Year 3 of Ogryn being unable to climb certain height ledges and fences

Issue Type (Required):

Other

Issue Description (Required):

Ogryn can not consistently climb many ledges of certian heights because his vault detection code doesn’t work with his height. Ledges and fences of a certain height will not be vaulted or only vaulted after like 20 attempts because his viewpoint is too tall and doesn’t detect them. Max height may play into this. Didn’t test

Has been 3 years of this and it’s just as annoying as on the day it’s introduced and was first reported

I have even come across mods that attempted to fix this and successfully did so, although only in selfhosted games because the movement is server authorative. The fix is simply extending the range for the vault detection.

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. play a mission with ledges that have a certain height (Chasm Logistratum and Chasm Station have a bunch, those pipe fences)
  2. try to vault with ogryn
  3. can’t because 3 years ago you bungled up the vault detection code and I’ve seen it reported many times since then but it’s still broken

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

PS: It’s suggested in every single thread on this I’ve seen, but no, holding space, letting go of space, spamming space or caressing space when the moon is waxing does not combat this. It’s a detection range issue.

Upping the detection range via mods in clientside games fixes this 100%. I would go in further detail on how the mod achieved that but I don’t know how it works, Claude made it. May this inspire a Fatshark developer to prove AI can’t replace them.

Ah, so it isn’t just my imagination … thanks for confirming it! (And yes, it should be fixed ASAP, like so many little annoying quirks of the base game.)

I’m sadly so used to it by now that I’m almost oblivious but do recall the shere panic when you’re being chased and get stuck on a handrail…no panic can equal that feeling in DT :joy:

It absolutely needs to be fixed. Should be really quick too, as you’ve pointed out.
