Worst melee weapon in the game?

This isn’t accurate. Headshots only affect the direct impact. Make sure you’re hitting the target directly when you test. The only way to get double dot damage is to compare the direct hit target vs the targets affected by AoE.

It may even be workable in Legend to some extent. It’s horrible in cata and above though.

Elven two-handed sword:

  • awkward and clunky animation
  • charging attack is pointless
  • low damage
Somehow the only 2-handed weapon that was missed by that update that reworked 2-handed weaponry.
I pretty much can find utility for any other weapon except this one. Using this weapon will damage both you and your team.

Charging attack it a single target killer with a secondary swipe that hits groups and Im pretty sure that swipe is also ap too. Awkward and clunky for everyone but me it seems XD

So far Iv used it very effectively on champ and below and certainly didnt damage my team but I get thats not the truest test of a weapon. I need to progress to Legend and cata to know more but bots and pubs are far less reliable at those difficulties. Having used all other weapons, the 2h elf sword is my fave. I cant stand other 2h swords and imo they are the clunky ones.

I like it too, but I wouldn’t bring it to a challenge. I think it would be fine after a few tweaks, but in its current state its definitely underperforming.

Then again, I would say the same about the falchion. Still love that weapon but it’s pretty rough to use in a lot of situations.

My least favourite weapon would be the Sienna mace. Don’t enjoy it and it feels terrible to use. If I got to buff one weapon type a bit it would definitely be all the one handed axes. Still like then but the reduced cleave and stagger mechanic totally killed all of them.

I think im alone in finding sienna mace a good weapon, don’t get me wrong flail and crowbill straight up outperform it but i find her swords and the dagger are utter trash, the mace i just spam the same attack pattern against hordes and heavy 1 for elites and it does a fine job.

I play only unchained though so that may explain why i like or dislike certain options.

sienna’s dagger and mace
elf 2hand sword

I see a lot of people replying with Sienna mace, and that is certainly my 2nd pick for the worst weapon spot. But the way I see it, if I was a complete blank character, with no special talents and no special synergy, and had the choice between Sienna mace and warpick, I would still take the mace over the pickaxe. It just feels better to use (lol), faster, better horde clear, still decent at killing armoured elites and kind of okay-ish at killing mixed hordes and some form of crowd control. I would definitely put the mace in a tier just above the pickaxe.

Falchion is also a bit of a meme, but I would also definitely put it in a tier above the pickaxe and the mace. It has actual good dodge, fast attack speed, a reliable way to kill armour, decent horde clear (in comparison to the other weapons mentioned) and it’s mobile. Definitely something that needs buffs, to me it feels really boring to use since it has such a boring attack pattern and impact, they should really bring back the attack pattern from V1, and why the hell does it only have 2 stamina shields when Krubers’ sword has 4?

I don’t have a lot of experience with elf weapons, but elf greatsword could certainly be a contender for a weak weapon spot (not the worst). It feels really slow despite it allegedly being an elegant and well-balanced elf made weapon that is supposed to be faster than it looks, but oh well.

Hammer+Mace & Shield is also something I thought of, but I quickly decided against it. Compared to warpick or mace, it actually has defensive properties like extra block angle, extra stamina, built-in BCR, tank property etc. It’s a lot better at clearing hordes, has good crowd control, good utility and deals with unarmoured stuff quite okay. It’s absolutely terrible at killing armour (pretty sure it has the absolute lowest armour DPS in the game), but that is outweighed by everything else. I definitely think it’s objectively worse than the sword & shield and axe & shield, but not by too much.

I wanted this discussion to be about the objectively worst weapon, without looking at other weapons in that characters loadout or any career specific synergies, so something like the elf 1h axe, while possibly being the worst weapon Kerillian has access to, is still not that bad of a weapon, and if I had the choice between warpick and elf axe, I would absolutely take elf axe over it.
Basically try to imagine a situation where you’re a blank slate and have access to all the weapons. Which weapon would you never take in to a mission? That weapon for me is the warpick, closely followed by Sienna mace. Both of these weapons need some pretty serious buffs to be able to be competitive. Of course, I’m not asking them to be buffed to something like billhook, but 2h hammer or greatsword are weapons that I consider to be very good yet not overpowered. The most important thing to consider is fun as well. Sienna mace and the warpick, in my opinion, are not fun weapons to use, and they should, at the very least, get reworked and buffed so that they’re at least fun to use.

Oh yes, I forgot Kerilian’s longsword.
That weapon is just horrible and awkward, the attacks don’t make any sense as they fill a niche that no one asked for.
First and foremost, no one uses a longsword in an upsweep motion (unless their opponent is open from that angle, but that’s beside the point here). Swords are swung like levers, and like all hand weapons, aided by gravity.
If it absolutely must have a cross-slash, let it be downwards and across, not upwards and across. The charge attack (stab) could either be replaced with Kruber’s executioner sword charge attack (massive downward blow), or maybe even a double slash. Either way, the stab should be replaced with some other charge attack.

When Im swinging my 2h Elf sword, I get in to a rhythm of moving side to side with hordes and get lots of kills. Just had a game on champ with my shade bot that I arm with the 2h and she got almost as many kills and as much dmg as me on salty A+F with crossbow, I was also generally deleting bosses and specials. My Shadebot also survived better than my IBbot with 2h Hammer and my Mercbot with 2h Sword on the few Legend runs I did yesterday, (one of which was successful! )

The charge is one of my fave things about it. You can hold it forever and it has an ap swipe secondary attack that can deal with extra rats surrounding your target.

