A possible suggestion regarding dodge recovery

The dodge nerf seems to be a highly discussed topic lately, one which I have a few opinions on, of course. I’ll skip that part, since I’m sure you’ve heard it all before and don’t want to hear me moan and groan about it. What I want to suggest may hopefully satisfy at least a few of the people who have strong opinions on the nerf, for or against it.

A trait could be added to the Curio pool that decreases dodge recovery time by up to 15%(?) or so, allowing up to a 45%(?) dodge recovery decrease. This would directly compete with increased max health/toughness/stamina, promoting a high-risk, high reward sort of play. This would open up another avenue of builds that players could possibly create. If someone wanted to be mobile and light, they could give up their tankiness. If they felt fine with their build, then they don’t need to change a thing.

For those of you who feel like the dodge nerf feels fine, then you can be blessed with more sustain. For those of you who want to be dodge-monkeys, then there ya go.

Or Fatshark could simply revert the dodge nerf. Then, perhaps they can revert all of the DT melee changes since basically all of them suck.

Whilst I think your idea has good intentions I don’t think this would satisfy those of us asking FS to reconsider the dodge and movement nerfs. Between this and the half baked Toughness mechanic with chip damage thrown in, a lot of people who love the 'Tide games are getting seriously hacked off, and I for one am not gonna give up so easily.

Your suggestion would just force us to surrender to even more RNG just because of our playstyle, and levelling would still absolutely suck.

It reminds me a lot of when Winds of Magic came out and Fatshark’s pig-headedness turned off a lot of players myself included. I loved VT2 to bits but basically stopped playing for 2 years I was so frustrated.

Darktide needs a lot of work but taking a more positive and fun oriented approach to balancing would go a long way to improving the game.

It’s not about making the game easier it’s actually the opposite - you can make the game director as unfair as you like but if the movement and combat mechanics are solid - you will always have the tools to succeed and options to have fun - which is more or less what VT1 and 2 achieved (with some mistakes along the way).

If FS get this right people like us will still be playing Darktide for years to come and the folks that don’t care or are telling us to adapt will be long-gone anyway.

Oh, don’t get me wrong! I agree with you. I would vastly prefer it if they reverted back to the good, old combat. I’ve just moved on to my bargaining phase. I hope that at least something will let me finally feel good about the melee system, even if it means giving up something in exchange.
