If they bring back explosion, I hope it’s only a chance to explode rather than 100% explode, since I liked the old sizzle animation.
Maybe FS were too lazy and split one skill into smite and surge, that why they always share same behavior .
So my question is, does surge staff secondary attack always get 10% damage from Enfeeble, if yes, this is worth to spend a talent point on it if you are main surge staff.

I’d much rather have the previous patch where you could simply not pick EP keystone and enjoy Surge Staff than the weapon doing on average half the damage it did because it’s hitting an arm or leg. This situation is a lot worse.
Big diff between a weapon being unintentionally overtuned if you pick a specific keystone and a weapon constantly being awful no matter what you do with it, because of an unintended smite change. Now my fav weapon is basically a meme, kinda killed my motivation to play the game as a whole until they fix it.
And no, I never touched EP surge staff, and I don’t care about it, I too wanted it gone to stop hearing people complain about it.
Really hope this gets fixed sooner rather than later. Surge was my go-to ever since the game released.
Enfeeble does not apply to surge as far as I understand. I even test the damage of surge with the skill applied and not, and it never changed the damage.
Smite (blitz) and Staff-bound Smite targeting random bodyparts clearly are not intended…
Critical chance is already RNG, now the randomized hit location makes them both worse.
Especially when looking back to when Smite (blitz) was buffed, so changing the attacks to random bodyparts doesn’t sound very intended functionality.
And now the clear sign of this effect is that enemies pop random bodypart when killed by Staff-bound Smite, which is the easiest to spot, before it would gib the enemy. Not seen this properly with the blitz tho.

This is inexcusable, to be honest. It was bad enough when they “buffed” the Surge staff with atrocious, barely-tested VFX that, when using it, turned the screen into a wobbly mess of crackling sparkles that made it look like your character was perpetually standing near a gas leak inside a rave with strobe lighting.
I honestly couldn’t figure out why the thing seemed so absolutely atrocious in current use until I came here and found so many other people having the same problem; using it now makes it feel like it barely tickles anything. This can’t possibly be how it’s INTENDED to work; if it is, it has no reason to exist. A weapon that you literally cannot aim at specific body parts now has a roulette wheel of hit locations, and ALL FOUR LIMBS count as possible hit locations? You’re guaranteed to be doing pitiful damage almost all the time, and the CC effect is so much worse than Smite’s there’s no reason to justify Surge’s existence.
Please dear god stop breaking this staff. It needs fixed sooner rather than later. It’s completely unusable now.
RealAsianRobot did an excellent video about it. It’s honestly sad how pathetically atrocious the staff is now. You might as well give us a staff that tickles things with feathers.

I honestly can’t fathom how FS can consistently destroy weapons and talents by making apparently random changes to see what happens. It’s like a kid in a nuclear facility. Let’s see what this button does. Why don’t you guys contract out for someone to ‘balance’ your game. We’re all tired of your illogical roller coaster of nerf-buff-nerf and leaving weapons like the Surge Staff right now useless. Is anyone home?
If you needed any more proof that this ‘patch’ was actually just reverting to a pre-Patch 13 fork. They realized they screwed up a bunch of things like the Surge bug, but threw the baby out with the bathwater and now it’s worse than pre-13. We really need the devs to just acknowledge they reverted to a prior fork.
FS, just undo the latest changes you made to the Surge Staff and Psyker talents. So what if the Staff was ‘bugged’? It was fun to play. Why do you remove fun from this game? You guys seem to enjoy chronically crippling Psykers and Vets for some strange reason.
Wouldn’t the surge staff have a slower RoF if that was the case?
Given today’s hotfix specified
- Surge staff on-kill gore effects are no longer always triggered when killing an enemy - now also limbs and heads may be dismembered instead of the whole torso.
I think they either retconned the bug, or introduced it intentionally.
Fatshark post under the discussion about today’s hotfix says they’re fixing the the surge and exhilarating takedown next.
