Agreed. It’s about as annoying as having loot confetti in other rpg games. We should just be awarded plasteel and diamantine as a reward for taking care of objectives and monsters. That and a way to track down the other mcguffins, eg tomes and grims, without running around like chickens with our heads cut off every couple minutes looking for them.
The bigger issue is the complete lack of tertiary items. There’s no potion and only a marginal grenade equivalent in the game. It still bothers me there’s no ‘potions’ (stims or whatever). Really the only reason to loot is for a medipack or two, maybe an ammo box, and for crafting materials. Once you have a medipack and an ammo box you’re probably set, everything after that is gravy.
In Vermintide I’d look around for goodies that help complete the run or to find your preferred consumable pickup (EG: A cooldown potion instead of a speed potion or some such). In Darktide you scrounge around like a hobo that broke into somebody’s house trying to find a quarter inside their couch so you might have a chance at upgrading your shopping cart.
If the box spawns empty, have it be open from the start!
That way we don’t go out of our way to check.
It’s also insulting when some items are out of boxes lying around.
It would have been much more immersive to see a dead patrol with items sprawled around or a dead ogryn holding a medkit, forcing you to pry it from his hands.
