Darktide on the primary monitor, Runescape on the secondary
I’m gonna say I am the opposite of an achievement grinder. My proudest achievement in Darktide is getting the Psyker death-explosion-kill penance on Veteran with the plasmagun lol.
HOWEVER
It’s a fact that some people are motivated by this, and it’s no skin off my nose to make them happy. I think you can read a lot into it, but I’m not about to dive into that rabbit-hole!
I’d say it’s a bummer that we’ve gone from deed-related penances to number-related penances, but then I remember how much of a drag it was to get those and I think it’s probably better if I don’t have to worry about them at all.
I made that post because yes, it was a straight forward penance. But it was a very timeconsuming and selfish one.
Having to kill 3500 Specialists and Elites that you have to wait to get marked by your “Execution Order” was pretty annoying. You had to tell your teammates to not be very good.
Fatshark are notorious for making penances that either are huge grindy time sinks or straight up require you to grief your team to complete. It is there solely to inflate player’s playtime so that they could gather “data” and present it the way that the game is “active and thriving”. Same was with the old Hadron’s casino crafting system.
It’s just one of the many scummy practices and people who think it’s normal are just the same old corpo yesmen. Nothing new, to be honest, it was surprising that they changed the penance that fast, not a year after lmao
Sometimes even i dont know why i play this game, i guess its addiction
But to be honest when i dont have any good game to play with, i return to darktide.
I don’t see why people are mad about pennance requirements being lowered. They’re literally there to incentivize players to grind, their purpose is to be the cheese that gets you on a wheel. If you’ve already gotten the cheese, there’s no reason to be mad others got it easier, especially if it’s cheese that anyone playing regularly would get anyway (as opposed to burning through it in a two-day grind session), cheese that’s all fundamentally a gimmick to keep you playing for something other than the fun factor of the game itself.
I’ve done most of these prior to this change and I’m not bothered.
You play with these often enough you will get them eventually whether you like it or not.
What I am curious about is why these got changed so rapidly but you have penances like the veteran sharpshooter keystone one that has both a very high number AND the condition literally incentivizes you to take a braced autogun and magdump into hordes heads, in other words to do anything but sharpshooting, and its unchanged down to the present moment.
I’ve done some really obnoxious class penances but I’m not touching that one in its current state.
I had already completed most penances at the time. I was grinding thoses penances out so with them out the way i could play the way i wanted. So when they lowered them i was reflecting that i could have been making my janky builds earlier. Hence locked into wasting time.
Honestly, i play this game week in qp because you never know how quick play will shake out.
Yeah, I didn’t get bent out of shape about it (finished all of them well before the 100 games and was going for that so didn’t care to much), but I also understand completely the annoyance when it comes down to it too. I did feel a bit miffed when it was lowered, but at the same time I would have gotten them all through my experimentation regardless (trying so hard to find fun in Arbite, only to find none XD and happily dropping it and the game once I got to 100 to go play Nightreign because that games actually fun AND challenging depending on weapon and effect rolls, while allowing solo play if you get good enough to do it, who could have guess?).
I think the outcry was largely just a product of people doing the keystones ‘from left to right’ and getting salty they got stuck on Execution Order for so long, not realizing that the other two penances take 2 seconds to do, and Execution Order is basically the best all around Keystone you’ll have on 90% of builds, with Forceful being on the other 10%/most of the Lone Wolf Builds. So the amount made total sense, but people be angry about nothing and they got nerfed, and now all the people that grinded them out are mad because the penance that they spent so much time on got reduced for little to no reason (meanwhile Reapers continue to be an obscene number, I do not wish the Reaper grind on anyone…shudders).
Just further divide for little reason made what seems like ‘for fun’ really, and another notch in the ‘Arbite needed more time in the oven’ playbook.
I completed that one before it got nerfed - it did feel like the number was overly large compared to most others, but I honestly didn’t feel bummed that I had gotten it.
If OP is an old man yelling at clouds, I’m kinda with him. I play games because I enjoy them, not for grinding out achievements. Sure, I do enjoy getting achievements, too, but it’s the gameplay loop that makes the 'tide games great.
“It was miserable for me to do these penances with tools that I do not like, therefore everyone should be just as miserable” is what I read from the ones complaining of this change
