Why Vermintide 2 has new maps, but Darktide don't?

My question basically is…

Is FS realy earning money by making new maps for Vermintide 2?

New players come to Vermintide 2, because of new maps?

Players buy new stuff (classes, costumes, etc.) because of new maps?

I don’t understand.

I would like explanations or opinions.

Thanks.

Cause people disregard the maps being added through Expedition.

Well I like Expeditions, but I have preferred new maps.

But I think you didn’t answer my question.

Maybe not, apparently a fairly large part of the dev team stayed on project to support it.

from what an AI search told me V2 has 28 maps and dark tide has 20 and it notes that darktide maps are far larger including multiple paths and large vertical spaces while also requiring generational increases in work to make because of the geometric complexity and need to consider sight lines for ranged combat not just chokes for melee.

so even if V2 has more maps far more work has been spent on darktide maps.

I’ll harp on it again since someone started it, we need a deluge of new maps to make up for the drought. The quality of the post launch maps (minus the half-reused one) was very good, more of those por favor!

Danke

Why is VT2 getting maps, cause the game is mostly finished:

  • you won’t get more careers (much less characters, the equivalent to new classes in DT)
  • New enemies are limited due to the engine limitation (No new faction, might be teased for new Lord/Assassination target tbh)
  • Hasn’t gotten a weapon pack since 2021 (other than part of weapon dlc)

Game is also what 8 years old, and the team that is on it doesn’t need to keep much future proofing (as we had the information that they would keep to VT2 for 5 to 10 years).

Why is DT not getting maps, well seeing as we got maps in Expedition (2 month ago) that you won’t count, and No Man’s land (6 months ago) that some do but other don’t…

In addition, there is quite a not denyable possibility that they’re making a Chaos Waste mode (2nd Hive?), which also would take a lot of the map team works.

what engine limitation?

also lol

this time for sure!

i was one of the people who wanted cw but after mortis and expeditions i hope they dont ever try and just go back to making regular maps more often

Thanks, interesting info.

1- “No man’s land”… is too short.
2- Yeah… lke I said before, I like Expeditions, but I would have preferred NEW MAPS.
3- Chaos Wastes? I wanted it, but now we have the Expeditions.

No more work on Expeditions, Chaos Wastes, or anything else, until we have new maps (IMO).

PS: Thanks for the answer.

Yes… why we got Mortis and Expeditions, instead of Chaos Wastes?

I don’t get it.

there are apparently 2 more expedition maps in the works on top of the one that is being released with skitarii
i really hope they see reason and convert them into regular maps instead, they wont fix this gamemode

making maps for a dead gamemode is really the absolute worst use of the map design teams talent, passion and time

I can’t find it back, but there was a thing where someone from FS mentioned that due to how the engine worked in VT2 it would not be feasible for a new faction to be added (think it was in between the Necro and WP updates)

Well, probably not any time soon though.

I like it.

When I play, usually 2 players join the game.

(Yes 2, no 1 or 3).

For new maps I’d want them to use some of the procedural tricks that they used in expeditions where they have spots on the map that can be switched out with different map chunks.

A core issue that Darktide has always had is that map creation takes Fatshark forever even when they were focused on it.

So it would be really good for Darktide if the new adventure maps had some of that changeability that expeditions has making them more replayable, it would also cause something good to have come from the miss with expeditions.

For example they can have a set of rooms or buildings at one point on the path that are from a random pre built selection. Or they could chunk out entire sections of the map, sometimes a building has collapsed and you need to cross the mounds of rubble, other times the ground has collapsed revealing a cavern you need to go down into to cross. If the system is robust enough it could even have layered tricks like the cavern that is revealed has random ruined ancient buildings in it. They could also do an expanded dynamic version of the open battlefield area in No Mans land, each time you cross it there are different buildings and craters and cover.

The possibilities with this tech could be so good for darktide’s main mode, I rly hope it isnt left to languish.

Because they’re not the linear full length maps players have been asking for since 2023. Granted, maybe the map progression system established in Expeditions can help lay the framework for a fully fleshed out Chaos Wastes mode to be used with the linear maps, but currently it just doesn’t scratch the itch.

Given how unpopular expeditions was, there will be no chaos wastes. No one wants it apparently. Since it’s the same thing but you start with no weapons. Total meme mode.

can’t tell if you’re being tongue in cheek, but i would not be surprised if fatshark execs were getting this exact lesson out of expeditions

now they only have to figure out why “new gamemode” polls so highly on their polls, but people never want “new gamemode” when they made one, even if it has “the most content ever” (we checked with all the devs and the checklist was huge)

yep. every time a new class comes out, there’s a jump in player numbers for the next 2-3 months, then it peters out because no maps are added and people get bored playing the same old missions with the new class.

ideally the new generated terrain system from expeditions could be used in traditional missions, so there’s some different every time, and developing it wasn’t for a mode left pretty much empty.

(It is what I do basically).
