2026 Darktide Wishlist

Hello all! I’m having a good time with DT at the moment. And despite all the angst over the Hive Scum decision, I AM having a lot of fun with the class (although I do want to acknowledge that it’s stepping into a playstyle that the used to be in the vet’s wheelhouse).

Anyway, that all said, I wanted write out what I’d love to see for DT over the next year:

  1. Enable solo-mode. Bonus points for having the game actually use your other characters for bots (you know, like in Vermintide 2….). Allow building custom missions (for solo or party finder) with modifiers of your choice. Honestly, just being able to go into a mission solo and mess around / experiment would be really great.
  2. New Geographic Region + Set of Maps. Would love to see a fully new region to explore with a different look and feel. Ideally we’d have a set of three “maps” released over the year to explore. Maps that add onto to the new battlefield location would be good too.
  3. Havoc Improvements - Remove de-ranking (maybe just drop to level 30 when a season resets?) and add quick-play options. Remove the requirement to use party finder (that can stay an option if people want to use it).
  4. New weapons - especially some more ranged options for the Vet, more Ogryn weapons.
  5. Weapon Rebalance - DS and plasma need tuning down, autoguns and lasguns need some buffs outside of really specific builds. Flame staff tune down, etc.
  6. Expand penances - need more penance main track rewards given all the new penances that were added. Obviously adding DLC penances complicates things - maybe those need to be kept on their own track?
  7. Commissary improvements - need some new sets of stuff in the commissary - especially for the DLC classes.
  8. Rework the FOMO / MTX / Premium cosmetic shop - just open up the whole catalog. Rotate items that are on sale for a discount instead of rotating what’s available.
  9. Expand + unify modifier pools across game-modes. So many interesting modifiers are locked behind havoc, or maelstrom, or mortis trial game modes or events. Coming up with a system for using different amounts of these modifiers on normal maps depending on the difficulty level would be great to keep the gameplay variety up.
  10. Expand pool of secondary missions/objectives and give real reasons to go after them. Tie into events more directly.
  11. Always have an event running (or maybe 1-2 week gaps between them). Always provide a final event reward that is Aquillas. Add event modifiers/effects as a possible mutator / modifier for normal missions even after the event is over.
  12. Last big wish - turn Mortis Trials into a proper roguelike / Chaos Waste mode. Seems like it was going in that direction and got cut short. Suggesting that mortis trials be re-worked instead of adding yet more modes. Although if it needed to be a new mode entirely, that’s fine.

What else would you add? What of the list above is most important to you?

I’d like to expand on this to say that the whole ranking up thing in the first place is a pile of ass and needs to be completely gutted. Ranking up Weaves in VT2 was enough of a slog that I didn’t give the mode a proper chance and I don’t really give a damn about Havoc in DT either.

A proper rework:

  • There are four difficulty levels - each equivalent to H10, H20, H30, and H40 respectively.
  • You always have a difficulty unlocked once you clear the previous difficulty.
  • Everything else can stay pretty much the same. I don’t think anybody actually enjoys the Havoc grind, and if they do they’re lying through their teeth about it.

The natural difficulty of the gamemode should filter out the weak, not the grind.

That pretty much covers it, for new things.

My main request would be to have a game mode that is more challenging enemies, less enemy spam. The original design and intent of Darktide was to explore the more human-side of the 40k universe; but when scrawny looking dudes are killing clown cars of crushes, it’s kinda stupid.

The other thing that’s come up, more body types, faces, perhaps even voices for characters. Customization to make big muscly dudes, and more unique body types. In the 40k art, there’s so many more bodies and builds.

The biggest thing I want to see next year is more dedication to balance. This game is in dire need of balance right now - classes, talents, weapons, blessings, pretty much all aspects. And NOT balance based on Havok difficulty.

Almost every hotfix should have a few balance changes included. I think Fatshark even stated their intention to do something to this effect recently (smaller but more frequent balance passes), but it hasn’t been happening yet.

My rashuns need a little spice.

The British colonized half the world to get spices they never use in their own food.

FS spends precious dev time on modifiers they use once or only in certain game modes not everyone wants to play.

Just make it so Havoc rewards unlocked on H30. H31-41 are just for fun. V2 Legend-Cata was like this and it was completely fine. Bad and casual players will not expirience fomo, no artificial gatekeeping will needed.

The same with regular mode probably. Aurics/Maelstrom are just for fun.

I personaly think there should be some rewards for the best players, but i gladly will trade not having it for there will be less leavers, complete deadweighters and less toxicity in the end.

