OMG - At last, a beacon of truth in this forum! I’ve almost given up hope but this restores my faith in the presence of skilled players!
Don’t forget that FnP is currently bugged, it’s probably going to feel a bit better once it doesn’t lose stacks on block.
My current loadouts include a Mk4 knife (on my gunlugger), a Mk3 club, and two shields (one on an offensive build, second on a loyal protector build), and they’re all equally viable. I had been a shovel main since launch, and while both the Mk5 and Mk19 are great weapons, my new club seems to do almost everything better (other than one-shotting Crushers).
While I agree that the best “crowd control” is death, Loyal Protector with Valuable Distraction makes everything melt and is a lot more than just “red heads”.
As an aside, I don’t see the supposed “nerf” of Skullcrusher. I haven’t personally noticed any change on any of my builds, and everyone outside of this forum (including the creator of the Ogrynomicon) are saying this is how it’s always worked.
…
Sorry but what? This isn’t at all true. For one the shield is all about heavy attacks mixed with push attacks, not lights, and it does incredible dmg. Besides that Cleaver IV, Club IIIb, shovels etc. are fantastically strong. And the Feel no Pain change (change, not just nerf) made it stronger if you use it right and don’t get hit all the time. I was actually pleasantly surprised by it on my tank build.
It sounds to me like you don’t really know how to use the shield or the other weapons, no offense:
Shield
Heavy 1 does ~2x more dmg & stagger than heavy 2 and is perfect for cleaving headshots. Shield overall does massive stagger and has a fantastic push & push attack. Between its heavies and stagger it has great many synergies with talents for bleed, faster CD’s, taunts etc.
A shield with Skullcrusher & Brutal Momentum is incredibly strong. Heavy 1 > block cancel > repeat on weakspots easily deals with small groups of anything including oggies. Just spamming heavies in general is faster and better for larger groups and kills them very quickly between the bleeds and heavy 1 headshots. Push attacks are amazing for picking priorities while controlling the crowd, all while proccing Skullcrusher on top of the many stagger dependant talents on that same attack (since just heavy 1 often kills instead of staggers). Or you can mix heavy 1 > push attack > repeat for both fast high dmg and a lot of control at the cost of stamina. Ofc not forgetting to block the ranged to taunt them, spamming push on everything to keep aggro and supercharge your ult CD’s, or briefly tapping special whenever a mauler/crusher overhead or a sniper shot is coming in. And ofc, while this might be obvious it’s always worth mentioning that the special blocks melee from 360 degrees around you and only needs the right direction against ranged.
Cleaver IV
Extremely strong & fast weapon that needs no talent investment at all to shine. Push attack > heavy > repeat or iirc heavy 1 > light 2 > repeat (for no stamina) are amazing for horde clear. Light spam, or light 1 > light 2 > heavy 2 does really good single target burst dps on weakspots even against armor. With for example Confident Strike / Momentum & Slaughterer, you need no talents for toughness regen while doing very respectable dmg very quickly and safely, making it ideal for ranged builds for example.
Club IIIb
Put Thrust & Haymaker on this on a heavy talent build and all you have to do is spam heavy attacks and nothing else. It’s probably the easiest, strongest and most boring melee weapon in the game. The only change of pace comes from loading Thrust on your leading attack or against biggies.
Those are just some examples.
Here you go pal, read up. That’s enough L takes for now.
humbly thanking you sah !
How do you even respond to post like this? I can only asssume this is a cry for help?
I never played with a shield. Cleaver Mk IV, Bully Club Mk II and 3b (I just don’t like Mk I as its silly strong vs elites), the OG shovel and you are set.
You can tweak ogryn to get 200 toughness and 400 HP. It has the highest damage resistance in the game next to zealot, even if that is dependant on bleed and No Pain stacks. The highest level of toughness regen in melee in the game as long as you hit enemies and at range toughness regend combined with enough DR to just take fire from an elite gunner and not loose toughness. Show me another class which can do it. You can still waltz into melee with a gunlugger and just continue blasting with little care for damage, unless you just do something really brainless.
Is ogryn unwieldy, and slow (unless you run knives)? Yes, but design. Is it more vulnerable to disablers than the zealot class? Sure, you gotta love Ogryn’s tiny dodges. Is it weak, or unable to put out damage? No, as long as you know what you are doing. I just want his weapons to be more interesting to use, with good attack combos.
A game from yesterday? maybe a day before, in which I just played like a brainless gunlugger with the “bad” stubber first time in months. I dont really play gunlugger, for reasons which would blow the OPs mind apparently.
Fr, the ammount of ogryns that think aggroing everything then locking down the shield for their winter hibernation is helpful is mindblowing. Put a shovel/club on and remove the enemies completly in the same amount of time.
Least competent Ogryn.
Jokes aside, thanks for writing this, now I don’t have to. Please proceed and have a nice day.
Got disabled like 4 times that game. Funny things happen when you faceplant a netter and dogs.
Jokes aside.
There are certain issues you cannot jump over with different careers and getting used to playing a different class. There is also a matter of people playing Dartkide on below average PCs. Fatshark has shown little evidence they care about optimilisation, it was all about graphics.
Maybe we need a “Sensible Builds” section on the forum and a “Coach a newbie” initiative?
It would definitely help a lot to alleviate some of the more glaring nerf/buff XY posts, but then again, how do you decide which build is sensible? A lot people have a lot of very bad takes in the forums.
This is something a lot of people can’t accept and want their ‘main’ career to be able to do everything. Ogryn is slow and bad at dodging disablers (and vaulting hip high rails). Zealot isn’t as strong ranged as other characters. Psyker is a glass cannon in exchange for massive burst dps, just like vet albeit at a different flavor.
Gotta accept those shortcomings and build/work around them. That’s what makes each class fun and unique imo
Just something fairly simple and conservative, easy to play, so people don’t take some weird builds and expect to succeed just because someone makes it work.
My psyker build section in-game is full of silly Deimos, OG revolver builds with stuff like Blazing Spirit and Empowered BB atm, no staves anywhere. I really don’t want people have an impression that charging with a psyker into melee IS the way the game expects you to play this class
Kek that’s exactly how I play mine on auric mael. Either zoom zoom melee poker with bb for special sniping or lead pissing gunker with assail. It’s insanely fun but highly brittle. It’s maximum damage with 0 defense. You basically instadie if you f up just once. I wouldn’t recommend anyone playing that way, but my god is it fun and fast when it gets going.
The below match was yesterday or the day before:
What is with the string of absolutely gutless OPs that come in with some universally hated take and then just slink away quietly.
Refusing to engage with other people’s opinions is why your take is so bad in the first place @Mr.Nixon
If you don’t feel confident to argue your own case at least try to learn some things about how to play Ogryn better while you’re here.
Agree ! Sah !
My ripper and my bonk stick can confirm Ogryn is doing just fine. Although I’d like to pick up more than just rocks…
sorry sah, cant hear you over big boooom, ears still ringing, but heretics are flying good
Out of curiosity, what’s everyones favourite ogryn melee and ranged? I think mine are the krouk (the pointy one) and the Kickback. A shame the Kickback is so ineffective against armour but it’s damn fun exploding everything else into red mist.
If i need a safe option i go
- shield: 25% flak/maniac skullcrusher/bromentum
- kickback: 25% flak/maniac full bore/run&gun
interestingly enough i dont get a better mileage from
the pinpoint since i’m too impatient and rather go fast.
if i want a solid mix of speed&bonk i’m having good results with the bully I, again 25% flak/maniac haymaker/thrust
kickback stays the same.
