ME want to sooo hit actualy big thingz with absolutely kinda biger thingz, dat dog lokz like a gud weapon me want to smash it basicly over bad ogwyn
Fun idea for sure.
Would be pretty challenging to have it look right in a 3D game, but I play a lot of Space Station 13 where:
- you can pick up bodies (alive or dead) which takes about 6 total seconds. This makes it impossible to do in the heat of combat unless you’re being covered by allies.
- you can then hurl those bodies a moderate distance as a ranged weapon of sorts
- against humans it’ll knock them down and hard stun them for like 2-3 seconds, doing light damage
- that’s enough time in SS13 to then run up and do some pretty serious damage to the person you stunned (or use a stun baton to stun them further, or do a bunch of other nasty things to them as the situation requires)
DT plays differently, so you can actually have a thrown corpse be a little more lethal than that, but I think it’s just the complication of making the “pickup” animation feel right and making the throw/swing animation not look like Pure Gaming-Ragdoll Nonsense (and we all know what the looks like with weird vibrating limbs and such).
I mean arguably you could do canned animations without too much trouble (the Hound becomes a “weapon” and they already have the 3D model/mesh, they just need to animate its swings), but this version weirdly commits them to doing a distinct new weapon for basically every human-sized enemy they ever create, which well…is a lot of work for a fairly minimal payoff. So a very fun idea, but too expensive for the fun added I think.
I’m not a game programmer but my thoughts were click on a dead body (ragdoll) and the weapon is just like you switch weapons and the only animation is the one that u get with any other melee weapon… but what makes this unique is you can pick up a rager or a ogryn leg or mauler torso to give different properties based off a typical ogryn rage attack… but what might also be interesting is an inherent weakness that means u can only use it for so long… or the type of weapon depends on a spawned in corpse (like we see dead ogryns on the battle field or guaranteed monsters (slug, host, ogryn which drop a weapon!? on death)… or even terrain like barriers covered in barbed wire, re-bar so potentially you could change what weapon an ogryn uses mid map (not the players choice)…
I do like games where you can go “Have you ever been so mad that you killed a motherf_cker with another motherf_cker?”