I’ve barely touched Havoc. I played up to about rank 20 when it first came out and just got tired of dealing with the manual match making / party finder and moved on. I tried a few times subsequently but after spending 15 minutes getting kicked out of lobbies and realizing I could’ve been halfway through a normal mission I just gave up in frustration. It’s so dumb.

yeah havoc in its current state is a complete slog, i would like to play it but the systems for it are so repetitive i just end up just playing a different game instead

Edit: If I were to wish for anything, it would be for whichever team member is preventing Solo Mode in Darktide to be moved to another project. I don’t want him or her fired, becauase that’s suuuuper overkill, but just… put them on a team for a new project that wouldn’t benefit from a solo mode, maybe a battle royale game or whatever’s popular with the PvP crowd these days. Something that will keep them away from us nasty solo players they hate so much.

  1. Stop using Reddit feedback as a benchmark for balancing the game

I think my number one wish would be that the Enemy Attack Animations matched the Enemy Attack Calculations. I’m by no means an elite player but play to my difficulty level, and I swear that 80% of the time I get doornailed is because a Crusher/Poxburster/Mauler/Trapper has a teleporting attack that hits me despite my being well away from it (the enemy and frequency does vary from patch to patch). I don’t mind failing due to my own errors, but when it seems you’ve dodged an attack that then downs you, it can be a bit annoying (I mean, that’s Darktide, but still…).

As an unrealistic (and deeply personal) wish, I would also like it if there were the option to setup games with mixy-matchy difficulty and modifiers (e.g. select difficulty, then select several modifiers from all the unbalanced nonesense - no ammo, infinite spawning plussed up mutants, being stalked by an unkillable-but-temporarily-defeatable captain, whatever) and then try it out (not even to have any rewards - it could be a ration-induced fever dream or whatever - but just for the heck of it). Probably unworkable, but gosh it would be something I’d like.

A good Zealot rework.

I hate the repeated reworking of talent trees rather than making more regular smaller changes, but for the class that’s received the least positive attention was supposed to be the main focus of the rework update when it was first announced, the Zealot’s rework was kinda garbage.

2/3 grenade options just deprive your teammates of resources for very little gain still. Way too many talents still have dodge activation or just annoying activations like the three backstab talents with 2 being added for some reason. And there’s a lot of junk talents that it would be a net positive to just delete at this point because they’re effectively point taxes.

Yeah, it’s pretty much what you do in VT2. There’s even mods to for managing bot loadouts.

It’s a good wishlist and I hope they don’t go too light on the non-premium-class content next year

My only wish for this game since release is the addition of a solo mode with bots. That’s it. I love the game but I stopped playing because I have no friends to play with and because I was tired of speedrunners who don’t care about collectibles.

Character customization update, more normal hair, face, another body type. Update female body for all armor. Update all parody armor to canonical warhammer 40k miniatures and arts.

We have perfect gameplay, music, enemy and location, but ugly, parody main charters disign as if they weren’t successful cosplayers. Only ogrines best.

That one I’m quite against.

Mortis should remain mechanically as is, it’s just the broad narrative that ought to be changed out, just use the same concept that Back to Ubersreik did (ie: Magic Duel between Oleysha and a Rotblood sorcerer that happen in a realm of dream or something)

Chaos Waste should be a separate mode.

Yeah this is top of my list. I would like 3x new full size maps in a new and totally different biome (plantlife? Fungi? etc), then another 1 in the glorrianna biome, then another 1 in the trenches then another in hourglass. We’ve been seriously starved of maps and I believe its the biggest contributor to the stale feeling.

Seems like such a small amount of work comparative to the miles we would get out of it. No brainer.

removing derank would be ideal, but I doubt they would do it so I suggest they compromise and allow infinite attempts per week to complete a mission equal to or higher than current rank. If you don’t by weekly reset then you lose 1 rank. Essentially remove the spiteful 3 strike nonsense and keep the rest.

Free the modifiers! It is INSANE that they keep all these modifiers out of the game and lump us with f****ing snipers and hounds for eternity.

TBH I totally agree with everything in your post! I’ve never been fussed by solo mode as I can’t comprehend playing alone as being very fun and many of the missions would break unless they chopped the auspex etc, but seeing as many people seem to want it then why not. I’d certainly not prioritise it though.

All balance can wait until we have more maps IMO. Give us content to pass the time whilst they fiddle with balance. i just need more maps so badly lol
