use. For the most part, I can get the weapons I want with decent stats and upgrade them accordingly for the other classes. But oh my god this is infuriating. I just spent another 250k ordo dockets and I got a Mk1 with 353 as the highest stat option. This is ludicrous.

So, this is all to say:
I will accept a ludicrous 100+ hour grind option if I can just upgrade a gun’s raw stats to maximum, or trade other players, or get the Omnissiah to melt down five other sacrificial 380 stat plasma guns into the one I want, or just have SOME mechanic to GUARANTEE the ability to have a gun I like at max stats, or even just CLOSE to max stats. Even if I have to pull teeth and grind for a month to do it, I would like a feeling of PROGRESS and not gambler’s fallacy, eternally opening Brunt’s lootbox like a Counter-Strike 2 player chasing the 0.0001% odds of receiving a $3,000 virtual knife.

Please add some way to guarantee the player the ability to get what they want if they try, I am BEGGING to just be able to max out my favorite weapon, I hate this, it’s infuriating.

@brosgw do your thing

You are hardly alone. This mechanic is awful to the core and while we’re allegedly getting an itemization rework, Fatshark refuses to give any details about it, so I’m personally starting to think it’ll end up being ‘pay money for red weapons’ or some other equally evil development.

I love the agripinna mk I also! I have a great one on zealot and it’s my go to!

the “crafting and itemization” update should have a dev blog to outline the coming changes (we don’t even know when as they have disconnected it from the next update) but alas, FS is too busy milking whales to bother with it

Thanks as always @Ragnarok101

Welcome to the club. Where we extol the primary gameplay of darktide and disparage the supplementary systems.

Bonus RNG nightmare:

Before someone mentions it, yes I have committed to grinding plasteel/diamantine to upgrade autoguns for tier 4 blessings. Usually I get tier 3. When I do get tier 4, it’s always the same 3 tier 4 blessings I have already received (Riposte, Hit and Run, and Raking Fire). So I waste all that crafting material on a gun I’ll never use for ANOTHER RNG gamble that does not adequately reward the hours of grinding it took to get those crafting materials.

Play for another 300 to get a mountain of resources and get the mod that auto-buys stuff from brunt, and weapon RNG won’t mean anything anymore.

Yeah I’ve been stockpiling plasteel because a) I’m one of those people who suddenly started getting memory crashes from extended inventory actions and b) its just a total waste of mental energy and time even doing the pointless enterprise when you do have developer screenshot-tier materials. its even more boring then sifting through all the items, scrapping all the trash, it is literally all not fun. all I do is ‘play the game’, shoot idols and grab stuff in my path. what was the idea behind making items almost worthless without insane lottery luck? may as well just ignore any interaction beyond 2 blessing slots and just play the game.

well done player retention I guess? can you fix the memory leak thing too?

“just keep playing for another 300 hours”

Grut, didn’t think about that one. :man_facepalming:

It’s easy bro, just play for 1000 hours total and install some third party mods and THEN you can start having fun mixing up your builds.