While I get that it may be less effective in Legendary, Im leaning towards thinking that people just dont know how to use it and have been using it wrong. Its been more than a boon to me and my teams and while it may not be the best elf weapon, Id take it over anything else. I just feel the need to defend it as I think ppl just need to git gud with it QQ :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think there’s absolutely a world where the stab attack can be kept… it just has to actually deal useful damage and not be utterly outclassed by the rest of Kerillian’s arsenal.

Remove the stab?! Stabbing stuff is, like, the basic function of a sword. Stabbing is way more effective than slashing if you want to kill something. They didn’t put points on swords for ornamental reasons, you know…

Rather, I think it should be a point that every single pointy weapon in the game gets the capability to stab (and that it is effective), if we’re talking reworks. For example, it always felt super unnatural to me that the imperial twohanders in Vermintide can’t stab. Those things in real life were used almost like spears for a big part…

Right, but you don’t stab with a longsword like she does. A longsword is so long and heavy that stabbing like she does becomes clumsy, that’s why you impale enemies with a longsword by halfswording. If she wanted to be precise with a stabbing motion using one of those longswords, she would’ve had to hold the blade with one hand, the hilt with her other.

And no, stabbing isn’t the basic function of a sword. Swords come in different shapes and sizes; some are better at stabbing, some better at slashing. Some, like the elven longsword, are made to do both. A good sword can fulfill both roles. It would’ve been interesting if they replaced her stab with something like a mordhau instead, since most of her longswords have crossguards.

Let’s not make historical weapon comparisons, because that is one deep rabbit hole. Literally nothing in the game comports with historical weapons except in a superficial sense.

Regarding Elf Greatsword, it’s moveset is just fine. It simply didn’t make the transition to 2.0 with the increased enemy HP. It doesn’t work well if you try to left click spam but if you add in it’s pushes it makes a good crowd control weapon, while it’s stabs have extra reach and great precision for removing SV from the middle of a horde with well placed headshots. Or it used to. It can’t kill SV anymore, it can’t cleave an entire horde anymore, and it takes 2-3 swings to kill even the cannon fodder. RIP.

Still better then SIenna’s mace IMO. It may have no niche (awkard middle ground between glaive and dual swords), but it works, just slowly. Burning Mace is just slow an unwieldy and painful to use, and doesn’t even have a star feature or two to make up for it.

It’s absolutely correct that combat in Vermintide isn’t realistic, I’m with you on that. And in “reality”, stabbing like K does might indeed be a tad unwieldy. But so is the way she, and the others, do pretty much every attack. Swinging swords (or even crazier: hammers) through multiple enemies alone is pretty dumb in itself, for example. But that’s the way videogames work. And the Warhammer universe in general. It would destroy the game if all combat was “realistic”. The game would end at the first horde, and most likely way before that, even.

And having said that, I think it’s stupid not to use the point of your weapon. From an anatomical - physiological standpoint, stabbing is generally way more damaging than slashing. Much more likely to damage a vital organ. If you accept sweep attacks hitting multiple enemies, and all the other crazy combat moves, the one handed stab is not an unplausible attack at all. The Ü5 must simply superhumanly strong. (Bardin’s weapons would, pretty much without exeption, all be impossible to effectively use in “reality”, for example.) Elven blades could also simply be super light and sharp, or whatever. My point simply is that, even though a lot of the combat is unrealistic, in the context of the Vermintide reality not using pointy weapons for stabbing is even more unrealistic.

probably it was me trying to figure out why I feel that unchained mace is less effective than I remember (I stop playing in August’19 and came back recently)
Reading feels like most of the weapons that in the previous versions were a best choice, now are a kind of a bad one. ex. pick, falchion, double axe

I cant even remember what happened to the mace to make it so awful. I remember using it a fair bit (maybe 1.1, or 1.2 :face_with_raised_eyebrow: ) and it used to clonk CW on the head and was quite good at killing them. Whether this was because everything else sucked against super armour so bad and the mace has been overshadowed by more recent weapons, or it got nerfed somewhere I can’t remember.

My own personal honourable mention for bad weapon is Kruber Mace and Shield. I know it’s simply because I just can’t get used to the swing pattern and the heavy shield slam being H2 or what, but I absolutely suck something awful with it.

The worst of the worst is surely the Sienna’s mace.

1h axes needs a bit of buff at cleave, like could cleave 1 or 2 more than now. And Kerillian’s 1h axe needs buff on the movility. Because, while like all other her weapons does not slows her down, her 1h axe does.

1h/2h swords needs some change. Maybe rework with some of the buff? Kruber and Sienna’s 1h swords heavy really needs a change, imo.

Glaive is overshadowed by Kerillian’s other weapons. It needs some change.

All the shields needs a buff on their mobility. Just like Kerillian’s Spear and Shield does.

Here’s what I’m sure for.

The big balance beta took place soon after you stopped playing. It changed things around a bit. The same goes for WoM and the new mechanic introduced. Since it changed cleave values, dodge effectiveness etc. it also affected most weapons quite a lot.

one thing I noticed is that now I can run a regen necklace on almost any character, while in the past it wasn’t that confortable (for others, I got kicked few times because using it, before I stop playing)
I need to check jsat and others online datasheet, if updated.
