Im in at just 109 hours and don’t see myself stopping to play darktide anytime soon.
There are still many weapons I haven’t tried and especially with randoms or weaker premates the game is still very difficult.
As long as the game offers a challenge and I havent played with every weapon to much already I will keep playing.
So far I haven’t even touched the crafting system at all and maybe thats a good thing.
I don’t.
I’m trying to come back to this game after a 6-week hiatus. I just open the game, go over my loadout, select a Damnation mission, and then, inevitably, after 10 min of gameplay, I think "This game f*ckin’ sucks.‘’ and I alt-F4 and go do something else.
This is coming from someone with over 1000 hours in VT2, and 300 hours in DT with 4 level-30 characters.
If I’m playing Zealot or Ogryn I usually manage to finish a mission because I’m a big melee guy.
If I’m playing Psyker I throw in the towel after 10 min because I can’t kill gunners for sh!t and I HATE resorting to BrainBurst and I HATE having to just wait for people with guns to take care of them. Otherwise it’s just free HP damage for every damn gunner encounter.
I HATE HATE HATE that entire aspects of this game are just sh!t unless you’re playing Veteran or Zealot with a Headhunter gun.
Yeah, like I said, if you ignore the side systems and only engage with the main gameplay loop, then it’s pretty fun. But the crafting and progression systems actively harm the player experience.
Because the core gameplay is mostly fun and well-made, because I like the setting and because I have slight anger issue and massacring pixel heretics offers a degree of catharsis. Also because I have w few friends to play with.
Well, I have 240 hours or so, and most of that’s on psyker. So I still have other classes to finish leveling up, penances to do, etc.
I do want to get full sets of decent items on each character with preferred blessings. I don’t mind the “blessing hunt” on its own, but when combined with the RNG of needing to get at least one preferred blessing on your target weapon is a real PitA. I really want locks removed or some way to work around them.
That said, I keep playing mostly because of the core combat experience and to try out different weapon and feat combos (to extent you can given RNG).
I am starting to get weary of running the same maps over and over at this point. Some new content in terms of missions and map layouts is desperately needed IMHO. Given I play damnation most of the time, I also want more map options from the mission terminal to keep things fresher.
I really don’t invest myself at all in ‘builds’ though I am totally not against people playing the game to that end if they want. I notice that’s a huge source of frustration right there and I agree with it looking at the current systems. Myself in VT2 when I ran a RV dwarf crossbow build in legend that could OHK every special + SV on a bodyshot besides the 2 fat wizards and goat bannnerman the gameplay was really cheapened for me.
But if people like to max and build that, and the game’s actual mechanics allow for that, then it should be a thing and accessible.
As for the game I love the survival co op genre. I’m a big action junkie and Fat Shark is pretty ahead of the curve in terms of delivering engaging gameplay systems you’ll spend hundreds of hours perfecting your ‘don’t get hit’ craft to the point of wizardry. Its fun. That’s also why my main complaint with the game is that it is woefully unfinished in terms of content. I want more so desperately, they brought Tertium to life so well but it still feels like we’re stuck in the waiting room. Because we actually are.
- Psyker’s chat in official Discord
- WH40k game that is not complete trash
- Missions are extremely fun (everything outside missions warrants lifetime ban from making games)
P.S. 1100+ missions and 680 hours in.
I enjoy the game play. I like the classes and the challenge of playing each one to it’s strengths.
Example: I meant to play two matches as it was 10pm. I ended up playing until 4am because, as I stated, I love the game.
As far as play time, I leveled four classes to 30 on Xbox live, then purchased the Imperial Edition on steam and have leveled another set to 30. Now I’m just enjoying the destruction of heretics by my hands
I am at 385 hours played currently on steam and I will probably continue playing DarkTide at least until Diablo IV releases, but will I continue playing DarkTide after the release of Diablo?
Probably not to be honest…
I reckon that FatShark is probably working hard on the game and they will eventually deliver updates to both the game and MTX store, but my remaining interest in this game is already fairly low after almost 400 hours.
There is still fun to be had in joining in on some daily QuickPlay matches and shoot up heretics and I am still trying to get Power Cycler on my Veteran, but I just can’t see any long time future investment to this game for me.
I would be glad to be wrong about there being no future to DarkTide, but for me, FatShark are developing DarkTide too slow to make something out of this “live service” game.
Some say that you need to give FatShark games 1-2 years until they become “playable”, but in 1-2 years I can say with definite certainty that I will not be playing DarkTide anymore.
There are just too many issues with the game (everything wrong with the game have already been said to ad naseum) for me to continue investing time into DarkTide after June.
Just looking at the leaked cosmetics for the classes is another can of worms because it highlights the sheer laziness of FatShark. Every single piece of those cosmetics are just a “recolor” of another piece of clothing.
