Zealots and Knifes

Look at it this way:

People that want to rush are going to find ways to rush. You can nerf the knife movetech, but then the rushing will just shift to the next best option. Do you keep nerfing until everything is the same? Some people are still going push ahead faster than others will like. In the meantime, you’ve just gutted the play style options available to everyone, the vast majority of which (I feel) are not rushing to a problematic extent or frequency.

Leave more play style options on the table. This is a game, and multiplayer game specifically. Not everyone is going to play the game the way you want them or expect them too. And that’s a good thing IMHO, because it keeps thing varied and unpredictable at times.

The fastest way to kill a game is to make it predictable to the point of being boring. That some people rush and others fall behind is interesting - it adds texture and decisions to the situation in how you respond to it. Players joining auric games at low levels or lower skill adds an extra obstacle to overcome. For every five successful runs that end in a yawn there’s one that goes sideways and it’s exciting.

If you don’t like dealing with the vagaries of pubs, then find a group on discord or something to play with.

here is my idea for a nerf they get to keep their solo powers has long has they are picking up resources like plasteel and diamantine it will refresh the solo ability or something.

Wake me up when NPCs come up with anything else rather than parroting and implying “skill issue” XD

By this stupid logic I can join any of your games and start griefing as much as possible while staying alive (very hard to do it with stealth and knife btw) and it will be clearly be your fault if you go down, right? i CaN pLaY hOw I wAnT gUyS

I don’t see what’s wrong with that. I’m not gonna try to be nice to help you cope. There are some people object your idea in a nice way and based on the logics they provided, I can tell they are pretty smart about the game but they don’t want to clearly say “skill issue”. But I don’t care.

Almost had me in the first half NGL, but then you went and ruined it with this silly blanket nugget.

There’s lower skill but trying and at least put some effort in, and then there’s a hundred hours from being even close to ready for auric or huge raging karkhole and is much worse than a bot.

Just like there are speedy knifers being useful and tying up ranged threats in melee, and there are brainless walking speeding, exhausting liabilities.

Challenge, flavor and texture shouldn’t come from idiotic, selfish teammates who are enabled and encouraged by some questionable mechanics that at least warrant some semi-nuanced discussions or a second glance.

You want texture and flavor? Great, suggest it to FS and we’ll upvote your post(s). We all (well mostly) want a more exciting end-game.

If it’s a yawn 5/6 times, it means the game is not properly balanced and the skill requirement is too low, and due to other various contributing factors.

One could easily turn the “Discord” argument around and find a buddy there to do some 2 player runs, they’re fun too.

In the meantime, might I suggest a croissant or twelve from a good French bakery? Tons of flavors and texture. And butter, lotsa butter.

Stop blaming the class for bad players theres dumbass players in all the classes

To highlight how stupid this thread have gotten: there are people who see what the issue is and try to contibute something on topic and there are brainrotten main characters and goodie-two-shoes boomers who will blame-shift me about complaing a playstyle that is literally detrimental for the intended gameplay.

In other words, I am blamed for wanting the game not to encourage a playstyle it’s literally not intented to have. This is how dumb you are.

You’re right. It was my bad. Have a great day.

A “playstyle it’s literally not intended to have”? You mean Fatshark didn’t mean to make the loner aura or the stealth ability or knifes with faster movement? That was just an accident that they made those things?

What if I go really slow in the level and lag behind because I’m searching every corner for chests? Or what if I start picking up grims (when the norm is for them to be skipped) all the time? Should we do away with all of that?

I played a game last week where a player went down (not disabled, actually down) nine times and had to be rescued about 6 times. They finished the game with 100 ranged kills and TWO melee kills. They effectively never had their melee weapon out and as soon as a horde got close to them they went down.

We didn’t complain. In fact it became a source of pride among the team to see if we could keep this player on their feet and get them to the end of the mission. We almost lost the whole run trying to rescuer them during the finale.

Reality is that there ARE players that are lower skill (just as there are higher skill ones). Sometimes lower level characters are experienced and great, sometimes they are genuinely newer to the game and have a lot to learn. I’m not complaining about this - in fact I’m celebrating it as a means of keeping the gameplay varied. When I QP into a pub
I never know how the run will go - and that’s a good thing IMHO.

It is exactly the major exception of the general rule and Fatshark is known for making bad design and balance decisions in the past.

Unironically you would still be better than a rusher. But I can take your “it is a you problem” stance and blame you for having issues with people picking up grims and not letting loot goblins pLaY hOw tHeY wAnT.

Either way, complaining about bad players in general is just venting and screaming into the void, because they won’t go away whatever you do. However rushers, who are encouraged to keep doing their thing because Zealot + Knife mobility have low skill ceiling and very high autonomy compared to literally anything in the game is entirely on Fatshark. Will nerfs to knives and zealot authomy and mobility completely eradicate rushers? Of course not. Will it help reducing it? Absolutely.

P.S. the narrative you’re pushing is what we call “Soviet Army Syndrome” or “Soviet Army Mentality” in my country. Whenever something bad happened there, people who complained or merely pointed out were immediately blamed for it. It’s exactly what you are doing here and I don’t wish to waste any of my time.

Zealot without combat blade is pretty mediocre tbh. Veterans are unironically better Zealots than Zealots.

No, that would be blaming you for the existence of rushing. I’m not blaming you or others that raise these complaints for the existence of rushing.

My point in all of this is that:

  1. There will always be people that rush or play in a way that’s detrimental to the team objectively or subjectively.

  2. Changing gameplay mechanics to reduce the frequency or opportunity to rush (or other similarly negatively viewed behaviors) reduces gameplay and play style options for everyone else using those tools in more positive ways, and this hurts gameplay variety in the long run.

  3. In my experience, the number of egregious rushers is low (1 in 20 games maybe?) and I haven’t personally felt like it’s been a big impact to my enjoyment of the game when it happens. YMMV of course.

Well there’s the problem innit, that’s not something you should be proud of.
I’ll skip repeating why as it’s been said before.
You should start doing more 2 player runs here and there and be proud of that.

Please enlighten me. I’m actually curious. Why is carrying someone a problem? For all I knew I was playing with a 3-man group of friends and they were trying to drag one of their buddies through a higher difficulty.

You could have asked, right? Instead of “maybe it was this” and “maybe it was that”. Occam’s razor applies here.
3 player groups can easily make private games to “power level” one up, we do.

You can find my “enlightening” explanation on the subject in previous posts, I don’t feel like repeating myself just now.
The TLDR is: it’s shortsighted, self-gratifying, ego-padding, bad for long term health of the game and community.

You both make some good points, and interesting discussion but stuff like this really shines a light on where you’re coming from.

Which is where? I feel like I’m being setup as a villain in this scenario and I’m not at all sure why.
