It really confuses me as to why that map takes so damn long to load compared to missions which are magnitudes larger.
Because Fatshark is loading its spyware, AKA anti-cheat, for a PvE four player co-op game. Definitely need that spyware, i mean, anti-cheat for this game.
What if the spyware I mean anti cheat is the reason so many of us can barely even play the content we paid to beta test?
Pretty sure it’s because it’s setting up all the assets and what not. It’s your first load into the game, it has to load all the assets that will be used + profile data + inventory + customization + inventories of the vendors.
And since the Mourning Star is also a player hub, it has to do that for every play (without their vendor inventories of course).
Also, regarding map size, the Mourning Star is actually a lot bigger than you think. The entire outside is also modeled including the space surrounding it, because it servers doubly as the main menu and cutscene space. It’s not as big as the other maps, but it loads the entire chunk of the map at once so you can get the feeling of being in the ship.
Not really hard to figure out. Most games have a slower load on the first start-up compared to later in the game.
If you mean subsequent loads into the Mourning Star, it’s because much of this data isn’t cached to prevent memory leaking or reduced performance for long playsessions. But there is a mod you can use where it caches all the data and has faster load in times on subsequent loads into the Mourning Star. You will love this.
As always with all mods: Use at your own risk.
Edit: Accidental necro. Just saw this thread got suggested and didn’t look at the date. OOF. Well whoever still has issues with it, the mod works wonders.
There’s a network compnent to it as well, since the slow load can still happen after loading the Mourningstar at least once in a session.
on amd cards asset loading blocks main thread. yes, its single threaded! on linux this does not happen and game loads much faster. (nvidia is not affected by this)
bug report for this is from march… multiple ppl commented with the same problem. 0 response except the acknowledged tag
… how hard can it be?
of course that is just one of many issues, you could imagine that there is 10 other issues like this, all contributing to slow game loading