Take this current example for Psyker; the pants from the Gennery Vos set is just a recolor of other Psyker pants in the game.
It just shows laziness, cutting cornerns and doesn’t give me any hope for future content to be held to any standard.
I play primarily because it’s a great shooter in the 40k universe. Mag-dumping the bolter just doesn’t get old. Monkey brain enjoy.
Honestly I’m playing less and less as the months go by. Stockholm syndrome would almost be the realistic diagnosis for me why I still now and then open the game for few rounds.
I still think this game is salvageable because the core gameplay like in vermintide2 is solid. I’m just hoping that fatshrk devs would actually spend few more minutes playing the game or listening to the actual feedback so we can get rid of these bull*hit mechanics surrounding that core gameplay.
But honestly I don’t have any solid answer as to why I still keep torturing myself. Maybe I hope to find that random T5 game that would still bring me some resemblance of challenge/fun? Maybe I hope to finally hit that RNG jackpot on the weapon I want?
Like it feels like I’m digging for gold and after I have it I can only keep it for a short amount of time before RNG police decides I’m having too much fun or something.
It’s a good non strategy (I love strategy games but there needs to be more variety) 40k Warhammer game gameplay wise, and the gore and melee combat is great. If this game didn’t have the 40k skin the only thing going for it in my opinion would be the gore which I don’t think would be enough for the current state of it atm.
They ruin the flow of the run because every single time the warning noise goes off (what, 6-7 times a mission?) the entire team just stops dead and spams attacks for the 20-30 seconds that it takes for the waves to stop coming.
Nobody wants to risk fighting them while there’s any kind of other fight going on, so the entire rest of the run just stops for the next 30 seconds.
It isn’t fun, and I guarantee it isn’t what the devs imagined when they were designing them. I really should start recording them and make a montage video of people spamming light attacks on closed doors or into empty space while dogs fall into them from ledges while “X killed a pox hound” messages stream in.
And then there’s the chain CC that they cause even if they don’t hit you, because that’s always fun.
The only thing they actually do to improve the game is cause people to regroup when the noise goes off. Seriously just an anti-fun enemy.
It’s subjective. I think it’s an amazing mode. With that said… I’m not sure if this is a server issue tied into not being able to choose missions… but it’s a bit tiring that it’s always the same modifiers on all maps, hounds or no.
As for stopping and spamming attacks… we do that all the time with various sorts of enemies, not just the dogs, which also includes just spamming attacks into monster closets or killing stuff dropping down from ledges.
To each their own. I’d prefer if you could choose your missions so that you wouldn’t have to deal with this mode if you don’t enjoy it.
FS has done an amazing job at reducing this kind of thing in DT. It was pretty constant in V2 and it wasn’t engaging gameplay, to put it mildly.
Adding more of it, especially like this where the dog waves seem to never stop coming, is not a step in the right direction.
I’ve accepted the good with the bad. The good is the gameplay, as it always has been. I’ll keep playing because the gameplay keeps me entertained. When its no longer entertaining, I’ll look elsewhere. The bad… Well, as most people can guess, its crafting, the cosmetic shop, RNG in general. Mind you, I am still working my way up from low intensity damnation, so I still have places to reach for.
I don’t really. I play when my friends have decided to because I like to play games with them. Mission to mission is fun enough.
I don’t interface at all with the crafting or itemization because of reasons I’ve been complaining about for the last 6 months (Since the 2nd closed beta).
I keep playing because i haven’t god rolled perfect items yet. Damnation is easy for me and my friends so the challenge factor has pretty much been conquered for me. Hi intensity shock gauntlet is a fun mod though if you want a real challenge. And i guess stock piling crafting materials for when actual content comes out and i want to craft the new weapons.
I like the challenge of it. Well, Darktide still lacks a bit in that department, but it’s what kept me going in Vermintide 2 and I’m sure FatShark will get it right eventually.
I took about a years break from Vermintide 2, because I felt the game lacked content. Then the Chaos Wastes released and I really liked that and the new map they released.
FatShark rarely get it right the first time, but they eventually get around to listening to what their players want. If you’re burned out just take a break and wait for new content.
Part of what gets me coming back is working towards a build, and having a pretty good time playing in the meantime. I usually have a few different visions for how I’d like to try playing each class, so even if one project is stalled by RNG or resources, I usually have another to try out or pursue instead.
For example, while I was playing around with a Recon Lasgun build for SS, and a Purgatus build for my Psyker, I was also looking for good rolls and blessings for a Graia Braced Autogun, specifically Stripped Down and sprint efficiency – so I could run around as fast and as often as possible, basically. I do have to settle for less sometimes, of course; I would’ve preferred Hit & Run instead of Deathspitter, for instance. But usually I can get close enough that I’m satisfied.
